PS1 PSX or PS1

definitely PSX Because it has a foundation of the time on its first own popularity and is between almost the era of Y2K and before dropping the PS2.
So now we are now calling it as PS1 after the released of PS2. For that I disagree to called it PS1.
I truly think that old gens called things in a way to say like PSX, makes it genuine to its predecessor of experimental era unlike it's own era of PS2. Likewise PS2 has it own reputation on the side of Sci-Fi side menu/intro/logo and some Games although is not close to PSX means to convey. Literally PS3 is a improvement for PS2 to have the futuristic version.
PSX has one of it's kind for obscure aesthetic from taking the old computer components by making itself cartoony or harsh graphic polygon. It's why I like about them and calling it psx and has different in my mind to other consoles also because of DarkSeed game too.(I have never played before but it just hits for psx as whole)

I do want to mention that psx and PSX2 isn't my takeaway to say out aloud and it's just makes more confusion on the "X" part, the second gen of itself has massive appeals on future takes of Sony Entertainment. But Not yet for PSX.

I think I said PSX out of mimicry from online but you're right, it should be PS1.

Although not everyone know about the actual PlayStation X.

Technically it should be called the PlayStation without anything next to it.

Microsoft renamed the first Xbox the Classic one right? Sony should give it an official retronym (maybe "PlayStation Original" so it would still make sense with the word "One" in an acronym).

I always called it "Play 1". That's how it was called around here in Brazil, PS2 too was often called "Play 2".
So they say "play 2" in brazil too huh (Im italian)

If I say it outloud its always play 1 or playstation 1, but if Im typing it I go back n forth, sometimes I go psx just because all the lets plays on old youtube called it that and it looks cool lol

So the vernacular term "Play 2" is an European and South American thing?

I cant speak for all of europe but its how you say it in italy, I guess portuguese is similar enough we have a similar abbreviation
Maybe it's because in other languages saying "P S" as individual letters is less often done.

Even the SNES is not called the "S N ee S" where I am but snes as a single word.

We dont really casually use acronyms in italian like ppl do in english, like we say "NES" as a word; ive never heard anyone say "gba" they either say game boy or gameboy advance. Unless the acronym is the game like the DS

this is a major brazilian publication from back in the day, notice how they refer to the PlayStation as PSX.
it was a magazine thing since that's how Sony itself presented the console years before to the press.
nobody in real life would say out loud "Pee Es Eks" or any sort of thing, but "PlayStation".
"Play one" was a new way to reffer to it as the PlayStation 2 got more popular, so we had to differ both.

(second image is from the same SuperGamePower in April 1994)

another example of PSX over PS1 was in IGN dedicated section to the PlayStation: https://web.archive.org/web/19990909065736/http://psx.ign.com/news/6079.html

In Poland usually we just say "Play [number]", but lately people turned to saying "P S". At one point PlayStation was even used instead of console.
I just called it "the first PlayStation" and use "PSX" just for convince of googling things.
On the other hand, perhaps we should be in line with "fun" Sony naming scheme and use "Sony SCPH 1000" when referring to first PlayStation? After all Sony uses "PS" for their record players.

I don't care.

Maybe it was preferred for ordering reasons, or an abreviation needed more than 2 letters, or people didn't do ps1 since there wasn't a ps2 (yet) and just ps would give you garbage in search results so psx was used, then the ps2 came out and it become ps1 again for ordering... And PS seems like you'd get a lot of blogs and notes where they append stuff like in mailing letters.

Probably not too dissimilar to the D language which i love to use, where you can't just search for D instead it's referred to as dlang by Walter Bright so searches will actually find it.

When I got the internet in 1998, I noticed that it was being called PSX on websites like IGN and on the online message boards. There was also a magazine here in the USA called PSX (short for Playstation Experience). For a while before the Playstation 2 came out, people were calling it the PSX2. I think that's where the name of the Playstation 2 emulator PCSX2 came from. Sony was trying to change the name among communites so they released the Slim PS1 as PSOne. I did notice that people started to use PS1 in the early 2000s and it became the common way to refer to the original Playstation.
I personally stopped using PSX eventually because a comment would always come up and derail the original conversation.
