Pragmata was... just okay

Capcom has been winning harder than most for sure, but I will never forget that pain.

Everytime I look at the moon... I sigh.

Could you refrain from calling Diana a "loli robot" please? Thank you.
To be fair, we all know "why" the developers made Diana look like "that"; there just isn't any other logical reason to create a robot that looks and acts like a child.

You're not the only one, and that pain was felt for many or nearly all depending on the game. I still remember the pain and anger I felt when DmC got announced.

I remember the HYPE but I also remember the confusion and then DMC 5 came out and I was like... hmph, good.

Would you say the same about bioshock 2? Or any game involving taking care of a young person?

I don't really like that rhetoric of "there isn't any other reason to do that" when it could also simply be for the game to be simply cute and wholesome. Video games doesn't need to justify why something is happening like that because it's a video game not real life.

I'd rather see people being empathic about her than having some twisted ideas.

Really? I thought it was pretty good, it's a basic sci-fi action adventure game that reminds me of the games by Rare. Think of Jetpac and Jet Force Genimi mix with platforming duo elements from Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong Bananza with Resident Evil 4 gameplay. I like the Father child team up, the controls are well done, and it's very linear despite multiple endings which I am not a big fan of. I guess we all have different tastes.

I don’t know, I’m not a fan of big budget AAA games anymore. I bought uncharted and infamous on release, and I love them even now, but ever since then so many of them tried to recapture that high. They even feature a reasonably sized campaign, but games lost their luster and personality a long time ago. I don’t see how this and Saros are a big deal in any way.

If you're referring to positive "hype", that was mainly the games journalists who were either apathetic to the OG games at best, or saw them as "old news, relics of the past," and part of the "Japanese gaming is dead/no longer relevant/not needed anymore".

Depends on who you're talking about and what sector. Many did, bother didn't or took in a different direction one may or may not approve of. Most of the Western AAA lost their luster years ago, and but it was really noticeable in the middle of 8th generation. While many of the Japanese AAA or those of smaller sizes either got it back again, or already had it, and continued to improve themselves further.

It was me, I was hyped ::linkmouthcover

My PS5 does exactly the same thing. Purchased day 1, kept it clean and well maintained. One day without warning it shut down instantly whilst playing Marvel's Spider-Man for PS5. Shuts down instantly with no overheating warning, or any other type of warning for that matter. Lasted less than a month before the issues began. Rang Sony and they said they'd repair it...for £250.

Worst PlayStation console ever. Shit UI, shit apps, no internet browser, unwieldy shape, can't even play the games it was supposedly designed for. Only good things about is that it's quiet and has the best modern controller in the Dualsense.

Oh well. Like you, I used it as inspiration to finally save up to build my own PC. Gaming life has been good since. :D
I had mine since 2020 launch via PS Direct and never had an issue, I did notice that the UI was horizontal for the majority of the system itself. But they fixed that (Thank God) and made everything vertical instead. The only issue I can see for overheating is that you left the console standing instead of leaving it laying flat like I have. There WAS a internet browser at ver. 21 I was able to screen shot a image on google images as my profile banner before they removed that feature

My console has always been laid sideways on the stand that it came with, and the browser is still accessible last I checked via messages by sending a url to a friend and then clicking on it, but it can't play videos and is functionally useless.
Still, glad your console has served you well. I can only speak from my own experience.

True, but when a particular genre is oversubscribed, if it wants to stand out then a new game in that genre needs to either (a) go really deep into the genre mechanics and take them to their logical conclusion, or (b) subvert the mechanics entirely/combine them with other genre mechanics.
Agree! It doesn't stand out because it needed to appeal to the masses.

you may have only played a small part of the game , 30 or 40 dlc packs are probably on the way followed by the complete edition in around 18 months time with 41 dlc packs.
Ah, the old 'suffocating with content' approach.

Very Sims-like.

It was in development hell for so many years suprised game even come out at all
At least Capcom didn't turn it into your typical online slop so i could be much worse
For some reason the initial reveal trailer gave me the impression we had something special here (like I argued in my OP), so when we entered said development hell I was terrified that this special thing was gonna get canned, and when the new trailers finally came out and picked up the hype I prayed that it would actually reach the finish line.

To be honest I don't why people this days called kids loli I mean they are kids character even os a robot or human they act like kids not adults.
Google: "Loli" is a Japanese term, short for "Lolita," referring to anime or manga characters that are young girls or young-looking, petite female characters. It is often used to describe a specific, innocent, or child-like aesthetic (moe) in fiction."

