I get what that pic tries to say and it’s true to an extent (mainly how they blend together easily) but it just reeks of cynical /co/ energy of someone who forgets that they’re not the target audience (because of their age more than anything).
My favorite modern kids cartoon that I think does everything right is Hilda. I wish that show existed when I was 9 so hard.
Other than that I think Regular Show is probably the funniest one of the last decade-ish. It was just a goofy good time.
Modern kids cartoons do the adventure part good, and they’re better at educating while still providing kids with excitement, which I think is a good thing.
But I personally prefer the highly experimental and chaotic age of the late 90s/very early 00s personally. Not all of it was good at all, but it was really varied.
thanks for posting. i didn't notice the terrible grammar in my post. i meant to type: "most cartoons made today are generic and cookie cutter."
i had to reread the first sentence about three times and look at the picture each time. i think someone needs to pay attention to when they are using grey scale colors. that barely looks like she has a skin tone. i did better in the first chapter of a comic that i uploaded on deviantart, done in pencil and ink.
Milk and sugar are necessary for masala chai. It's meant to be made in latte form. My point is with understanding the purpose of the tea rather than just making it the same way every time. Ceremony-grade matcha is meant to be made with nothing but hot water, as it is the filet minon of tea (such high quality that adding anything more will only degrade it).
I drink coffee more often too, but coffee is less delicate than tea and thus can usually be made however you like without messing it up.
Agreed but in the other hand I am annoyed that some individuals are also taking transports and getting squeezed when there's a lot of people. Also I won't talk about hygiene but I feel irritated by the slimy texture of warm metal bars.
It's mainly during rush hour and major events that trains get packed. Even then, it usually isn't too bad as long as the city isn't over capacity at the moment (again, special events mess it up). Hygiene is occasionally an issue, but most people do well enough. And you don't have to hold the metal bar; take a seat, lean on a wall, or put an arm around a pillar.
That is the common definition of it. But it's worth noting that a lot of good animation came out of that era as well: Don Bluth Studios, Rankin Bass, Studio TopCraft, Ralph Bakshi, and others were creating the works that led us to the 90s animation renaissance.

I just think it’s an important distinction to make, especially when critiquing children’s media. Because if someone isn’t the target audience, it means that the thing wasn’t aimed for them to begin with, so their thoughts generally matter less.
It means them liking the thing is actually an exception, which is fine, but kids cartoons naturally aren’t designed for us adults firsthand, since we’re not the generation of kids the show is aiming to please.

i think this quote helps back up your argument.
"A children's story that can be enjoyed only by children is not a good children's story in the slightest." —C.S. Lewis
Of course, I’m not disagreeing with you at all, but kids aren’t idiots. My main point wasn’t the demographic thing as much as how every single ”generation” of cartoons has had actual bottom of the barrel dogshit, and medium-defining super hits.
Adults will always dismiss kids cartoons for the dumbest reasons imaginable. People who were adults when EEnE and other cartoons of the time were fresh thought they were brainrot material because it was loud and crude and dismissed it for it. Just like how people later on dismissed Clarence because it had ”le calarts style” or ambiguously brown girl adventure cartoons because they try to both educate and entertain at the same time.

No one watches Laputa Castle in the Sky and goes "you shouldnt say this is amazing, you're not the demographic!" ppl and creators just say it to excuse mediocrity
I didnt say they were idiots but they have no standards so they'll watch anything, quality doesnt matter unless theres something thats really off putting (even then they might still watch)
Sure I dont think everything after 2005 was crap, I mentioned Wonder cause it's a great recent cartoon, Hilda's good too, Over the Garden wall was very good, I loved ok ko, I also like adventure time and steven universe but this is a thread for hot takes so I was talking slack
However there's also a distinct genre of what I call "shonen for pussies" where they're just imitating way better jap shows beat for beat;
I watched all of amphibia and the owl house and netflix she-ra and man, the fact some people grew up with That instead of dragon ball and lupin is saddening
Idk what was educational about those, I never watched toons to be educated
I guess one thats fun while teaching about history is animaniacs and hysteria?
Ed edd n eddy and CN show in general were well liked and had an internet following when they came out (at the time the web was for teens and adults), yeah some ppl mightve dissed it for petty reason but if you look hard enough on the internet you'll find any opinion
I didnt watch clarence so I cant say, but I did get sick of calarts style fast; jesus it went on for 10 years, lots of modern toons looked so *bland*

"A children's story that can be enjoyed only by children is not a good children's story in the slightest." —C.S. Lewis
Lewis is correct but that quote is redundant here.
Kids and normal people like cartoons for what they are, they don’t go on the internet to argue over things that has no bearing on the quality of the cartoon at all, like tearing shows apart because it has ”no waifus” or other meaningless stuff. If you love a show aimed at 7-10 year olds, that’s great! But if you spend your time claiming the show sucks because it doesn’t cater to something completely divorced from that age group and demand it should change to fit that, you’re in the wrong.
I think we’re misunderstanding each other. If it seemed like I was calling you out with my initial post, I apologize because that wasn’t my intention. I just wanted to chime in on the image in particular, it wasn’t directed at you specifically.
Of course there are different genres and different goals. Cartoons from the late 90s had a much larger focus on the craft, and pushing the envelope with what was allowed to show on a kids’ network, which is why they come off as much more experimental and unique, and think it’s pretty unrivaled in general aside from a few outliers.
Being able to ”relate” to characters/stories is a much more important subject now compared to when we were younger, because the world is so much more fragmented, which is why representation in kids shows is a big deal (it was in the 80s too, but didn’t seem to matter as much in the 90s) and kids want to see ordinary people who look like them do extraordinary things. We grew up on a much larger quantity of both genres and shows in general, so we might think stuff like Craig of the Creek looks watered down. I meantioned Clarence because it feels like a ”kinder EEnE”, I thought it was very good.
As I said, I think kids shows daring tackling more serious everyday problems for kids is generally a good thing. But they can also benefit from watching crazy action stuff like Dragon Ball too.
I love children’s media. I work with it. I don’t want to come off as trying to devalue it, so I’m sorry if that’s what my post came off as.

