Over-hated Games

Final Fantasy XIII

I have issues with it, but the game looks amazing

it has the best combat system in the series. It was strategic, flashy (Final Fantasy combat has never looked this good), fun , and actually challenging when you pursued five star rankings.

Great soundtrack too

And the sequels incorporated time travel and apocalyptic scenarios in interesting ways

Yeah, the issue is how long it takes to get good and strategic. It's like 2 hours before you can level up. Like 10 before you have 3 party members. Nearly 20 before you have access to every paradigm possibility. The game just takes far too long to introduce all the mechanics. 20 hours of tutorializing is excessive.

Those are valid points.

Doom 3 disliked? Really?

lol
Yeah, unless you lived under a rock it was impossible to not hear (even to this day) how DooM 3 is awful, is a DooM game in name only, it is the black sheep, etc. Some will claim that the only "passable" version is the BFG edition.

Doom 3 was sooo good, still is. Not the BFG Edition, fuck that version.

I agree with this, it lost many of the stuff that makes DooM 3 special.

Then it's only liked in my country lol. I had no internet when Doom 3 was popular and honestly didn't specifically dug ancient text from internet to learn what people think sorry mate lolol.

Honestly I was surprised but it would make sense because it's not like old Dooms and people would dislike the game for it, which my country had no such sentimental nostalgic BS so they just liked the graphics and how it's like a movie-like game.

It was pretty divisive game, but I wouldn't say it was universally hated or anything. A lot of people really enjoyed it still. Though it did get a bit overshadowed by Half-Life 2. The most frequent complaint was just that the whole thing was too damn dark and that you couldn't use the flashlight and gun at the same time, leading to the famous "Duct Tape mod" and the shoulder mounted light in BFG.

For the record I think the game is much better without the shoulder light. The Imps' fireballs and Plasma Gun's blasts lighting up the arenas looks fantastic, especially on an old CRT.

Side note, the game being so dark actually saved the Xbox port. The game is so demanding it was actually difficult to load textures in fast enough when the player is running quickly, so the Xbox version will actually load in a stock pure black texture as a fallback until it can load in the correct texture on an object, and this only works because the game is so damn dark lmao.

Shadow the hedgehog, Crash Bandicoot Wrath of Cortex and both Spyro ps2 games.
This isn’t the case anymore but Pac-Man World 3 used to be hated.

Different style from the first game, but not a bad game by any means.

People claim this is the worst Dragon Quest game, but I enjoyed it and don't understand all the hate it gets.

I will agree that the one hit kill can be annoying at times, but this is far from the worst platformer on the system, and can be quite enjoyable.

Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link. It's the champion of misunderstood games.

megaman & bass is ass
Not really. Yeah, it's brutally difficult, but it's nowhere near as bad as say... X7.

I think a lot of sequels that just don't live up to their predecessors get extrapolated as literally unplayable dogshit that killed my baby. Maybe it just ran better on an emulator but I recently replayed Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly after replaying the PS1 trilogy for the first time since I was a kid and I don't think it was as good as the previous games but it wasn't totally broken or awful. I'll even die on the questionable hill that while Duke Nukem Forever absolutely forever fails to live up to Duke Nukem 3D it doesn't belong anywhere near a worst games of all time list and is a perfectly cromulent FPS game.

Agreed, I actually like the fact that they didn't just toss out a Zelda 1 clone, change a few things, and say "here you go." They tried something different. Yes, it's a fucking hard game, but like I said about Deadly Towers, it's hard, not awful.

I actually think I like Zelda II more than the first, personally.
Much like I prefer ALTTP over OoT. Ya ya, boo me because OoT is the best thing since sliced bread, but that's just my opinion.

It doesn't have to be anyone else's. But no, Zelda II is not a horrible game. It's just Dark Souls hard for its time.

Undertale and Deltarune are both very hated nowdays due to the insufferable fandom Undertale had back in 2016, but community aside, I think both games are worth playing today, Undertale is a great RPG with a Killer soundtrack and Deltarune even tough isn't quite finished yet, it really shows how much Toby Fox improved as a writter, containing well fleshed out characters and a more morally ambiguous plot.

I heard people hate this game for "normal encounter rates" that is too high for new generation kids: https://retrogametalk.com/repository/nds-roms/black-sigil-blade-exiled-usa/

In reality its gamemap is small between story points so without such encounter rate you honestly wouldn't battle much, then it would turn into a visual novel (which would be fine by me because it's one of those rare games I liked its characters, universe, lore, story and situations) lol. They clearly didn't play usual JRPGs with fuck encounters, battles, enemies and shit gamemap lol. TBH this game seriously deserved a spot on my "favorite video games of all times". Yet again I stand corrected on how I should have never underestimated NDS's library!!! lol