Nowhere is "loli" defined as the sexualization of said character, just the young and innocent aesthetic, but it's true that today's anime community is changing the definition.

I believe this game is more than just okay. Capcom has done a good job with games so far this year. Now I hope that the remake of Resident Evil Code Veronica will be released soon.
Sure, they have done a good job... but they are also following a set template in an evergrowing pile of over the shoulder action (shooter) games.

When a term reaches the general public, it tends to be used in a stupid and incorrect way.

There's a difference between the literal definition of a word and the context of their use.

Words are evolving (not always in a good way).

Cute robo loli but the gameplay looks like it'll get tedious after a while.

Not interested in games with DRM unless removed and don't forget they stealthily put DRM on their old games. Me personally is still salty that DMC V still doesn't have official Turbo or LDK mode on PC. I shouldn't have to use a mod for that.

So yeah, Crapcom is still Crapcom to me

True, just look at the first Persona. Probably one of the weirdest and most subversive MegaTen games out there. Still clunky as all hell though.
Even the PSP remake of the first two Persona games are pretty clunky, and that's after the QoL improvements.

True, Persona 2 PSP not only goes at the speed of molasses, but got even easier. And then PSP Persona 1 has the encounter rate be atrocious at times + they replaced the soundtrack but didn't fill in most areas so it has less variety

That doesn't make a lick of sense, one of the first hit manga was literally about a robot that looks and acts like a little boy. That's all it was too.

And that's not even to mention the Mega Man franchise, Persona 3, My Life as a Teenage Robot and various others in the same place, there are plenty of robots that look or act like children besides Diana and it's not for the reasons you're implying.

When so many people concurrently agree that something is great, I tend to gaslight myself into believinh that I'm just being the bitter contrarian for the sake of it, yet after playing Pragmata that I had waited 6 years for since its first teaser in 2020 - then 4 years of silence which gave it a sort of mythical status - to its release here a couple weeks ago... I feel it wasn't the unique pioneer I had dreamed it up to be.

Don't get me wrong, it delivered what it promised: this new hybrid og gunning and hacking, but in a gaming world LITTERED with 3rd person shooters and father-daughter/son stories, I had hoped for/expected something a bit deeper and more fleshed out. I am not sure what exactly I hoped for or expected, but I have this nagging feeling that, while a fine enough surface-level experience - The Last of Us but in space - it really doesn't bring anything new we haven't already seen or feels like a 6 year game, which is why (my cynical side talking) the made Diana the poster girl, because they knew that at least cuteness sells and controversy is free marketing.

Did ya'll pick it up and what do you think?

I thought Capcom would break new grounds with this one, but just like how Death Stranding seemed like this big new innovator until we got the game, the mystery disappeared, and it turned out to just be a fedEX walking simulator, I have now once and for all learned my lesson that nothing is special or unique anymore.
I have only played a little bit of it, but it is striking to me how repetitive it seems to be.
First area: there's a big door with 4 locks. find the nodes to hack/unlock the locks
Second area: there's an even bigger door, with 6 locks this time. Wash Rinse repeat

Now to be fair: I haven't played past that yet (I've been busy with work and family stuff) so who knows. maybe it gets less repetitive. but I'm not exactly biting at the bit to get back to it at the moment.

I will say I like the combat, but it also feels... OK. I guess. It gets the job done. it's better than Resident Evil combat, but less fun somehow.

I was thinking earlier that the game is seemingly only creative to the extent it needs to be. So like the tech/designs are interesting, but kind of generic. The enemies are nice looking, but derivative.
the weapons are standard fare, but varied just a little.

On the plus side, I do like the hub area, and the ability to upgrade things is always a plus for me.

IDK. I'll beat it this week or next and probably delete it. That seems to happen a lot for me this year

I remember thinking something very similar about bioshock 1 and 2 actually. Also you need to keep in mind that Diana is not a real human that just happens to be a child when the game begins, she is a robot created by humans to look and act exactly the way she does; her being a "loli" is the whole point of her existence.

Also also, the game is japanese sooo.......

It's like asking why a robot can be female-presenting (like Maria from Metropolis).

Yeah, I don't do cultural stereotyping, nor make excuses for it.
And I think it's a xenophobic way of treating things just because they came from a different country...

Even without being aware of it.
