Random Game Challenge!!!

I got "I Love Golf!: Out of Bounds Club"
1737499681954.png

There isn't much to say about it; Especially since I don't know how to play golf.

It was a standard golf game, lol. Wasn't fun to play, though.
Edit: It had some panels that you can hit and and holes that move the ball somewhere else.

I have played Darius before but I never played Darius gaiden on Saturn in fact I never played a Saturn game before. "some day I wish to own a Saturn when I can afford 120-140 bucks for one.

The Saturn is the only SEGA console I never owned. Big regrets there.

Sorry, Middler. I was only able to play for 30 minutes in-game time.

Pokemon - Liquid Crystal
Pokemon - Liquid Crystal (v3.3.00512)-0000.jpg

I said NO I DON'T WANNA SAVE FUUUUUUUU

Got this one at random ( second try, the first had me required a psp camera for it ( inviZimals: The Lost Tribes (Europe) PSP )

Already played it before on neo geo, time to relaunch it !

Edit After a little gameplay.

Game is really great, top down shooter, a lot of différent characters and a 3 way route to go ( lot of Replayability)

Game is really hard though ( or it's just me that sucks at top down shooters xD )

A few shot.

I've got Resident Evil 2 for Gamecube, not a very original one for most people, but I barely touched the first RE games, so it was a fresh experience.
6657_front.jpg

I mean, I technically played RE 2, but that was a demo when I was a kid, and I didn't understand the controls so I managed to get eaten in the first screen. I avoided RE games (well, not RE-4 style ones) ever since.

Well, I've got my revenge. Kind of. Still gave the zombies a tasty meal, but it was a good while after I started. I got too used to avoid fighting and try to save my bullets and too confident about saving the game, I wasn't ready for a fight in a tight room where I managed to get myself surrounded like a moron.
I don't look forward to the backtracking between item boxes I was doing before getting intense hickeys.

I'm adamant I'm gonna finish it, though, so that challenge did get me out of my comfort zone, thanks middler.

Okay lets spin the wheel for Frbrwary....Dammit. Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero

Mortal Kombat Mythologies - Sub-Zero (USA) 2025-02-07-15-26-51.png

I avoided this game when it released because it looked bad. Looks like time has proven me right. It is bad. You play as this guy:

Mortal Kombat Mythologies - Sub-Zero (USA) 2025-02-07-15-34-05.png

I will refer to him as Derpy Dan for this review-adjacent thing. Derpy Dan is a piece of lumber painted blue that the game refers to as Sub-Zero. He gets sent to china to...

Mortal Kombat Mythologies - Sub-Zero (USA) 2025-02-07-16-54-21.png

...which I am guessing is his rite of adulthood because he has no skills at all. Maybe that's why they call him sub-zero, they are referring to is fighting ability. And even when he does start getting skills (seemingly by random) they suck to use. It takes 4 buttons (one of them changes depending on what direction you are facing) to do a slide. Yes 4 buttons for a slide... don't believe me:

Mortal Kombat Mythologies - Sub-Zero (USA) 2025-02-07-15-47-52.png

The environment works against you by hiding enemies that are in attack range, making traps that can kill Derpy Dan in one hit activate only when you are directly next to them, and giving you no idea where you are supposed to go.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies - Sub-Zero (USA) 2025-02-07-16-33-45.png

I only figured out how to survive getting past the point in the pic above when I accidentally landed on the railing. If you jump down from the red landing over the railing you miss the canvas that slows your fall which, of course, kills you. It took 30 min of my hour just to figure this out.

I wish I was just hating on this game for some obvious reason like I don't like MK, but that's not true. Look at the controls:

Mortal Kombat Mythologies - Sub-Zero (USA) 2025-02-07-16-38-03.png

a. They don't tell you that UP is jump and you cant rebind it in game.
b. You can easily jump over an enemy and you WILL NOT turn around to face them unless you hit the turn button or get hit by the enemy.
c. The run button is the only way to run and it only works if you are pressing the direction you are facing when you hit the run button.

