Oh boy, in 2027 and 2028 there's gonna be a bloodbath war between Nintendo and Sega Fans....

I like them for the games, and with no new mainline Sonic in 5 years or a new mainline Mario in nearly a decade since Odyssey, it's been a pretty dry season for me. I watched the first Sonic and Mario movies, but not enough to say I actually enjoyed them because movies have simply never clicked with me.
Since there are new Sonic fangames for one and Bananza for the other I'm pretty fine.

Shadow Generations and Bowser's Fury were good, but we need something better.

I know both games are different but I remember people complaining about how bad of an addition Bowser's Fury was whereas Shadow Generations was good despite that both are fundamentally add-ons over remasters... Maybe Generations being older made it easier to accept yet I still think Bowser's Fury was still more different from base 3D World than Shadow's story was to Gens.

I saw the first two Sonic movies and as much as I love Sonic, I just can't get into these movies. The whole mix of live action and CGI just feels like a cheap excuse to keep the movie budget low. As much as I love seeing Jim Carey in pretty much any role (and he is great here), I'd much rather have a fully stylized CGI movie in the Sonic world.

The Mario movies aren't masterpieces, but at least they are a visual spectacle and everything going on in the movie is related to the Mario world.

I'm happy for those who find enjoyment of these Sonic movies, I just wish they took place in the Sonic world and not... Montana USA.

When the movie was announced I had flashbacks about the old Smurf and Alvin & the Chipmunks movies that loved to combine LA with CGIs...

I almost wish Sonic was hand drawn, Roger Rabbit style.

I also think that Mario had a great display of sibling relationship that the game never had enough time to showcase.

In fact I kind of regret that the first act in Brooklyn wasn't a full third of the movie but I understand that they had to introduce Mario to the Mushroom Kingdom and Princess Peach.

The biggest crime about the Sonic movie is that we barely knew Longclaw so there's little to no emotional connection with her and we also barely saw Green Hills which is the iconic Sonic place.

Good for you.
I forgot to tell but you said the latest mainline Mario was Odyssey?

Why forgetting about Super Mario Bros. Wonder?

It's called Super Mario Bros so it's a mainline title.

You're good man. Personally I'd say Death Island was the weakest for me. But that's like saying Silver is worse than Gold. I'd still cash out the silver lol.
Death Island is at least entertaining in a stupid and best way possible, similar to the third film where Leon and Chris are pulling off John Wick moves. Infinite Darkness is really boring and even the villain is more forgettable than all of the other CG film villains. The second most boring being the second CG film.
I just think with franchises like RE that have insanely interesting lore, they could actually follow the canon for once.
I would not mind either, but every time they try to "follow lore/canon", they pull some dumb bullshit OC shenanigans no one asked for.

Ironic you say that, as an animated movie is cheaper than all of these films at this point. The budget for these movies keep increasing, and mixing CGI with live-action is already expensive enough as it is. That's why the Knuckles TV show is the worst of the bunch. The title is barely/not involved and we're stuck with Wade. A side character most people don't like or are lukewarm about. All that CGI for a short miniseries is too expensive, but that could have been easily solved by either not doing the show, or making it a shorter mini series by making it an all CGI cartoon. It's what they did with the Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles bonus short on the Sonic 2 (Blu-Ray/DVD).

I would have heavily preferred a 2D animated film, but I am glad these films get better with each entry, and the exces a Paramount are choosing not interfere with the writers or creators visions and lets them trust their audience. The fact humans, other than Tom, Maddie, Eggman, or the one who actually benefit from being there, and don't take up the run time, with the Sonic characters all taking center stage is the best thing, and how it should have been in the first place. They at least realized their screw ups quicker than any of the Bayformer films.

The live-action Sonic films are basically the better versions of that shitty Sonic X anime.

Yet, even the first film is better than either of those film trilogies.

Or better yet, a fully drawn hand animated film.

Brooklyn was as long as it needed to be, and I am glad they got to Mushroom Kingdom as soon as they did.

Annoying as ever since the Steam Forums if you're the same Ikagura, it seems, when I said Odyssey = 3D. Wonder for me was just a New Super with great animation.

And before you start asking a million questions like you always do, I already 100%'d it.

Fully hand drawn animation would be amazing but I don't think the youth care much for "2D" animation anymore. At least based on my friends kids' taste (or lack of)

So? Kids don't know what they want like most people, and even some of them are getting tired of the traditional/standard 3D CGI animation look. The most Minions films being the example. Still did not stop these kids from buying the Sonic IDW comic books, nor the special edition comic where every character has their Sega Genesis to Saturn/pre-Sonic Adventure look.

