Oh boy, in 2027 and 2028 there's gonna be a bloodbath war between Nintendo and Sega Fans....

I actually really like the Sonic movies. I think it was a good choice to loosely adapt the games they're based on while making their own story. That being said I also feel like the people who work on those movies actually have some knowledge of the lore and respect it.

The Mario movies on the other hand represent everything I hate about new kids media. It just serves to be a fast-paced, look-at-the-pretty-colors Sensory Overload fest that for some reason doesn't care to actually adapt anything unless it's for a 5 minute, shallow reference. But I did like The Galaxy Movie moreso than the first movie. Even though they changed Rosalina's story, it at least felt like they tried to tell a story at all. I truly believe that children are smarter than people give them credit for, and it serves as a disservice to kids when we just throw fast paced shit in their faces and let them be for hours on end. You can see the effects of that in broader society these days.

Sorry, didn't mean to get all existential about The Mario Movie, but you see my point.

On the contrary, The Sonic movies represent everything I hate about new kids movies and video game movies. For some reason, I do not think the same way you do for the Mario movies. I think they’re good films, mainly because they’re the most faithful video game movies so far. The Sonic movies sacrifice game accuracy with terrible jokes, filler, dumb retcons, and stuff that didn’t exist in the games. You say that the crew behind the Sonic movies cared? I highly doubt that, if they cared, they would’ve made it an animated movie. Mario movies are not “fun colors and shapes” like you accuse them of being. There’s an actual plot in it. Sorry, but this is what I think.

I ain't pressed man, that's your opinion.

I think people tend to forget that we as humans can agree to disagree. Your opinion won't change mine, and I don't expect my opinion to change yours.

That's what I'm on here for, I want to hear other opinions without it spiraling like on other social media platforms.

Peace, big pimpin, peace lol.

I … don’t imagine there will be any real conflict. My son is a definite Sonic kid, but he likes the Mario movies too, same with my daughters. I think the age of rivalry here died in, like, the 90s. Probably? 🤔
This too, I mean, I can sit here all day, and keep playing into existential dread with this stuff, but if the kids like it? It succeeded in doing what it was made to do.

Me and my homies took my one friends little brother to see Galaxy. It was a fun time just because he was gushing about it the whole time. There's a scene where Mario and Luigi power up and do some cool shit, and all he did was look at me and his brother and say "That was peak." And you know what? He was kinda right.

I got chills watching Sonic 3 myself lol. Autistic Sonic fan since childhood, but not the kind of fan most online are if you know what I mean lol.

Both Sonic and Mario films are great, but the Sonic film is the weaksest and barely feels like a Sonic film. Jim Carrey pretty much saves this movie, along with Ben's performance as Sonic. So let's get our heads out of butts about either "representing everything wrong about kids/game to movie adaptions".

That conversation is saved for the newest Silent Hill film, Minecraft, and Welcome To Racoon City.

I think the problem is that most people forgot the new silent hill film, and the latest released RE film even existed. That’s why there’s more active debates and conflicts over both the Mario and Sonic movies. Plus, i just think the critic reviews for Mario are wildly exaggerated. It wasn’t that bad.

It's not about Sega fans vs Nintendo fans. The Mario movies are just bad movies. The Sonic movies are not.

Not everything is about tribalism. Some things are just bad. The only thing anyone cared about in the second Mario movie is the Fox cameo.

Well, my point was the super fast pace of children's media in general. It just feels like these corporations think kids are stupid and can't sit and take in a piece of media they're really interested in. I miss when cartoons were allowed to be somewhat slow and methodical rather than hyperactive and shallow like a lot of cartoons are today.

Now, that being said it wasn't like my generation (older Gen Z) didn't have junk too. I mean, we had shit like My Gym Partner's a Monkey and Billy and Mandy. But overall cartoons used to be slower paced.

And my point about kids being affected by it is true. There's been a bunch of study lately on the effects of high stimulation media and how it affects kid's developing minds.

