Random Game Challenge!!!

I'm back again for another try.

Figures I'd get something like this lol. With how many there are it's pretty likely right?
Interesting though that this is from when SEGA still owned Visual Concepts (the developers of all the 2k sports games to current) before selling them to Take Two Interactive. Wow, I wonder if they regret that considering how much cash these must be raking in nowadays.
Outside of 99% 2k sports games Visual Concepts also developed the esteemed CLAYFIGHTER, LESTER THE UNLIKELY, and WEAPONLORD! Uh yeah... maybe better they stick to the balls huh?
I'll be back after a game. It's got good review scores so I'm optimistic. ::dkapproves

I can see why this is praised. If I was a Football fan I'd probably be very excited at the presentation of this game. It has live action ESPN SportsCenter footage, great looking models and fields, as well as realistic impacts to the tackling interactions. It looks really smooth when you slip out of a grab around your legs, or when your linemen jump over opponents sprawled on the ground. The animations are great.
I haven't played enough to know if this is really better or worse in other fields like UX, and since I only played a Quick Match I can't comment on how the Season Mode and such are but I bet they're good too.

Okay its that time again. And, the RNG gods gave me:

Lego Racers 2

15650_front.jpg
LEGO Racers 2 (U) (M2)-0.png

I had no idea there was a sequel to Lego Racers. I had played the first one on PC. I had no expectations of the GBA version being the definitive port of it but I went in fairly optimistic.

Rocker Racer, after being defeated in the first game, found a new place to reclaim glory, the planet Xalax.

And apparently its your job to earn your way there to beat him again. You do this by:
Racing-

LEGO Racers 2 (U) (M2)-10.png

Upgrading your vehicle-

LEGO Racers 2 (U) (M2)-7.png

and winning-

LEGO Racers 2 (U) (M2)-8.png

So you can collect gold bricks.

LEGO Racers 2 (U) (M2)-5.png

There isn't really anything else to it. I have a feeling that this port is very stripped back compared to the PC/PS2 versions. No car customization, just the upgrades. Building your own car was my favorite part in the first one. Controls are pretty sensitive and acceleration is hard to make sense of and toward the end of my time winning or loosing almost felt more like luck than skill.

If you are looking at playing this game maybe try the PS2 version to get the whole experience.

This sounded like fun so I took a chance on the Random Button and it blessed me with Tomb Raider Underworld for the DS
The release notes from the included nfo don't fill me with confidence, however

Todays random game was Doshin The Giant on the Gamecube

This was a really interesting game where you play a giant helping develop civilizations during 30 minute long days. Was nice to just relax and vibe with the music and slow paced game play. Highly recommend!

And what does May have in store for me?...

OH HELL YEA!

This is the first game Ive gotten that I have actually played before. Mind you its been years. Also, I don't have pics like I usually do because I was playing it on my TV via Batocera and I am still learning it so I didn't learn about the screenshot command until after. So I will make thins a short one.

I played for 1.5 hours and in that time I just got into the secret area in the Cathedral to save the Queen.

We all know this game is absolutely amazing, and if you haven't played it, you are missing out on an actually iconic RPG.

Still trucking along. Lets see what June has for me...

108680_front.jpg

Skip Beat for the PS2. Sadly It does not have an english patch here on RGT, and I don't like VNs' enough to try to track one down I have, (6 months in) my first pass. I had no idea I would regret passing on a visual novel in a language I can't read. I got... 7 Sins

60777_front.jpg
Screenshot 2025-06-08 175455.png

The short short synopsis: It's an asshole simulator.

The not as short version: Its effectively Leisure Suit Larry without any of the story or humor getting in the way, and unlike LSL apparently you can actually get laid. All while exploiting unsuspecting women for money sex and influence.

From the tutorial:

Screenshot 2025-06-08 175621.png

Screenshot 2025-06-08 175733.png

Screenshot 2025-06-08 180303.png

After the tutorial you go to your "job" at a high end woman's products store. While you are being a piece of crap there are things that make you Horny, Nervous, or Angry and you need to find ways to relieve these states. Like peeing on plants, (which is a mini game) and ogling your prey (which is also a mini game) among others. You can do "Sins" which are basically things you can do to get an advantage or cheat in some way of which you can do 7 times if you don't relieve them by... actually listening to what your target thinks about things.

