Panzer Dragoon appreciation thread

I remember getting to disc 4 of Panzer Dragoon Saga on SSF a long time ago and then it crashing, I tried every version of SSF I could find with the same results, it never occurred to me I might have a bad ISO. Now I'm playing the series in order and considering the time I took to beat the first one, I guess it's gonna be a while till I finally see how it ends

Don´t give up and try Zwei next, it´s an amazing series and the end of Saga is breathtaking!

Well, one is an RPG and the other is a rail shooter. They’re not at all comparable. A reminder, Saga is the one and only time Panzer Dragoon was an RPG. Its name in Japan is “Panzer Dragoon RPG: Azel”.

So, in short, play Shining AND Zwei! You’ll have time for both, since Zwei is short to playthrough. It’s one of those “play it multiple times to play in multiple ways” kind of games.

Then I’d start with the first game! Predictably, the second game builds on the first’s teachings.


It’s one of those “it’s better, but you have to have the context of what It’s better than to appreciate it” sequels. And the first game is totally worth it too! I love the chase in the tunnels, the battle through the ruined city, and the first flight moment.

If the saturn emulators for android weren't so bad, i would, at least, have a go off it.

I wish there was a Wii release with wiimote controls.

My only issue with the game is that the aim is dependant on his placement on the screen.

I received my MiSTer setup (QMTech clone) a couple of days ago and the first RPG I'm playing on it is Panzer Dragoon Saga. I played it more than a decade ago, but one of the burned CDs didn't load and didn't have any blank CDs ATM. I got distracted and never played it again until now.

The amount of audio is impressive for its age, it gives a more modern feeling in that regard. And the combat system is interesting, I like the way it mixes turn-based with real time without losing its Panzer Dragoon flavour. The story hasn't picked up that much yet, I just started the second CD.

To think I could have bought it for 30€ when I was a teenager... But then again, I 100% wouldn't have kept it until now.
