Movies Overhated movies

This is absolutely still the rule by the by. The most recent final fantasy cameo was in a KH3 DLC and nothing else. There’s vague allusions to versus-XIII and Donald dick does the zetta flare spell that FFXIV bahamut does or whatever it was called but that’s it. I don’t think Nomura likes FF anymore and he plans on retiring cuz dude is pushing 60 now so it makes sense. I should also mention KH4 will be more like the world ends with you, another game Nomura made.

Oh well I can live with that. To be fully honest i just need more fuel to dunk on mark hamil (comic book reasons)
yeah, i got the impression that the higher ups are square don't care much for final fantasy unless it makes a ton of money.
i figured form the way the third game ends, kingdom hearts 4 would be like ffx-2.
you don't need more fuel to dunk on the loser nowadays, he provides plenty of that on his own. but if it makes your burns of him burn brighter, then its worth it.

I was actually born on May 27th, 1980: the first release of "Empire Strikes Back". I I can't remember t a time when I *didn't* love Star Wars.

I also loved the prequels for the most part. Controversial though it may be to say, Revenge of the Sith is my favourite of all Star Wars films.

I did try to like the Disney sequels, but ended up loathing them. I mean, The Force Awakens is just a remake of A New Hope, with less soul and worse characters. I didn't even see the final one because I thought they shit the bed so hard with the first two; and I was incensed that they resurrected Palpatine.

This movie is kinda overhated (it's also disliked by most of the community that liked the original anime)

It's Black Butler the movie. (Spoilers for the movie twords the end)

(I actually own this movie on DVD)

It's probably hated mostly because one they changed Ciel's gender for some reason (This is important for later)
They didn't feature two really loved characters, also the story line is kinda horrendous.

The important thing that's weird (Spoilers by the way)

At the end of the movie Ciel is dying and Ciel needs the antidote. So Sebastian puts the antidote in his mouth and he kisses Ciel to save him...

My thoughts

This movie is hilariously bad so I don't really hate it. It's just very stupid.

Okay...so don't kill me and hear me out...I found Emilia Perez to be an okay film. Not as bad as everyone was saying but not as good as the industry was saying. It is just okay.
Like I really liked the El Mal song and the papa song was nice too. Selena Gomez was definitely bad at it, but I never liked her performance in anything, including wizards of waverly place that made her a star in the first place. Lol. I really liked that show as a child, but even then, I found her performance to be the weakest of an otherwise funny cast.
Now the song that is most mocked online, "La Vaginoplasty", I thought that song was meant to be a bit cheeky. Like if you see the film, it definitely plays out in a dark humorish way, so I think the song itself is somewhat on the joke. Though the lady song is trying to be serious and is actually pretty terrible.
I actually like the central premise of it, like someone transitioning and trying to start a new life to escape from a dirty past and also living as their true self that they wanted to live, but being pulled back after the people they love get into danger. However, I do think it kind of squanders that premise by the finishing line.
Like act one does a fine job introducing characters and act two does a good job showing the world and raising some stakes...but act three...yeah I have no defense for that as well. I think I wanted the plot to go more in the direction of Emilia having to deal with past victims of her gang and having to make a final deal with rival gangs to get her family out of trouble, putting her life on the line, but instead it goes into a weird direction, where it is her wife's new boyfriend and all that...and I just lost interest at that point. Like Act three definitely squanders good potential.
So this is not even much of a defense, but more like. I don't think it is completely trash, but it could've been better.
Like it is definitely overhated because of the oscar thingey. I personally don't care much about the oscars, I can't even name all the nominees this year, but I have always seen with cinephiles that they will always, each year say, "Oscars are irrelevant" but will get mad if something they don't like gets nominated. Lol.
There is good talk to have there on its representation of mexicans, and the lack of cultural research which may cause for mexican viewers to feel out of film because it not being very well researched, but there have been plenty of films that are not well researched and still kind of turned out good. Gladiator (2000) infamously had walk outs by historical consultants from the set, and yet that film was amazing. Like if your film is good, audience won't care much about inconsistencies i guess.

But yeah, to summarize my point.