I managed to last the whole hour of play, in which time i got a mark to slap me, kiss me, and change clothes outside of a changing room exposing her undies.

Total cringe-fest. Play at your own risk.

Let's play:
1749438902775.png

Made by Titus Interactive, known for such classics as Suoerman 64, RoboCop for the PS2 and kicking your household pet into a ditch, this is your standard arcade formula-one racer. Perfect for beginners looking to understand the basics of managing turns and shifting gears without overwhelming you with custom vehicle stats or complicated terrain physics. Just pick a vehicle, select a track and turn that PS2-era eurotek up to 10! It's not bad, definitely something your dad would pick up from the bargain bin and I think that says more than any number could.

1749441141645.png

Pressing "R2" on the vehicle select menu will reveal character portraits, because who needs to know about tire durability when the desert sun is just going to torch them anyway?

(I had a lot of fun making this)

I'm currently at work, away from my emulating machine, but I had to take a roll.

Musou_Orochi_2_Special_JPN_PSP-Coverart.jpg

English patched version of Warriors Orochi 2 Special? Hell yeah, I ain't mad at that. I'm looking forward to seeing what the teeny tiny battlefields will look like. And am I losing my mind or is that Rachel from Ninja Gaiden photobombing the cover back there?

It's July already... lets see what I get! Mega Man X4 for the Sega Saturn. Cool.

A few caveats for this months challenge:
1. I have never played any of the X series before and my report will reflect that i think.
2. I mostly play RPG's so, though I do play side-scrollers quite a bit I am not an expert at them.
3. I never look up any guides for these challenges so I don't know the proper order to play things in.

Someone attacks the city and it looks like its a group of robots called the Repliforce. However you run across a Colonel of the Repliforce and they say its not them but they end up being the bad guys anyway because they would not submit to authority.

Screenshot 2025-07-09 135524.png

After an animated cut scene:

Screenshot 2025-07-09 135834.png

It drops you at the stage select screen.

Screenshot 2025-07-09 140124.png

I chose the cyberspace stage and apparently, that is the wrong answer. The stage itself wasn't too bad. There was only a single timed wall jump I had problems with. It has sections and you are graded at the end of each of them. If you do poorly in a section you are forced to redo it. So i get to the boss of the stage:

Screenshot 2025-07-09 142754.png

And he summarily kicked my booty back to the continue screen. I tried one more time and after 3 more swift deaths, it became obvious that I was not going to take him out with the basic gun. I went back to stage select and chose the Jungle stage to try my luck there.

The stage itself was quite easy for me so I figured I might have made a good choice. Then I got to the boss:

Screenshot 2025-07-09 153539.png

I didn't beat him before my hour was up but i was learning his attacks and the x-buster was doing damage to him. Is the bet first boss to kill... no idea.

So, the game is hard, but that's not a strike against it, these games are hard on purpose. The thing that always gets me with Saturn games (in my observations only, it may well be different for everyone else) is how heavy the controls feel. I have never played on actual hardware so i don't know if its my emulator or not, but every Saturn game i have played has had this heaviness. If I were to keep playing I would get adjusted to it but an hour isn't enough time for me.

The game looks great though, I may have to look into the X series more.

I'm back again for another try.

Sega Sports was great. BRING IT BACK.

Its August already? Daaaaaaang. Time to roll again, and I got...
Full Auto 2: Battlelines

Screenshot 2025-08-13 165447.png

Before getting this randomly I had never heard of this game. But it looked like a good time so I was excited to jump in.

Its set in a strange future where an AI that brought the whole world to peace is being undermined by a group of people that uses these destruction derby type events to over throw it. However, somehow, that group is also loosing their grip on things, so it turns out that the best driver in these derby events basically rules the world somehow. Yes, I used somehow 2 times in that last sentence. The plot is a bit of a stretch.

