I say PS1, with the number. I’d really like to just use “PlayStation”, but Sony, in their infinite wisdom, decided to call the entire brand that, so it’s really confusing not to include a suffix. “PSX” is going to come back to bite you all when the PlayStation 10 comes out!

The real question: Why did people, for the longest time, abbreviate “GameCube” as “GCN”?

your right with the the "GCN", you cant say its the code name because the code name is dolphin
so I guess it "GameCubeNintendo"?

The only time I recall it being called like that in an official source was Mario Kart DS

iirc here in latin america there was a magazine called club nintendo, idk if it existed in my country tho

i think that's what they replaced the live action segments on the mario bros cartoon with.

I always thought that PSX was the Japanese name of the console. Like the Famicom to the NES.

Iirc it was because NGC was too similar to Nokia's N-Gage and N-word's legal department got paranoid.

I've pretty much always written out PSX, but I can't remember why that is. I'm assuming a gaming magazine would abbreviate it that way in their review sections.

I always called it "Play 1". That's how it was called around here in Brazil, PS2 too was often called "Play 2".
