Game Description:

Prey is an Action-Adventure/First Person Shooter video game published by 2k Games and developed by Human Head Studios released on 2006 for Microsoft Windows.

Tommy is a down-on-his-luck garage mechanic, stuck in the middle on who-knows-where on some forgotten reservation, where Native Americans are tucked away out of sight, out of mind.

And then the unthinkable happens! Earth becomes prey to the galaxy's largest predator, a space bound Texas-sized alien that's looking to satiate its hunger with the organic goodness that most populates Earth: Us. And the first course is a certain forgotten reservation.

A Spiritual Awakening:

Tommy and his girlfriend have become prey, his grandfather killed, and hundreds of his tribal nation have been abducted through space-warping portals. Freeing himself, all Tommy cares about is saving Jenny. But the spirit of his grandfather beckons him to embrace his heritage, accept the ancient teachings, and prepare to battle the menace that threatens to destroy all the planet's life. It's a choice between love and responsibility. It's a choice that cannot be made easily.

Innovative Gameplay:

* Built on an enhanced Doom 3 engine (id Tech 4)
* Portal technology adds a new dimension to gameplay, allowing enemies to appear out of thin air and create new and completely original puzzles and gameplay styles.
* Several never-before-seen gameplay elements such as Spirit Walking, Wall Walking, and Deathwalk.
* Highly organic, living environment that itself can attack Tommy.
* Tommy has a sidekick, a spiritual hawk that can help him fight enemies and decipher the alien language of the living ship.
* Multiplayer game support that takes advantage of the unique gameplay styles in Prey.

This game has been fixed to work with Windows 10/11 and has been known to work fine on Linux and Steam Deck (Using Wine/Lutris or Proton)

To launch the game run PREY.exe, settings can be changed with notepad using preyconfig.cfg found in the base folder. Do not change the screen resolution through the game since it will have trouble reverting back to what it was in the .cfg.

To fix the scaling for the game, right click PREY.exe and go to Properties then in the Compatibility tab under Settings click Change high DPI settings and check the box for Override high DPI scaling behavior at the bottom and apply the change.

To change to a different language, run the PREYLang.cmd file and pick the language you want. (Only text will be in the language, but everything has subtitles.)

This has been paired with AntiMicroX and a portable version of it is included in the download along with a gamepad profile I made for the game. Load AntiMicroX before running PREY.exe and with your controller connected (might have to be one recognized as Xbox instead of PS) load the Prey.amgp file. Of course, you can create your own profile and edit all the keyboard keys too, but I think my profile works pretty decent. (on the Github page you can find AntiMicroX versions for Linux as well)

This game is good stuff.

Oh nice, didnt know windows stuff was also allowed. Might upload a copy of Burnout Paradise i bought a bit ago. Tho i dont know if its valid since it needs a crack to bypass the activation.
Also of Prey is real nice, thanks for the upload.

i got it and tried to run it but its so slow and im only getting about 8-17fps, any way to fix that?
What are your specs? This game should be a cakewalk to run unless you're literally using the worst potato PC possible from like before the game was even made.

It's like Turok. Not the best fps of its time but still had few good tricks like playing with gravity and also had some very terrifying moments time to time. The ending was also fulfilling!

Anyone know how to turn off the frame counter? It's annoying but I'm loving this game regardless. Thanks for the upload, I've always wanted to play this since it came out.
You can disable it from the line for it in the preyconfig.cfg file. Edit it using Notepad or whatever you got as a text editor (personally I use Notepad++) and save the changes and then restart the game

Long story short: Bethesda screwed them over because the studio making the game refused to be bought out by them. They cut their funding and while the stalemate was going on, they made Arkane studios make another Prey in secret.
That made me so mad when I leant of it. The cinematic trailer was fantasic too!

My favorite of the id Tech 4 games. I also prefer it to Prey 2017 even though immersive sims are typically my favorite style of game.

INDIANS IN SPACE! This was great on PC when it released.
Didn't seem like the 360 port did this game any favors. Did they ever fix it for Xbox One X or Series X?

This game was half decent when it came out.

That ending sure was a bummer for me though.

I wish this could be uploaded to GOG. This is exactly the kind of thing that service exists for, but Bethesda refuses to allow this game to be easily obtained through legit means. The excuse for it getting taken off Steam was something along the lines of the engine running out of CD keys it could recognize. Calling bullshit.
Bethesda has done other evil things as well.

That was total bullshit. Since the CD keys would only be required when installing it from the retail disc. One from Steam would use something like this that doesn't need to be installed. So the game would never even need to request for a serial key. Bethesda is just being petty and trying to punish anything involving this game

I really like this game and play it every few years, try it with HD textures because it really looks great

I remember this for the Art Bell cameo - one of the only times I have heard him outside of coast to coast am (it's an in game broadcast of the real life radio show though)
I think that makes it more immersive than any other alien invasion stories in gaming

That was art bell - he has been dead for many years now but he had an AM radio show discussing paranormal/aliens/conspiracies and related things - fits very well with the game's plot and events
Yes thank you Art Bell was the guy! I couldnt remember his name, but that was a great reference that the game creators made, basically what you just said. Its a long recording it seems, but I'm not sure how long.

Game has a big cult following, actually. Considered pretty good, just didn't sell very well from what I understand. An ACTUAL Prey 2 was in development I thought, before it was scrapped for... Prey in space?
The sequel was advertised in Bethesda published games back in 2012. My copy of Dishonored came with one.

Oh my god, I'm so glad to see this on here. Always wanted to check this game out. Shame it's still officially trapped on the 360.

Thanks for sharing that info, I was using a pirated version of the app reWASD which allows for using the gyro on controllers but that app does something that completely messes up how Bluetooth controllers that have multiple device profiles get paired in Windows. Now my GameSir T4 Pro always wants to pair in Pro Controller mode instead of Xbox, even when it's specifically set to Xbox mode. I wish there was a way to fix this. I uninstalled reWASD completely using Revo Uninstaller Pro and the behavior never went back to normal. Long story short: don't ever use reWASD. It's not free, it's not really as versatile as it appears on the surface, and it'll screw up the behavior of Bluetooth controllers. There are better freeware button mappers to use instead of reWASD. Like AntiMicroX and the one you just mentioned. It would be nice if AntiMicroX would have support for gyro mapping. Maybe they will in the future

Haven't tried it with this game, but you can usually add the .exe to Steam as a "non-Steam game" and then use Steam Input to map the controls however you want, including gyro

You have to use joyshock mapper (and so ditch AntimicroX): https://github.com/Electronicks/JoyShockMapper

I always want to know why this company never make the sequel.