So to wrap this turd in a napkin so it can be thrown away I say only this: Do Derpy Dan a favor and don't put him through this.

Longest hour of gaming since Dragon Ball GT: Final Bout (USA).

Cant win every time.

Alright... well let's do this

1738999237968.jpeg

I Don't know what to expect, will edit after some time on it.

::goof

Well it's a homebrew, kinda special.. not as bad as i though it'll be. a simple plateformer with grimace.

Game is really short though, only 2 act of 2 levels.

And my roll for March is..... Digimon World on the PSX

akAatAR.jpg
Screenshot 2025-03-03 173759.png

In the greater universe of Mons' Digimon was never really on my radar I was aware of it but i never played any of the games physical or video, nor did i watch any of the anime. I am more of a Monster Rancher guy. Lets see how it compares.

First thing, name is limited to 6 characters :(

Screenshot 2025-03-03 174010.png

Oh, okay, HE can have 7 letters in HIS name...

At least I dont look like a claymation nightmare...

Screenshot 2025-03-03 173621.png

... well, lets play the game and see what its like. It is a isekai unsurprisingly. Pretty much the first thing that happens is you get sucked into your Digimon key-ring ala Tron and wake up surrounded by mon's.

Screenshot 2025-03-03 174532.png

After you get the low-down you go about training and battling with your own personal Digimon:

Screenshot 2025-03-03 182757.png

Its hard to go in depth because, after my hour I barely scraped the surface of what you are supposed to do. Battle is cheer based, for lack of a better way to describe it, at least at the beginning. I am betting that you can give more specific orders as you train up and bond with your mon. Otherwise its like a cross between Monster Rancher and a Tomigatchi which from what I can tell is what they are going for.

Generally speaking I got a fairly good impression, its well enough made for its time controls are a bit stiff but its not a platformer so that doesn't hinder it much. If you are into this Ip and genre and haven't played this one you are likely to enjoy it, just don't forget your meat.

We have a Random game button. The challenge is simple:
1. Press the button (located on the right in The Repository or at the bottom of the page for mobile)
2. Get the result and play it for an hour or 2 (at least)
3. Report back here with your experience.

Rules are also simple:
You may procure the version in your native language if needed (and if it exists)
You may hit the button again if it is not available in your language.
You may hit the button again if the result is not for a console you already have configured on your device.
If you do end up hitting the button again let us know what game it was and why you had to pass on it.
Remember this is for fun, no competition, no judgement, just a bit of harmless chaos to pass the time.

Happy Gaming! :)

Not very interesting though and I don't really feel like going back to it.

Good fucking God... (Sorry if this thread is too long, I wanted to be entertaining, and also because I genuinely have a lot to say about this piece of shit)

eBe9zQEGM_KGrHqRk4Ez027ORzBNQtqr2lwQ___1.jpg

So, overall, the game is shit, and feels sad to play.

In detail...

svg-bbup-250314-183735.png

First booting up the game, and starting a new game, I already wasn't impressed. The game takes the look of an isometric RPG. Essentially, we are The Bratz. I am gonna say something here that is of note; as a biological and self-identifying man, I do not care for The Bratz and thus, not well aware of them. I've only ever heard about the toy brand and the live action movie that we would put on for my little brother and sisters. Other than that, I have no fucking clue.

What I do know was that this game already showed that it was shit.

It starts out with a conversation with the "teacher" (I unironically have no fucking idea who she is) introducing the characters to the summer camp. Essentially this camp has acting, music, dancing, and fashion, basically a living stereotype of women in the 2000's (not to be a feminist, but Christ, the 2000's were an unholy time). Here, the Bratz, two boys (One is brown haired and the other is Eidan). the new girl here, and 2 other, bratty girls, chit chat and fuck off. This is where we pick our character.

svg-bbup-250314-182753.png

Now, this is where I play my first mini-game, a memory game. It was alright I suppose. I guess this was to show how the mini-games play? Well, they really aren't mini-games. They are the only part of the game
that makes this a game.