Is Emilia Perez a great film? No.
Is Emilia Perez a bad film? Also no.
Is Emilia Perez an average film with some potential here and there, with a central premise that could be interesting but doesn't go in the direction it should have and squanders the entire thing by lack of research and a really weak third act? Yes.
Did I hated my time watching it? No.
Did I loved my time watching it? No, but it didn't bore me or annoyed me. I was able to see it like any other normal film.
Would I have forgotten this film alongside other average Eurpoean arthouse films like High Life (2018) and Zombi Child (2019) that similarly wastes potential of a good premise, if it were not for all the media hubub and the memes? Absolutely.
Is there any better films than this in the LGBTQ market? Thousands and thousands. Go watch Bound (1996), The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen Of Desert (1994), Farewell To My Concubine (1994), Tangerine (2015), and A Fantastic Woman (2017).
Is there any better films than this in the crime drama market? Thousands and thousands. Start with the godfather and then go down the rabbit hole. Bound is also a crime drama.
Is there any better film in the crime drama musical genre? Just watch Blues Brother. Duh.
Am I stretching this reply way too long? Kind of.
Am I struggling to find an ending to post? Also kind of.
Am I about to reference a tired old meme? Yep.
Hotel? Trivago. Hehehehehehe.

Showgirls has really had a renaissance in the last 15 years, becoming possibly the definitive cult movie of the last 30 years, but despite the two being compared relentlessly as being part of the Holy Trinity of Camp (Showgirls/Mommie Dearest/Valley of the Dolls), Mommie Dearest has not had the critical reappraisal in the public eye that Showgirls has deservedly benefitted from.

It deserves to be considered a very good movie, as while the absolute assassination of Joan Crawford by Faye Dunaway is hyper-dramatic, and debatable in its relation to reality, it is a great depiction of the disorders that Crawford lived with and likely inflicted on those around her. It is a campy movie, but audiences in 1981 were not exactly aware of what narcissism in the home could really look like, and Faye Dunaway was undeservedly mocked for what is actually a master performance.

Thomas and The Magic Railroad. It was a classic when I was a small child and It still is. Alec Baldwin's performance is honestly borderline psychotic and makes the movie for me.

Jack And Jill isn't anywhere near as bad as people say it is. It's not Sandler's best film. Not even close. But it's not a total trainwreck. It has its moments. Jack is a horrible brother and despite Jill being annoying she really shouldn't be the object of the viewers ire.

Plus it's got this hilarious scene with Al Pacino:

This one.
Godzilla (1998).png

As a big monster on the loose, OK. As Godzilla? Uh, no. Directors didn't even care to watch the first movie for ideas. Watched Showa era movies instead, and said they were "Confused, who watches this shit??!!" Plays out like a crappy beast from 20 000 fathoms remake. Know something's wrong when Haruo Nakajima got up and walked out of the movie midway during the red carpet premiere and said "That's NOT Godzilla!"

Funny how people seem to have "forgiven it" when Zilla came out in Final Wars to get stomped by the real Godzilla. And now people even saying they like the kaiju as its own thing. Just not as Godzilla.

i think most of the people saying that they like this version of godzilla probably watched the animated series, which is far more in line with how most of the godzilla franchise is: big ass monsters fighting one another.

Why is Demolition Man in the vote? That's a fucking awesome movie, we got Rambo, Blade, and young Jack Black on the same screen.

Anyway, Zombieland 2 is good, yeah the jokes are outdated, but that's the point, pop culture doesn't evolve past a zombie apocalypse, innit?
People hate Zombieland 2? That was the perfect sequel, I would've hated it they had done something like "They had a zombie outbreak that killed hundreds of millions in 2009, but then things got back to normal and pop culture stayed the same before the SECOND OUTBREAK in 2019". That would've been lame as fuck. Most of the best jokes in it don't even have much to do with late Aughties pop culture, and rely more on the interplay between the characters much like the timeless classic that is ATHF.

Alright, here's a few movies that are objectively terrible and shit on their source material that I still actually like:

Yes, they are stupid. Yes, whenever a character from the games appears they get used in the stupidest way possible. No, they are definitely not scary just like the vast majority of zombie movies out there. But you know what? They are really good B-level action movies. Shit, Extinction is literally just Mad Max with zombies. I liked the first three of Paul W.S Anderson's Resident Evil movies because they are great at what they do (action) and are hilarious at some points. I could care less about Afterlife and everything after that though. They thoroughly lost my interest by then.
