Me too. I personally had so much more fun with vhs than dvds.
VHS felt raw and unedited

Kind of sad that the top two promotions had pay per views today and I didn't feel compelled to buy either one of them. Did anything cool happen? I imagine Iyo Sky vs Stephanie Vaquer was probably really good but I'm not getting a WWE show just to watch one match. I love Iyo but I hope Stephanie won the belt. Feels like it's her time.

On the AEW side of things nothing about All Out seemed all that compelling. I'm a huge Hangman fan but I find Kyle Fletcher boring and I'm kind of sick of the whole Don Callis family thing. AEW focuses too much on factions. The Don Callis family thing is stale. The Deathriders are stale. I also don't find the women's title situation or TBS title situation all that exciting. The AEW women's division has been bland and boring for at least a year now. I'm not into Statlander, Toni Storm, or Mercedes Mone. Statlander's booking and creative have just been weird throughout her entire AEW run. Toni Storm's gimmick is cringe and Mercedes having fifty billion titles is annoying. The division needs new blood.

Speaking of Men’s wrestling, I took a small break from that to indulge in Joshi a bit, AKA idol wrestlers. It’s a fun niche.
If you are willing to go back a bit in time, the AJW stuff from the mid-80s into the late 90s is pretty great stuff. Sometimes a little weapon-heavy at times, but sometimes even that is fun. Bull and Aja battling and their crazy cage stuff. Akira Hokuto v Manami Toyota might still be the best women's match ever, but it's a different thing now so I could see people not agreeing nowadays. But there's lots of fun stuff. Devil Masami was still powerbombing people back then, good times.

Waoh, those are interesting recs. I’ll give ‘em a shot, thanks!

Eh, I think modern wrestling just isn't that fun to watch or talk about. Or at least, I don't really get much fun out of it anymore. I couldn't tell you who is doing what in either AEW or WWE at the moment because I haven't kept up for a little while now ::cirnoshrug

True yeah
I think we all owe it ourselves to binge old school njpw
That’s probably when wrestling peaked imo

But I've already seen Great Khali's run in NJPW :loldog

Here's another incoming rant, feel free to ignore it LOL

What annoys me is the sense that AEW and WWE are just set in their ways. As long as they have a core fanbase who pore enough money into both companies to keep them afloat, they will never try to change or improve in any way. Both companies are just coasting right now. They're not putting any real effort into anything. The talent are busting their asses, but people at the top like Triple H and Tony Kahn don't care and are putting the bare minimum amount of effort into everything that they do. And as is the case with everything in entertainment today, the problems are always at the top. Things have gotten worse in WWE since the TKO merger as the company just gets more and more corporate feeling every day. And while many people hated Vince McMahon, he at least had some unpredictability. Triple H's booking is so predictable it's ridiculous. I actually miss the crazy old man known as Vince McMahon.

Tony Kahn's not much better. His booking in AEW is stale as shit. His women's division has been dominated by two women for what feels like an eternity now in Mercedes Monet and Toni Storm. Toni Storm has been doing a jobber, joke gimmick and yet AEW made her their top woman. And on the other side is Mercedes with the TBS title who has had possibly the worst run of her entire pro wrestling career since arriving in AEW. And Tony Kahn just now put the women's title on Kris Statlander, who is an absolute nobody.

I miss DMD and Shida. Britt Baker is where AEW's women's division peaked and Shida was like the best joshi they had.

I haven't actively followed WWE since probably Cody losing to Cena at a PPV a couple of months ago because it felt like bullshit. Still love the sport though. Grew up with Ruthless Aggression era Smackdown and the chaotic madness that is Kaiju Big Battel
Got very heavily into 90s ECW in my 20s

Wrestlesnooza netflix is cancelled after last night only have a few days left anyway.

I can't speak to AEW as I haven't seen a ton of it, but I'm with you on the WWE merger. At some point the focus of the presentation shifted from "oh my god HHH attacked Randy Orton in his home" to "look at how much money we make. Did you know we made a lot of money? We made a lot of money" and the advertising on the ring and stuff is just ridiculous. I don't watch outside of the occasional clip, but there was a thing a little while back where Cena sat on the turnbuckle and aped Punk's pipebomb promo after putting Punk through a table; it was done in such a way that while Punk laid there selling for like 11 minutes (was he dead?), the angle was set so you could see SLIM JIM on the table the whole time. It feels lazy and forced and didn't make me want to buy a slim jim. Why would I want to eat a thing that's gonna make me feel like a guy who laid there dead for an hour?

It's such a weird time where there's more content than ever if you want it, but I just don't see anything to hook me. But that's okay. There's enough old content that I haven't seen, along with revisiting stuff I have seen, that I could do that for years instead.

Funny how this particular year was the catalyst for everything wrong with wwe today, like over reliance on mid carders (while somehow mis-managing them)

TNA has the best womens division right now and pairing up with NXT makes them stronger.

I can barely stick watching smackdown and it used to be my favourite at weekends

I did try watching Wrestlemania this year, but the advertising killed it for me. I turned off after the first 3 matches.
Every match seemed to have its own sponsor, and it sucks that a video game, the newest Fatal Fury, was the main sponsor of the show. Now I never want to hear about it again with how many times they plugged it in like an hour.
It's ridiculous. At that point, the wrestling doesn't matter anymore.

This past Smackdown had several, long backstage segments revolving around R Truth explaining to other wrestlers how to watch the upcoming pay per view as if they were all 5 year olds. This is what they spend TV time on.

I seen that one because TKO thinks the audience are 5 year olds lol

I'd say the OSW (Old School Wrestling) podcast is my favourite wrestling thing on YouTube. They mostly have fun talking about the Simpsons & Alan Partridge, but they do sometimes talk about the wrestling shows they cover as well :loldog
They mostly do older wrestling shows, but they sometimes cover more modern shows. They did Mania 40 last year and I think they said they're going to do Mania 41 soon.

Insanely good recs here. I also second cornette. One time I got stuck at an airport and listening to him helped me relax. True story.

Im watching no mercy 2000 right now netflix in the uk has some on demand but the wwe network was amazing erasing that content is a shame.
Yeah, the Network was amazing for non-WWE stuff that they owned the rights to. ECW, WCW, older territory stuff. Nowadays, it just seems to be WWE & NXT on Netflix