svg-bbup-250314-183132.png

After this, we go to the 2nd chapter. Yes, this game goes through chapters. The are essentially levels. And, yes, like I said, this game is a pseudo-RPG. I use that term lighter than a feather in a vacuum chamber because, really, this game uses that format more as a way to develop the story and as a hub for the games rather than be anything important.

svg-bbup-250314-183353.png

Notice how I am now Sasha. I did NOT pick her, as stated earlier. The game forced me to play as her. Never, have I ever, thought that a kids game from the Gameboy Advance would verbally tell me "fuck you" flat out in front of my face. What the actual fuck was the point? Anyways, after talking to Cloe about being late, we get to play our second mini-game.

svg-bbup-250314-183443.png

This mini-game is simple. Essentially you are running, and you jump over obstacles. Now, this is where I made several horrifying discoveries that I will get into chronologically later on in this post. For now, I thought this game was like the matching game where I could barely try and win. Wrong. Second I lost my lives, I decided "alright, time for me to play the next mini-game".

That took me back to the beginning of the game.

So, obviously, I was supposed to actually beat the game. Now, I was stupid to think that "Try Again" meant that I could simply go to the next game first time around, so obviously, I kept playing. Then I lost my lives again; however, this time the message said "Good Job". Huh? But I died? I am guessing I did it before I died? Oh well. Next chapter.

This one was just one mini-game with little story.

svg-bbup-250314-184405.png

This game was essentially Simon, you know, the toy that has the four buttons that you match what it does? Yeah, that. You (STILL) play as Sasha, and you follow what Ieris (what a stupid fucking name) does in the same rhythm. This was when I was starting to get suspicious again. As SOON as I lost my lives AGAIN, it said "Good Job". What? Okay? Other than that, the story was mid. The teachers harass the kids that they suck shit at dancing. Next chapter.

This chapter is also practically nothing, and the only important thing is the end of the chapter where Cloe, the white girl that, remind, I am not playing as still, is praised for her acting. Anyways, the game.

svg-bbup-250314-184713.png

This game tripped me up. I thought, at first, you hold L+R to keep the film rolling. There, I lose all of this "energy" in a bar and lost. Interestingly, this time it says "Try Again". No, as it turns out, you actually have to alternatively smash both L & R to keep the film rolling. Now, I noticed something; the film became impossible to keep rolling later on, and thus, I lose all of my energy and lost. However, they let me continue. Other than that, that is it.

svg-bbup-250314-185335.png

This game is essentially that one mini-game from Mario Party where you follow a line. Difference from there is that this one sucks and is boring. However, this was the part where I realized something; the level wouldn't end. It was easy, but once I finished all of the clothing, the game wouldn't stop. This was when I had a sneaking suspicion. I decided to purposefully lose all of my lives. Sure enough, in a pants shitting realization, I realized how these games work.

These games let you win, not by if you finish them, or if you do a good job, no. They let you win, once you hit a quota. Now, what is that quota, you may be asking? And to answer, I don't fucking know. They do NOT tell you the minimum to let you continue. Essentially, you have to play these baby games for an amount of time only God knows. They do have a score, but it might as well not be there. I don't remember the score ever being consistent with each game. With this realization, I continued forth to the next chapter.

svg-bbup-250314-190234.png

This chapter is essentially "hit the notes right". That is all.

As I was playing, this game felt... off. Not in the cringe "oh, liminanimal spacies" kind of way, but in a more sympathetic kind of way. The best way I can describe this feeling is by visualizing what the dev was thinking. Imagine a developer, he is at his desk helping make a game. Now, imagine this dev's dog died. Imagine the dev lost his wife. Imagine this dev has to take care of his son/daughter on his own and is stuck with little help and money. Now, you would imagine his mental state would pour into a game, correct? Imagine that this was that game. The school itself just feels sad. It's the same corridor, plastered in a somewhat square design (imagine Map07 from DOOM II). Doesn't help that the music is, at worst, generic. There are a few somewhat good tracks, but they all have that feeling of "meh". This game unironically feels just sad. I honestly feel bad for the devs. I would have donated Street Fighter 2 or Mortal Kombat cabinets to cheer them up.

