Nintendo suing Palworld

Nintendo have been walking on thin ice with me for awhile now. I couldn't care less about Palworld, but trying to smother it to death because it was a little more of a competitor than they are used to is just vile. Win or lose (I sure fuckin' hope they lose) I can't see myself supporting Nintendo anymore. I'll miss Fire Emblem, but I'm sure, ahem, other means to play any new entries will become available. Double fuck Nintendo for locking away so many good franchises in a vault and oversaturating with their popular franchises. They're like the Disney of video games. Fuck 'em both.

So bit of a late update that honestly looks like even if nintendo wins on the last one, it's a net loss for nintendo.
22 of the 23 patents nintendo made on pokemon against palworld were rejected by USPTO:

Funny thing is, the one that wasn't was specifically involving getting on and off a mount in a specific way, which there are workarounds for.

Let me be clear, nintendo lost on pokeballs, catch mechanic etc, everything but a specific mechanic of getting on and off a mount, even if nintendo wins on that it's unlikely to be enough to shut down palworld.

Yeah the USPTO doesn't joke around with frivolous patent claims. They have to prove it is a technical invention with schematics and code. They can't simply patent vague ideas.

Nice. I'm glad. I think palworld deserves to stay around and this shows that people can take inspiration from the big companies and that sometimes the big companies can't just try to attack them if they do something they find too similar to them.

just covered this in my business law class - this is a form of patent trolling where they attempt to patent things for the purpose of stopping a competitor from gaining too much ground

22 OUT OF 23? Against Suentendo? they will never live that one down XD

Honestly this whole fiasco has irreparably wrecked Nintendo as a company for me as a final straw. The random as hell YouTube takedowns a while back left a bad taste in my mouth, the constant need to shut down tournaments for Smash as well and then Nintendo making subpar games on the switch was next to the brink for me. This just eliminated any faith I had in their brand as a consumer. They won't take this as a way to get better, all they'll try to do is just shut down any competition they see with litigation.

Holy crap @TheSoulWalker, they even shut down Smash tournaments?! Dude, has Miyamoto gone senile or something? I have no problem with complacent corpos bleeding money but yeesh, that's somehow a shock that they went that far. D:

they even shut down Smash tournaments
Not to be the devil's advocate but weren't there dramas with the Smash community around that time?

Also as much as I understand prize money and entrance fees for the room and the staff I feel that when too much money is going around it could be risky.

as well and then Nintendo making subpar games on the Switch.
Weren't they better than what they've made on the Wii U?

It's so stupid. If people enjoy mechanics in PalWorld, Nintendo should be following that example instead of trying to shut it down. It's free research for them.

a man with long hair and a beard is wearing a hat and headphones .

Another New Update I think, Basically what the commentary is saying is that there might be grounds for pocketpair to actually countersue nintendo. I personally dont think that is very likely though

Lmao, i agree but it probably would prevent nintendo from trying again, since now palworld can fight fire with fire.

While I can see some qualities in Palworld I think that there are already too many indie games trying to mimic popular Nintendo IP without actually understanding what made them good to begin with.

That's not really the point here, the point was nintendo shouldn't have been able to file the lawsuit in the first place because in general, pocketpair did nothing wrong in this entire ordeal legally.

The audacity of Nintendo trying to pattern Creature-mounting!
and not just creature ANY object mounting that allows you to travel! ::huhsonic

So nintendo... would you SUE all MMORPGs who have mounts?

From this clip from Castle Super Beast podcast, I learned today that the Pattern for the Eternal Darkness' sanity effects has EXPIRED