You dont have to apologize over opinions on cartoon dude! Its cool
As for the image I dont think it's criticizing modern toons aimed at 7-10 for having no waifus or gore but for being bland
I dont get what you meant with the bit on relating to characters, if you like the characters you relate to em
Kinder like less slapstick? I guess I can check it out
I guess another hot take (since its popular) is I found Craig of the creek grating at times
It can be fun (anything relared to Kelsey and other kids playing pretend), but the fact they have to stop and do a little spotlight every time there's a character from another nationality was really annoying and boring, it felt like one of those lame PSAs or educational tv from the 80s and 90s, I always hated those as a kid -_-
I thought they went away for good but then Steven Universe brought em back when they did commercials?
They got milions of views but I found em unbearable even if the animation's nice

That was kind of what I meant with the relatable part. Kids like seeing heroes who look like them, and the show teaches the kids that kids can look different. I think that’s good and pretty important, especially since less cartoons are being made so the ones who do need to reach more kids.
Of course as an adult who already know that people look different this can feel like annoying filler, but that’s one of the parts that simply aren’t made for us.
Though the best part is still when it occurs naturally, rather than trying to beat kids over the head with it (which I don’t think Craig does, it merely showcases it)
As for the image and what I meant, it was an overreaction on my part, because pics like those are often paraded around by people who have a disdain for girl protagonists or dark-skinned protagonists, disregarding whether or not the actual content is bland or not (it still very well might be). So I felt the need to apologize because I didn’t want it to look like I implied you were one of those people.

I’m back to loving you again
(Though I don’t really like Batman in general)
Yeah Twelve Forever was cool and had lots of promise. Shame it was cursed (like Clarence) by the creator being a monster.
I have one:
Modern shonen (with a few exceptions) is dogshit. It’s all boring, edgy, hyper violent wish-fulfillment stories with no real depth outside of marketing the character designs to depressed/horny teenagers/young-adults.
Pineapple has every right to be on pizza, just like EVERYthing else your wild imagination could possibly think of putting on it. As with all other dishes it's a matter of preferences. Likes and dislikes. And pizza is literally a dish intended to be a "canvas" for you to put anything you like on it. So why the hell the world has collectively decided that pineapple, of all things, is outlawed, is beyond me.

I dont like how they're realistic, that "gotham" could be any metropolist. Wheres the carhedrals and the rain and the dinginess?
I dont watch a lot of modern jap shows because I like animation that was all done physically with ink paint and pencils, but I do like violent action shows with tits and gore
I really liked 12..
She was a fun, and it was cute how she still wanted to be a kid and hated her crush bc it meant growing up; and she was actually a weirdo unlike Luz who was super tame
The villain was fantastic
I couldve gotten an episode about Emerald & captain harlock lars, one about young amethyst and vidalia, young amethyst and greg, one about healed centipeedle doing something, anything between peridot and amethyst since they never speak to each other again after yellow diamond shows up, how obsidian came to be, the offcolors doing anything but nooo heres's 5 eps on sadie being insecure
In future they only had so many eps, peridot and lapis never speak to each other, and she has to take half an ep to show her new crush or whatever who has 4 lines, wohoo
And why did they make her a singer when she cant sing? In a show filled with good songs

i remember now. i didn't think it was 5 episodes. and i was mad too that they tease us with Lars Calrissian. he had so much swag like Lando.
one or two episodes is fine, but that's like half a season.
it took me a moment to realize that young vidalia was onion's mom. she looks like a sexy version of rosalina.
if it makes you feel a little bit better, fans have make drawings of peridot and lapis hanging out. it's not official stuff, but it is nice to see them hanging out.

*too many still*
Steven U has a problem where they introduce a ton of stuff and like a third of it goes nowhere, the off colors end up doing nothing, I wanted to see how that pearl and that ruby met
She DOES have rosalina hair lol
Id have liked seeing young ame interacting with the people since shes supposed to have a personal connection with earth yet thats barely shown
Also they completly forgot Peedee's supposed to be Steven's only friend his age
It boggles my mind ame and peri never speak again to each other either
Idk how old are you but if you dont know ppl shipoed peridot with lapis even before they ever met, since season 1 LMAO

yeah; pacing is the shows biggest weakness. 11 minute run time to show 22 minute character drama and action. not a good combo.
i don't think they had actual writers in the production staff; that adds problems too.
i forget who that was.
i'm in my 30's, i think. i don't keep track of mundane info like that. i didn't notice the ship art until the show was over, and most of it was peridot lusting after the big ass lapis has. according to the fan art.