Anyways, next chapter.

svg-bbup-250314-190756.png

This one was somewhat interesting than the others. The chapter starts by Koby, who was the brown haired boy I talked about all the way back in the beginning that I forgot the name of. Essentially, the new girl, whose name is Ieris, talks about dance practice a lot, and Koby convinces her to ignore that for now and throw water balloons at Eidan. In this game, you are balancing Koby while Ieris is telling you what button you press. The logic of this game makes NO fucking sense. If getting girls means balancing on one foot while doing what the girl asks, I would... well... actually, nevermind... I probably wouldn't be good at that either, especially since I got screws on my right ankle, which makes it hard for me to balance. Way to humble me, Bratz the Move the Video Game. This surprisingly isn't the first time you said "go fuck yourself", so really, what was I expecting. After this game, Koby and Ieris do, indeed, throw water ballons at Eidan, though it is never show. Great.

This next chapter establishes that the girls, who were gonna perform as a band, are deciding to do their own thing. That means... THE CHARACTER SELECT SCREEN IS BACK!!! AND YOU GET TO PLAY AS THE GIRL YOU CHOSE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE FUCKING GAME!!!!! Wow! Thank you Bratz the Move the Video Game! You really are garbage!

After this, I believe it is simply just replaying the game to get a higher grade... Oh what, I didn't tell you? Yeah, you get a grade based on how well you did on the game. Does it tell you what score you have to get to get an A? No! You gotta play the game again and do it blindly until you get the good grade!

I quit the game. Never have I EVER wanted to quit a game before. This game unironically sucks shit. Now, am I overexaggerating? Yes, but its for entertainment, so who cares! But, unironically, this game is nothing stacked up with garbage. Since I am playing an emulator with an 8BitDo M30 Pro controller, I am assuming the games don't work well, since when I KNOW I hit an input, the game sometimes doesn't. This is EXTREMELY prevalent in the Music Game, when you have 4 buttons to press on the contoller to hit the notes, and the notes are extremely close together at times. Do you see why a grade system WITHOUT a reference can be frustrating?

So yeah, sorry for the long thread, but this game sucks shit and is sad. Don't play it. Ever.

I like this idea! Since I've gotten my first retro handheld I've had such a hard choice picking from thr thousands of games I have on it, and I also got most of my library from this site!

I got... Q*bert on PSX?! I didn't even know this existed.

played it for an hour, here are my thoughts as someone who has never been really good at Q*bert in any context.
The game is fine. It's Q*bert but with 3D graphics and an "adventure mode", which is where I spent most of my time. I cleared the entire first world, which was made up of six stages, with each stage being made of four or five boards. The boards play like Q*bert. There don't appear to be any major changes here that I can notice. There is a difficulty selection, although I believe that probably only changes the speed or type of obstacles within the stage... or maybe the number of lives. I didn't experiment with the difficulty as I suck at Q*bert and could barely make it on easy. Each stage gives you a few lives to clear out all the boards, with lives restocking between stages. If you run out of lives on any board, you need to retry the entire stage. There is one major change between the gameplay of this version and the old arcade game that I can think of, this version has items Q*bert can use. The first one I found was a shield, that if you choose to use will presumably block a hit from you (I couldn't figure out how to use them until I was already on stage 1-5. You use them by pressing X on the controller btw. Don't ask me how I didn't figure that out). I also found a pair of shoes that make you move faster, and a bat which i'm presuming would hit either balls or enemies out of the way.
Adventure Mode was fine. Like I said, not really a fan of Q*bert, but I can imagine people who are fans could probably get some mileage out of it between the large number of boards given. The biggest issue I had with it was difficulty being really inconsistent. Every board in stage 1-6 was significantly easier than half the boards in stages 1-4 and 1-5. There are cute little fully 3D cutscenes at the beginning and end of each world, no idea if these are part of some "storyline" or "deep Q*bert lore" as I have no context on anything going on other than I play as the orange one and jump on blocks.

