Can't we all agree that liking a game depends on the person preferences?
No, we were debating about the fact that while it contains RPG elements and aesthetics, no actual 'role-playing' is ever actually done in Earthbound beyond the scope of the player naming the character, walking around, talking to people, getting items, and fighting battles; s'got nothin' to do with Personal Preference.
What objectivity some of you try to bring up?
The guy brought up the argument about Tales of Phantasia lacking role-playing elements similarly, in a response to me responding to another person when I referenced the game as being a better example of a jRPG on the Super.
While I couldn't think of any particular examples in the game, as i haven't been able to play through it fully, I know enough about Tales games to know what to expect here, and they're always full of great dialogue and situational humor for the characters; if not a better role-playing experience then at least a less bland one.
Innovation? OK resident evil 1 was innovative but does it play good today? No......some will disagree some will agree , personally i like RE1 the least it's combat is so clunky and this feeling stems from the fact that enemies have way too slow animation that doesn't sync with their hitbox , try shooting a zombie when it's in the process of going down you won't harm it and the bullet is gone to waste! , try shooting a hunter when it's midway through the getting up animation , since you think it's getting up so you aim the shotgun straight without aiming down and BAM bullet gone and no damage done and 50% chance your head got sliced talk about walking middle finger aka the hunters.
I played Resident Evil for the first time a year or two ago. I wanted to beat it, but I got stuck at some point and just never really started up again. I think it was against a plant boss or maybe right after one? I don't remember
I think it's fair to hand out what X game done when it comes to reinventing the genre or changing it , and also your own opinion i seen some fellas talk smack about half life and while you may not like it we need to remember half life were groundbreaking at the time , with HL1 encompassing some of that arena shooter movement speed and half life 2 interactive mechanics and impressive source engine physics for its time that is.
I've never liked either Half-Life and still don't know what people see in it.
One thing we need to understand and learn on the internet is people exaggerate things , next we hear how FF7 invented nuclear submarines? Lol i seen more hate on FF7 on this site than admiration so much for "overrated"
I don't think it's overrated, despite being heavily praised by many online gaming communities; it's the fact there are a bunch of people who emphasize it's merits too highly for what substance the game actually contains. The truth is, FF7 was highly innovative; I'd like to get into more detail about this but I cannot. Just look at all the backgrounds for each section and scene, and the graphical style alone ought to make my point for me.
I would say an overrated game FROM MY PERSPECTIVE is Final Fantasy tactics!
Okay now you're just blaspheming.
the world doesn't get utilized as much as i want,
Valid. But they had to start somewhere, taking the story in some direction. I feel they did a good job working with what they had, and while I too would have liked to have seen more, the fact remains that the game was never intended to be a mainline title and as such, was never designed with the same level of respect and attention to detail that a mainline entry would.
the gameplay has some legitimate RNG that mean winning or defeat , i use save states a lot and saving mid fight meant certain characters do some passive ability and BAM you have a chance of winning now , admittedly this is the case with the more late part of the game but i used mustadio extensively as his leg/hand shot was of utmost importance and i will sometimes or most of the time save before using it and load if it doesn't work , yeah it's not perfect by any means and me deciding to use leg shot is a risk of itself because tactics is a strategy game meaning actions have consequences that are pretty visible and clear.
I love Final Fantasy Tactics and probably always will. That said, I will willingly admit that it is an inherently broken game; the mechanics are busted to begin with and it's because of the way they decided to build the game, the entire system it runs is completely and inherently busted AF. Easy to crack wide open.
Doesn't mean it's not fun to play, but I'm not gonna lie and say the mechanics aren't broken AF.
But, those mechanics are super easy to take advantage of; it really isn't difficult to become OP, even without knowing there are levelup stat increases. The game is designed in such a way that most regular enemies you come across will be super weak to any character that's moderately strong, and the level of how OP you can become is way beyond what is necessary, even to overwhelm the hardest enemies in the game easily.
Not to mention the need to grind if you hire a new recruit as they start on level 1! Even by act 3!!! This means spending some half hour bullying a chocobo to milk XP out of it......
Use Focus, then you can boost your strength up until it doesn't let you anymore. Another good one you can use that doesn't require you to attack anything is the Mediator skills, you could buff Brave or Faith and then drain them back down again. I'm just saying there ARE options.
this may be just me doing some optimization but having shoes equipped all the time made other accessories less valuable because shoes = more move and more move = better battle control and better battle control = higher chance of winning
Hmm..
So I guess the real question here is, at what point does another stat or status effect outweigh the need for high movement? At what point are you able to sacrifice extra move ability for something different? It sounds to me that line of thinking is based on your play style rather.
there was only Henry the archer who i gave strength increasing accessory instead of shoes cuz range.
They also make great martial artists.
All in all your choices during gameplay determine your experience , if i was more hesitant to shoot immediately in resident evil 1 things may be different , if i was less reliant on mustadio FF tactics may be different.
The beauty of these games lies in the fact that they are so open-ended and there's no wrong way to play them; some of them might have a Right way, but there usually isn't a Wrong way.
I can't force people to change their opinions on certain games like if FF7 gameplay or story didn't click with you well what else remains? , but for what reason it didn't click with you?
I'm starting to think some people just want to criticize a game and pick flaws just to add to the conversation , no game is perfect and even a perfect game will not appeal to everyone.
Well, at least we can have these discussions in a safe space for everyone.
Difference of opinion was seen with a member saying SH gameplay is trash while the other held the opposite opinion , something silent hill 1 does that RE doesn't was it enabled firing when moving and has accuracy system of sorts implemented to decide if you can hit the target or not , this means enemies in the dark will be hard to hit , and firing rapidly causes Harry to miss so you are encouraged to shoot in a rather calm way well what this does is make you even more nervous and stressed because that monster is trying to kill you and the radio is going crazy and some unholy sounds the town is conjuring up is haunting you , not to mention silent hill offers more melee weapons than resident evil this may or may not be a decision on the developers end to force the player to get close to spooky monsters to again make player more scared , it's a neat way to add tension and make things more rough for the player but all this requires silent hill to click with you , if it doesn't well nothing i said above will change your mind.
Sounds cool, but I've never been much of a horror fan. I probably will never play it.
STOP WITH YOUR SHIT TAKES
Nobody here has a shit take. We were just discussing things from our own perspectives.
