RGT Nostalgia Society #2 - Vagrant Story

I believe your magic is effected by your current weapon's affinity and damage type, but not your class bonus.

So basically if you use a weapon with a high light affinity your soul spell will do more damage, but you also need to account for the whole blunt/piercing/slashing thing (I think. The way damage works in the game is a mind fuck)
Does there happen to be a guaranteed silver slash part prespecced with high light affinity and evil/undead/phantom class levels just like the dagger and staff?

That's all correct, and figured that out hard way >_<. I suddenly did tons of damage and then realized it was from rapier O_o I guess I feel dumb because it is right there in the pages

But why isn't affinity and type (which are most important) the first two pages? Why is class first?
I like to think of Ashley's "clothes" as "Butt Furniture"
A leotard with chaps IS a pretty bold fashion statement. But he's got a nice butt, he should show it off.

The other main character also shows a wonderful amount of skin, although you're well aware if you've come this far.

that's standard fashion amongst ivalice protagonists for whatever reason

I *think* they're meant to be equally weighted, but in practice the game favors attacking weaknesses. Like, Class is the most easily trained, and does improve your damage, but the enemy isn't really *weak* to their Class. So, while it does help, using spells and gems you get later to boost elemental Affinity on the most effective weapon Type will always be the best way to kill bosses.

I guess you could think of training Class rating as the equivalent of you leveling up and doing slightly more damage over time. Your actual strength will go up just a point or two every now and then, and weapon upgrades don't happen quickly either.

Basically Class is higher damage to enemies you can actually hurt, while Affinity and Type are what let you get past their defense in the first place.

The early game is the toughest part, with so few options for the player to use. Once you begin to get buffs/debuffs, and chain attacks like Raging Ache - which deals damage based on your current HP instead of enemy defense - you can start forcing wins and cutting down on the grind.

Once you're past an early-game forest area, things will *really* open up in terms of equipment and spells.

woohoo! just made it to first workshop.

Note: The listed materials are only for fusing blades and armor into new pieces, afaik. You can always attach blades to more suitable handles in the workshop even if the material isn't considered workable, I think. Do save before taking my advice though.

::omgdoom Just when I didn't think this fucking game could get more complicated... I'm just going to assume grips are just for more gems, if they are meant to be combined for other boosts, I don't care.

Really? Now I have to spend time to rename every new weapon I make?! What were they thinking >_<

Well, cross guard had a gem slot, so I put the fandango blade on it for now with braveheart gem.

Different grips have different amounts of gem slots and different modifiers for each damage type. Because each blade deals one damage type, weapons perform better if the handle modifier for that specific damage type is higher. Don't worry. You can read this info in one of the weapon's or part's pages while menuing.

Not that I'm aware of. Your best bet after a certain point is probably just finding a silver weapon, boosting its light affinity with the affinity dummy, then using class dummies to raise the other two.

I can have a look through my drops at some point today and see if I have anything that's good for this by default and then figure out where I got it haha

Alright, now that I know how to kill the fucking ghosts and understand more mechanics, it is going more smooth. Got my pink squirrel ready for golem

after the next boss after golem I think, you'll be able to analyze enemies with magic so you know the exact defensive modifiers each part has against each element and damage type
spell does not always have a success chance though

Unfortunately, had to rename ">_<" to "SWORD" so I can keep track of all this shit...

Maybe later I'll give meme/emojis to all my weapons, but I need names I can remember what they do right now ::sadkirby

Is knife descriptive enough? The silver scramasax or whatever it's called blade is specifically a pierce weapon if I recall, while one normally associates knives with cutting?

It was pretty cool getting outside for a little bit.

If it eases you at all, there's very little pressure to finish within the month. The only issue is that your nostalgia society games may get backlogged and some people may move on without you.

Thanks for the vote of confidence @KaiserMk7 ::sadkirby But I think I can get it done, I'm trying really hard!

If it's any consolation, I'm unlikely to finish it "in time", and I've been bouncing between distractions, playing other things, and an impasse of having just unlocked teleportation but thinking I accidentally threw away something I can't replace earlier for a probably a couple of weeks now.

Yeah, I'll happy if I can finish it by christmas 😅

Okay, I'm starting the snowfly forest and I'm at 12 hours in game. Is that a good pace? I feel things are going faster. idk, kind of worried because guide I'm following says the crab shouldn't have been too bad, but it killed me three times.

A problem I am having is I suck at the defensive chains, triggering them by accident, so the wards/impact guard are useless for me ::sadkirby So my only option is to run in, tank hits, and when I get close to death: fire off repeated ~10 hit chains (that is about what I can do consistently) with raging ache and then pray I kill the boss first which is how I beat the damn crab.

assuming you stop playing and simply watch the youtube video 'vagrant story: the movie,' it is the perfect pace.

i actually don't know tbh. i feel like vagrant story can be anywhere between 10-20 hours on a first playthrough.

Best intro to any game tbh. The way the music progresses with what you do & advance the dialogue was brilliant. That whole sequence is unforgettable and I replay that part every year.

Now I need to actually finish the game. LOL. It's on my bucket list... I got pretty far, but never completed it.

Honestly, the music isn't blowing me away; probably my fault for getting hyped from other posts online, but I don't think it is that memorable... I like the workshop music (director made a good choice to make sure that was good since you spend so much fucking time menuing in the workshops >_<) and overall it is good, but idk, maybe I'm just not a fan of more ambient music direction... To be fair, I don't like classical music. Maybe that is the problem?