There's also an Arcade mode which is presumably just a recreation of the old arcade machine. You can choose to play with the modern 3D graphics or classic 2D sprites. I played it for a short while but never got very far.

Overall, not a bad experience. Just Q*bert but fancier and if you like Q*bert then maybe try it out. I'll upload this review to my backloggd as well if anyone likes it. Feel free to give it a like on there.

I cant wait to see what you end up with :)
Neutopia for Turbografx which led me to realize I only had the Japanese version which led me to download every English Turbografx English rom on the site😅
So I'll get back to you when I actually play the game but I'm definitely going to try it out

Okay, so I got motherfuckinggggggggggggggggggggggggg
51766_front.jpg

and I'm sorry, but I am NOT playing 10 minutes of this ineffectual pile, let alone one hour. Within just the first minute, 60 fucking seconds of the first level, I have dogshit looking graphics, fucked hitboxes where enemies hit me if I'm within a country mile while I need to be touching tips with these ugly as sin enemies. Better yet, the kick the game gives you has to be one of the most flaccid and limp-wristed attacks I have ever seen in a video game. The music? Oh baby, it makes Merzbow sound like the poppiest Beatles sounding off on some fresh hot wax. Fuck this game, but this wouldn't be fair for this challenge, so I decided to reroll.
68472_front.jpg

It's fun, I just suck

A grand idea. I'll have a whirl and edit back when I've given it a shot.

I've gotten a kiddie game, and on a gimmick system. I'm not optimistic but the challenge must be met!
1743944764397.jpeg

EDIT: OK so I've played enough. It is what it is - a simple, small game for children. You play some mini-games like throwing tomatoes at your friends (enemies?) with the goal of hitting X in Y amount of time, or run around a maze looking for pieces of a puzzle picture then find what's on the puzzle. You do this to collect 'Labels', which I don't know what are for, and after a few games the seasons move forwards and some plants in your garden progress growth. I couldn't find any way to interact with these like a Farm Sim game through watering or planting specific ones in the empty spots around the starting point.

* The graphics are kind of nice. I think the character models and environments are cute and have an appealing low-poly design.
* The music though, is noteworthy for being weird. There's just something off about it. It feels like when you listen to a popular song but it's in the Minor key rather than Major, if you know what I mean. You can hear what I'm talking about in this VIDEO specifically at ~[3:53] [5:40] and [7:33]. It's so odd.
* The controls are 99% stylus and I fucking hate that. You tap and hold to move like a phone game and you tap to do everything else including advance the text. I hate it IRL and I hate it even more on emulator.

huh, i'm not too familiar with pokemon romhacks, so i went in with no expectation and picked the color filter. i have played a few pokemon games (emerald, r/b, b/w) but never reached the halfway point in any of them, so i was wholly unfamiliar with what i explored of the unchanged map.

what's cool is that you can customize your character, start anywhere across johto and kanto (i picked lavender town), and pick from like 20 starters (i picked growlithe because i find arcanine hot). it's also a full on open world game, with the levels scaling based on how many gym badges you have.

my first course of action was to wander about aimlessly for a bit before arriving at cerulean city, then i traveled some more and caught a drowzee followed by a murkrow. i then battled sabrina and promptly found out that i should've been guessing how strong the gym leaders are by how strong the trainers are rather than how strong the wild pokemon are, i ended up completely obliterating her with my accidentally overleveled growlithe.

i'm probably gonna play more of this since this seems like a really high quality hack, maybe i'll post updates here too.

Crystal Clear used to be my go-to for Gen 2 RomHacks. I still like it a lot and recommend to people who are looking for early Pokemon Hacks with good QoL.
Nowadays I've switched to simpler Hacks that just do what I want without the extra stuff CC adds.

Basically a little arcade platformer, you have to throw bubbles and made them explode at your ennemies to grab keys to unlock the next level.

Not bad.

I got Space Invaders Japanese version for PS1

I am terrible at most arcade style games like this, played it for about 15 minutes and quit.
