Pick a movie you think is overhated

I spent way too long thinking about this. x)

The Blair Witch Project is the first one that comes to mind. It was a sensation when it was released, but most people don't seem to be too fond of it in hindsight. It's not perfect by any means, but I still feel it does a good job building atmosphere and is worth a watch.

Pitch Black would be my next choice. Nobody I know who has seen it thinks too highly of it and it's largely forgotten because Riddick isn't the focus. I'd say it's way better than any of the Riddick films, I'm really not a fan of those. The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay is an exception, that's a damn fine game. Again, not an amazing film, but I still feel it's a good watch.

Beyond the Black Rainbow doesn't seem to be both well known or well regarded. The consensus seems to be the movie is style over substance, which I can see, but I don't particularly agree with. It has an excellent soundtrack too. Another movie with flaws, but I watched it quite awhile ago and still remember most of it, which is a rarity for a lot of films I've seen since.

As far as game movies go, Super Mario Bros. is a pretty bad Mario film, but a decent watch. It's probably the worst movie I'm going to mention, but there is still creativity in it and fun to be had.

Mortal Kombat has good world building and the plot follows the games close enough. The soundtrack is also a complete banger. The movie's licensed music along with the Mortal Kombat: More Kombat album were hugely influential on my music tastes. It could have used more (and better) fight scenes though. But the biggest flaw of all is that it's a PG-13 rated Mortal Kombat movie. PG-13. MORTAL KOMBAT. What the fuck guys? I know it was all so it'd be viewable to a larger audience and thus make more money, but c'mon. However, Mortal Kombat Annihilation is as hated as it deserves and should stay in the toilet where it belongs.

Also, this scene came from it and it is a treasure.
Honestly i don't think anyone badmouths the first mortal combat movie, it's the ones that came after that tend to make people hate the movies (or love them, if your into really bad adaptations).

Personally i love the street fighter movie, but not because of the movie itself, because of raul julia's amazing performance as m.bison.

Yeah, I don't think the first Mortal Kombat movie was exactly loathed, like I said, it followed the game close enough EVEN IF IT WAS A FUCKING BLOODLESS MORTAL KOMBAT MOVIE. It's probably the best regarded of the 90s video game movies and for good reason. I'd even say further than the 90s. x) Looking at a list right now and it's pretty fucking dire. But anyway, the biggest criticism I've seen about MK is that it's a bad martial arts film, which I 100% agree with. There aren't many fights and the ones that are present are pretty lame. Kind of a big sin for a fighting game movie. DOA: Dead or Alive was a way worse movie but it had fights that looked like fights at least.

Raul Julia was a treasure that was taken from us way too soon. At least he'll forever live on in my heart for his roles in Street Fighter, The Addams Family movies and Overdrawn at the Memory Bank by way of Mystery Science Theater 3000.

I don't have any specific example right now, but I never understood adults hating on children's movies. They are supposed to appeal to their target audience, who cares if they aren't redefining cinema? I enjoyed the Super Mario Bros Movie as a kid. I loved Disney's Atlantis. The Rescuers: Down Under? Still a gem in my book.
it could have something to do with the saying: a story that can only be enjoyed by a child isn't a good story.

but most likely, people are usually told to "grow up" and "put those childish things away". animation nowadays is usually seen as being for kids only. it only been recently that the general view is changing. which is kind of hilarious when you know that animation was originally for adults only hobby. this is the reason why the 2000's era of superhero movies were dark and grim with barely any color. being grim and broody is "mature".