Did you see the trailer for the new Resident Evil movie? What's up with Resident Evil getting all these random movies, when Capcom themselves have done fine enough movies themselves. Those CGI movies made by Capcom are fire idk why they don't do one of those for theaters.

The thought of anyone taking a hardline stance on either of these movie franchises is mindboggling. They're dumb family movies based on games with barely consistent lore. Some of you care more about them than even their creators do.
Yeah, like I said, if the kids like it then it's fine enough. I'd probably go watch both even though I'm more into the Sonic ones. I seen the other two Mario movies, why stop now?

I'm terrified of the recent rumor of a Crash Bandicoot movie though I'll admit.

We're doing Crash, too? Kind of surprised that we haven't already, now that I think about it...

the latest released RE film even existed.
You got another one coming out this in September of this year and Street Fighter in the following October. Both are shaping up to look great. Especially Street Fighter. RE 2026 is a more original story that take place in the RE game universe, but at least guy behind is doing something creative with it, while looking to pay more than enough respect for the source material. Actually looks better and legit scary than any of the live-action adaptions.

Then ignore the fuckers like I told you before months ago. Most of them don't count for shit any way, nor the streamers who had a false/made up problems with Galaxy. If people like it, I can live with it, but people need to cut it out with acting like bitches to each other Twitter, go touch grass, and make an actual life worth living. Not constantly screeching bitches in boxstands.

Sonic 3 does slow down, and paces itself. So apparently the director and writers took the criticism to heart.

There are plenty that still do; especially on streaming/tv. Don't let a few loud noises leave you depressed,

I mean, we had shit like My Gym Partner's a Monkey and Billy and Mandy
Gym Partner always sucked, and at least Billy & Mandy knew when to end. How Gym partner got three seasons is beyond me. It is still one of the worst CN shows before CN Real came on board.

Last I checked, that's going to be a TV series. I am not worried nor concerned. I will wait until I see it for myself, and judge if the time comes. Otherwise there is no point being rent free in anyone's head.

They tried to do a show, but it kinda just passed through a test and never got picked up. I didn't really like the pitch myself, idk what it is about it.
Didn't know about that one. That explains the rumor.

A life lesson we should all learn though, is this:

Adaptations Don't Need to be Overly Faithful, They Just Need to be Good

I was more referring to the Mario movies here, but yeah, Sonic 2 was really fast paced compared to the other two, which held it back a bit.

Idk, I know I sound like a dick but I'm not trying to be that way if it seems so. I'm just into the conversation lol.

Yeah, this test pilot is from 2021, but I heard rumors of a Movie and/or a Netflix series. I love Crash so I'll give it a shot, I just hope it's good. Crash is a good pick because of the diversity of characters and ambiguous lore (there still is one timeline Crash 4 never happened lol.)
I'm joking of course but we shall see.

Billy and Mandy is one of my favorites so I'm absolutely a hypocrite. But I hated Gym Partner even when I was a kid while it was airing. Show grossed me out.

I agree with this to a point. Stuff like kids games and Fallout and such, don't need to properly adapt a story because there are multiple stories across different games, so it works well. But something like Resident Evil or Max Payne where they tell a deliberate story throughout the entire series? I'd say they should at least try.

They did, but it wasn't either not enough, or not even trying at all. So I am more than willing to give an original story set in the universe a chance. I know the first live-action RE did the same thing, but it wasn't scary much. Well, by today's standards it is really not scary at all, outside of two scenes.

Max Payne they fucked up so hard, I literally see no point in doing another adaption. We got the games, and Max Payne 3 is a such a good exit for the character, nothing else is needed. Though if you want a good adaption, either just watch the fan film made back in 2002 (or the two others on YT), Street Kings (a hot night in LA and no bullet time though), or Havoc (2025). Though the third option feels more like a Hotline Miami film. In the first half at least and when Walker gets to the club.