The game itself is a bit Need for Speed, and a bit Twisted Metal. You choose a "race":

Screenshot 2025-08-13 173307.png

Then choose your vehicle and weapons:

Screenshot 2025-08-13 173408.png

BATTLE!!

Screenshot 2025-08-13 175243.png

And win to unlock new weapons vehicles and customization items:

Screenshot 2025-08-13 173149.png

All in all its a simple but pretty fun game. Steering was really sensitive for me, but that was my only real complaint. Rubberbanding is crazy but it pretty much has to be there to keep the game interesting so you get used to it pretty quick.

The run away best part of the game is a great Rock/Metal soundtrack featuring bands like: Stone Sour, Megadeth, and The Used, among others. I was pretty impressed!

September was not kind to me. I got Alpha Mission II on the PSP.

Don't get me wrong, I have no problems with shmups, I am just terrible at them.

As far as I can tell this is a typical arcade vertical shooter: Hard as balls, and highly technical.

Screenshot 2025-09-15 133442.png

I never got much of a grasp of how the upgrade systems work so I am not sure what all you can do. I was able to upgrade my regular shot as well as missiles and movement speed. There were quite a few other pickups but I have no idea what they did.

In my time playing I never made it past stage 2, even on the easy setting. (don't judge) so i made sure to grab a screen of my only win:

Screenshot 2025-09-15 134137.png

And of course I grabbed a pic of the screen I saw the most:

Screenshot 2025-09-15 134317.png

If you are a fan of this genre of game I'm sure this game would be a worthy notch in your belt. This version of the game allows you to change settings like difficulty so you can determine the level of challenge you want to take on. Its a good, and good looking game, just not my personal style.

Wish me luck. First game given to me was a PS2 RPG game. Second one was a Sega Saturn shmup. Not in the mood for a big download, skipped. The third was Rushing Beat on the Super Famicom (also known as Rival Turf) published by Jaleco. The name Jaleco does not inspire confidence as Jaleco is known for low budget games. Anyway, Rushing Beat plays like a Final Fight ripoff. lt starts with a cutscene where you need to go rescue your sister. I played through the first four stages. There was no other dialogue or storyline at all, apart from the intro. Also, one of the characters, Douglas Build, is just M. Bison copied from Street Fighter. On another note, the pixel art is impressive. Backgrounds, objects and enemy sprites have lots of detail. No complaints with the controls, sound effects or music. Decent presentation overall.

Jaleco deserves some praise. Rushing Beat has higher standards than most beat em ups.

For October I was hoping for a spooky game but I had no such luck. The randomizer gave me:
Super Mario 64: The Green Stars

The-Green-Stars.jpg

I was pretty happy about this. My first random rom hack. But all I could manage to get from it is sound, no picture. So I hit the random button again: K-1 World Max 2005

FotoK-1WorldMax2005Japonés.jpg

Considerably less enthused about this one I am not a big sports person. I couldn't find an English patched version so I had to pass on it too (which did not hurt my feelings).

Okay third time is the charm right? Apparently not. I got: Romance of the Three Kingdoms II

48033_front.jpg
Screenshot 2025-10-13 163613.png

Don't take my negative response as a slight against this or any of the early war strategy games. I am simply not smart enough to play them. So I stumbled through this one for the hour and managed to make the map change color a bit. It went from this at the start:

Screenshot 2025-10-13 172848.png

To this at the end of the time.

Screenshot 2025-10-13 171120.png

I want to say that I did well but I know better. I was able to occupy a few empty areas. One of which was only because I had to flee from a fight I tried to pick with province 14. I was mostly lost the whole time. I am betting that if I had a guide to help explain what all the options are I may have done better.

Long story short I did not have much fun playing it. If this is your thing though, you have an ability I just don't have. More power to you.

As a side note: 10 down, 2 more and I complete the whole year.

I got Final Fight Guy, it's pretty fun, after all it's just the first Final Fight game -- for a game that early in the beat em' up genre it is pretty competent in what it aims to do -- but the difference is that you play as Guy here, and I think he's pretty cool :>

I only got as far as the third stage, the Andres are pretty OP, and there's no invincibility frames after you get up so yeah, the bosses in this game are pretty tough
