I can't get one successful chain attack, always too fast or slow ::sadkirby wtf do they want me to do? Can you beat the game without using chain attacks? I might have to give up now if so...

omg, traps are pissing me off. They want me to remember where this bullshit is? Did they not think this game was frustrating enough?

The chain attack timing is a bit funky but I recommend you stick with it as it makes the game significantly easier. Once you get the timing down it will be almost automatic.

They want you to press the button precisely as the hit lands, immediately before the number or status change indicator pops up. The window is generous-ish. Same for defensive abilities, except exactly when you get hit. Timing varies based on weapon and your current attack. You can practice on one of the dummies I guess. You're really going to want to learn the timing to keep your resources topped up and apply status ailments to uncomfortably tanky fodder and bosses.

::sadkirby I didn't know this was a dexterity/timing type game, idk why but that's difficult for me. Legend of dragoon (which drove me nuts) at least had the reticle helpers for timing. Finally got the defensive ones to trigger a few times, so I guess that is improvement ^_^

idk, I guess my brain can't process/time inputs like this? I'm a beast on a ddr dance pad, but this is kicking my ass ::sadkirby

This has, at best, an exclamation point to assist with timing if you have the setting enabled. That only shows up during the window though. You have nothing to guide you to preempt your inputs except your own memory and intuition based on the attack animations.

If its any consolation I suck at the timing too. All I can recommend is a bit of practise and using the exclamation point over Ashley's head to help with timing.

It gets even worse when you've got to try and remember the timing on like 4 different weapons all with their own variations of your chain abilities -_-

You can definitely beat the game without chaining attacks. I can't chain for shit lol and I can make it through. If you can do one or two you're golden, my best combo is 6 I think and it was just luck.

There's an item you get from some early mobs and chests that reveals all the traps in the room you're in. If you can remember a trap is in a room just use the item and see where they are, or just farm (I think) the early bats for the item and just pop one every room. You got this

I have managed to get my ass lost.

I just beat the air elemtal and I don't have a key for the door behind it -_- time to wander the city I guess

Which area? And what key would that be?
I'm in the limestone quarry where I just killed the air guy. The key I need is the Aster Sigil but I also have the Clematis Sigil as well and no idea about how to get to City Walls North anymore the use it.

As soon as the map opened up more I got confused ::nervous-prinny

Limestone Quarry? The air elemental boss at the start of Abandoned Mines B2, or an area I haven't been to yet?

First Parasite Eve, now Vagrant Story...You are systematically going through my all-time faves that I like to replay periodically. This game is an absolute Matsuno masterpiece. Fuck the Snowfly forest though lol.

I really like how the map tells you where to use what keys because I have awful sense of direction and memory >_< This is gonna help me out a lot ^_^

This game and Valkyrie Profile have the absolute best map viewers. Weird niche system but really helps when you have complex multi-level map that require backtracking, platforming, and searching every room (similar to Metroid).

Two points.
Snowfly Forest has a map, and any exit that appears to connect directly to another room takes you exactly where you would expect it to take you.

How would you say the Metroid Prime map viewer compares to this game's?

Haha yeah, I know, I just really hated that map when I first played.

I somehow forgot about the Metroid Prime map viewer but yeah, I think it's similar and also really good. More comparable to VS than VP since VP was just 2D as well...VS wins for me because of the ridiculous room names they gave every room though lol.

Oh. Metroid prime also names rooms, but not quite like VS. If you want more ridiculous room names in your life, I might recommend You Have to Win the Game. It is a completely different kind of game though.

That's another frustration I have, you are supposed to remember what you assigned to each button O_o And in the heat of the moment know which one to fire off? This is brutal.
If you can do one or two you're golden
Can't even do that >_<

Oh, it's not like a major problem. They just piss me off because it seems they are just there to annoy you. It just makes me stop and heal after clearing a room (because it seems they put most right in front of doors). What's the point? It's stupid design in a game where your health and magic regenerate, all it does is slow me down and waste my time. Is there instant death ones or something?

Its certainly near Abandoned Mines B2 lol
I'm just gonna keep running around until I find it.

I'm going to look at the maps. In the meantime, does a section with a 2 minute and 30 second timer sound familiar to you?

Yeah I already did that part. I was completely freaked out when the timer didn't go away after the first section.

This game feels very From Software.

That's a good call. I wouldn't be surprised if King's Field was an inspiration for this game. It is more likely that Diablo was a heavy inspiration, since this was the time of Diablo clones proliferating the market. But the difficulty level feels more like an old school dungeon crawler than diablo.

Yeah the difficulty level and complexity level make it feel like a CRPG of the era frankly.

I've still not found what I'm doing, but I'm pretty convinced I'm trying to head for the north walls area. Gonna keep checking out maps/guides online till I figure out where I've got mixed up.

Also can we get a mod to sticky the thread and remove the first month from the sticky board?

Two stupid questions. Do you have teleportation? If not, what's your most recent boss?

...oh. my. god.

I completely forgot that I had teleportation unlocked. Like, literally, I got that a little bit ago, and I was gonna try it out next time I got to a magic circle but got distracted by dungeon crawling and forgot I could even do it.

Thanks for the reminder. ::peacemario

to be fair, the boss that unlocks teleportation doesn't seem reasonably close to a magic circle