The best Resident Evil film ever made is still Dog Soldiers as far as I am concerned.

Your opinion. Not a fact. Also there’s plenty of people, including me who think the Sonic movies are bad. The sonic movies are ruined by bad jokes, bad pacing, subpar by the numbers plot, deviation from the games, filler, and pointless human characters. Legit feels like fanfiction. The only thing people care about the Sonic movies is Jim Carrey and Keanu Reeves, that’s pretty much it. Also Fox wasn’t the only thing people cared about in the second movie, you’re sounding like Twitter.

...and it butchered an endearing story from the game it was supposedly based on.
While I understand that the fans of the game expected that one story from the book I'd argue that adaptions don't have to be 100% like their source material (yes, as great as LotR was it also made changes).

Rosalina should've had more screen time but her background story was not "butchered" just because it's not like the game.

When Sonic games started releasing on Wii, I thought a fundamental part of gaming had died.
Sonic had games on Nintendo consoles before.

Sonic 2 has scenes that dragged out or didn't need to be there. Like the Wedding scene, Sonic alone in the house, and the Siberian Bar scene.
The Wedding yeah but the Siberian bar was funny and reminded me of the one in the SpongeBob movie

Another one of your take that baffles me was "I'm not a guy who is very picky over the technical aspects of a movie, like the writing". That's tantamount to saying "I play RPGs but skip the story". I guess then, if you grab a book to read, you just go look at the pictures, since the writing is so not important to you. Who cares about what the characters say, their motivations, growth, and all that nonsense, uh? Let's not even have dialogue in the first place, since what only matters is if you had "fun" watching the movie.
I'd kinda argue that cinematography is mostly a visual art before anything else. Yes writing can enhance the experience but I think that the photography, camera shots, the pacing, the camera movements and choreography are what makes a movie. We got great movies with a minimal amount of dialogues or a simple plot because they still were a masterpiece of staging and shot. Most of 2001 a Space Odyssey is silent and the majority of the dialogues are from HAL 9000's. Wall-E is considered to be one of the best Pixar movie and doesn't really have a ton of dialogues (even from humans).

I won't make a full history of cinema but this is why it's not theatre play nor a narrated book and I'd say that the rule of "show don't tell" should be followed more often.

I'll mention another one. That isn't a fan film or related at all. But there's a movie that John Travolta was in called I Am Wrath. My grandfather recommended it to me, and I thought it'd be a fun shitty movie for movie night with my homies. Me and my buddy that played Max Payne were freaking the whole time because the movie has insane parallels with Max Payne. Might be worth a checkout. It's not bad lol. I'm definitely gonna check out these movies though. I did watch Hero not too long ago, pretty good.

I saw the trailer, and it has a lot of MP similarities, right down to the look at night minus the snow. If I can find it for cheap at Disc Replay or somewhere else, I will check it out.

ol. I'm definitely gonna check out these movies though.
Havoc (2025) is on Netflix, and if you enjoy it, you can get a DVD or Blu-Ray copy on eBay. You won't find them on Amazon though.

I feel like most Sega fans are Nintendo fans as well nowadays. The rivalry has been over ever since Sonic was added to Smash Bros.

Depending on where you go. On unholy places like Twitter, both fandoms are out for each others blood, frequently mocking/criticizing each others content.

Like I said before, Twitter don't count for shit, and those fools don't represent the actual good, sane, and reasonable fans. Fuck Twitter bitches in general.

Sorry I missed this one.The reason RE gets so many adaptions, because the franchise makes more money than all of their IPs for a long time. The CGI films very in quality, but Death Island is the best and most entertaining. Infinite Darkness is skippable and forgettable.

You're good man. Personally I'd say Death Island was the weakest for me. But that's like saying Silver is worse than Gold. I'd still cash out the silver lol.

Maybe this new movie will be good who knows? I just think with franchises like RE that have insanely interesting lore, they could actually follow the canon for once. But who knows? I'm not a director maybe they see something I don't.