Also, I've seen plenty of kids enjoy the Sonic shorts/animations for Sonic Mania and anything made afterward. Considering many anime from Japan are still 2D, but use digital, and those tend to do fine with most kids or those who are older than the target audience.

Spider-Verse films are made up of CGI, but they have plenty of 2D elements, blends, or moments where an entire section is 2D animation, or imitates it the medium's techniques that become seamless.

Shadow Generations is overrated. There I said it.

To end the war, we just need a Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games movie.

Shadow Generations is overrated. There I said it.
That's a bold take as people are praising it like it's the best game since Generations...

On the other hand my biggest issue about Sonic X Shadow Gens is that for the Year of Shadow™ instead of making an entirely new and original game starring Shadow (probably during the events of Frontiers as Sonic is struggling in Starfall Island) they've decided to apply an expansion pack to a remaster (when Generations still looks fine even to this day) instead of co-developping a remaster of Sonic Gens plus a brand new Shadow game...

I don't mind seeing levels like Kingdom Valley (which represents 2006 much better than Crisis City imo) and Forces/Frontiers levels (as much as it's anachronistic and would retroactively make Shadow aware of the events of Forces which would create some incoherence lore-wise) yet I would have rather seen a game that is original as Frontiers already recycled previous level layouts for the cyberspace levels.

Reminder that Sonic Colours is still to this day the last 3D Boost game with 100% original levels. Lost World was a different type (with generic themes) and Forces and Frontiers all reused previous zones.

Annoying as ever since the Steam Forums if you're the same Ikagura, it seems, when I said Odyssey = 3D. Wonder for me was just a New Super with great animation.

You've just said mainline without 3D and even if it's like NSMB mainline doesn't necessarily mean 3D (even the 2D top down Zelda game are technically mainline as they're part of the timeline).

I would not mind either, but every time they try to "follow lore/canon", they pull some dumb bullshit OC shenanigans no one asked for.
Yeah, like that Mortal Kombat movie lol. I think we are gonna see better adaptations in the future. There is that Warhammer show coming out by the actor that likes it (I forget his name but he played Geralt in The Witcher show before he left the project) and I think he'll do a good job.

Fallout was really good too. And of course I liked Cyberpunk Edgerunners.

Heck, I'm complaining about accuracy, but I still even liked the Castlevania Netflix show, so once again I am a hypocrite lol.

I don't think it's all doom and gloom. My generation is starting to find footing in society, and a lot of people my age seem quite passionate in the things they like and believe in. I think the world in general won't be so miserable forever. At least I try to keep that hope.

Nah, I'll box you about that, that game was fire lol.

I joke of course. I'm just one of the Sonic fans that isn't bothered by everything that isn't 3 and Knuckles, or Adventure 2. I like Sonic in general. Fun games.

Mortal Kombat II (2026) is much better film, and Cole is now a side character and not the leading characters. Johnny Cage and Katana are the main leading characters.
Fallout was really good too. And of course I liked Cyberpunk Edgerunners.
That's because the Fallout and Cyberpunk never had a true defining protag, or the character is whoever is playing and making their own character. Not to mention, each IP has multiple story settings or timelines in the same IP, so they can get away with that much more easily.
Heck, I'm complaining about accuracy, but I still even liked the Castlevania Netflix show, so once again I am a hypocrite lol.
Even then, they clearly tired and care with both Castlevania shows. They could only pull from so much story and characters from a franchise, that didn't have much storytelling to begin with, or stuck in the Japanese manuals. Not to mention, Dracula is the villain in nearly every single one of these games. I love both Castlevania shows; especially Nocturne. They at least got creative with these and made spectacular art and storytelling.

Though Season 3 of Castlevania (2017) will always be the weakest and my least favorite. I really don't know what they were doing with that one, and thankfully the original director got dropped due to the sexual harassment allegations. I would not wish the sexual harassment on the victims of course, and heart goes out to the victims as always. I am glad no one has to deal with Warren Ellis's bullshit on any level.

I do hope one more season of Nocturne happens, but I know a lot of the animation staff at Netflix, or that particular sector, got laid off. DMC Netflix is getting a Season 3 finale, and has been officially confirmed. So hopefully Nocturne gets that chance too, since the rating for it are good. The ending it has is conclusive enough, but it's clear they want do one more and complete certain sub-plots/character development.

Agreed, and I am with you on the same thing.

3&K is rad but I agree it's healthier to not care too much.
