Oh boy, in 2027 and 2028 there's gonna be a bloodbath war between Nintendo and Sega Fans....

I like them for the games, and with no new mainline Sonic in 5 years or a new mainline Mario in nearly a decade since Odyssey, it's been a pretty dry season for me. I watched the first Sonic and Mario movies, but not enough to say I actually enjoyed them because movies have simply never clicked with me.
Since there are new Sonic fangames for one and Bananza for the other I'm pretty fine.

Shadow Generations and Bowser's Fury were good, but we need something better.

I know both games are different but I remember people complaining about how bad of an addition Bowser's Fury was whereas Shadow Generations was good despite that both are fundamentally add-ons over remasters... Maybe Generations being older made it easier to accept yet I still think Bowser's Fury was still more different from base 3D World than Shadow's story was to Gens.

I saw the first two Sonic movies and as much as I love Sonic, I just can't get into these movies. The whole mix of live action and CGI just feels like a cheap excuse to keep the movie budget low. As much as I love seeing Jim Carey in pretty much any role (and he is great here), I'd much rather have a fully stylized CGI movie in the Sonic world.

The Mario movies aren't masterpieces, but at least they are a visual spectacle and everything going on in the movie is related to the Mario world.

I'm happy for those who find enjoyment of these Sonic movies, I just wish they took place in the Sonic world and not... Montana USA.

When the movie was announced I had flashbacks about the old Smurf and Alvin & the Chipmunks movies that loved to combine LA with CGIs...

I almost wish Sonic was hand drawn, Roger Rabbit style.

I also think that Mario had a great display of sibling relationship that the game never had enough time to showcase.

In fact I kind of regret that the first act in Brooklyn wasn't a full third of the movie but I understand that they had to introduce Mario to the Mushroom Kingdom and Princess Peach.

The biggest crime about the Sonic movie is that we barely knew Longclaw so there's little to no emotional connection with her and we also barely saw Green Hills which is the iconic Sonic place.

Good for you.
I forgot to tell but you said the latest mainline Mario was Odyssey?

Why forgetting about Super Mario Bros. Wonder?

It's called Super Mario Bros so it's a mainline title.

You're good man. Personally I'd say Death Island was the weakest for me. But that's like saying Silver is worse than Gold. I'd still cash out the silver lol.
Death Island is at least entertaining in a stupid and best way possible, similar to the third film where Leon and Chris are pulling off John Wick moves. Infinite Darkness is really boring and even the villain is more forgettable than all of the other CG film villains. The second most boring being the second CG film.
I just think with franchises like RE that have insanely interesting lore, they could actually follow the canon for once.
I would not mind either, but every time they try to "follow lore/canon", they pull some dumb bullshit OC shenanigans no one asked for.

Ironic you say that, as an animated movie is cheaper than all of these films at this point. The budget for these movies keep increasing, and mixing CGI with live-action is already expensive enough as it is. That's why the Knuckles TV show is the worst of the bunch. The title is barely/not involved and we're stuck with Wade. A side character most people don't like or are lukewarm about. All that CGI for a short miniseries is too expensive, but that could have been easily solved by either not doing the show, or making it a shorter mini series by making it an all CGI cartoon. It's what they did with the Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles bonus short on the Sonic 2 (Blu-Ray/DVD).

I would have heavily preferred a 2D animated film, but I am glad these films get better with each entry, and the exces a Paramount are choosing not interfere with the writers or creators visions and lets them trust their audience. The fact humans, other than Tom, Maddie, Eggman, or the one who actually benefit from being there, and don't take up the run time, with the Sonic characters all taking center stage is the best thing, and how it should have been in the first place. They at least realized their screw ups quicker than any of the Bayformer films.

The live-action Sonic films are basically the better versions of that shitty Sonic X anime.

Yet, even the first film is better than either of those film trilogies.

Or better yet, a fully drawn hand animated film.

Brooklyn was as long as it needed to be, and I am glad they got to Mushroom Kingdom as soon as they did.
