Name an anime which conned you in to watching it.

If watching it blind just out of curiosity counts, then it'd be
Golden Boy
KIdou Senkan Nadesico
Helsing
Wolves Rain
Blue Gender
Gungrave
High Score Girl
Blood+
Most of which turned out as not what I was expecting.

For me, I have to definitely name the Danganronpa anime series, 3 specifically.
I am huge fan of the two games before watching this, and was led to believe I should see it to understand over-all story before going to play Danganronpa V3. Instead, the anime was just mediocre writing and animemes, a convoluted killing game so it could end up in convoluted loophole that "explained" everything and the master mind before it and none of it struck well. Other comments I seen about the series also put down the "3" part of the anime but generally like the "2 prequel" side of the series, though to me it was needless filler with mediocre writing that outright contradicted some of the most important revelations throughout the game. It was just about clear Kazutaka had nothing to do with the writing for the anime series, and if he did, I still would rather claim he had nothing to do with this dud of a thing and overall I would say Danganronpa series is more enjoyable without the anime at all.
Not to mention fast produced TV anime does not do any justice to the stylized art Danganronpa is known for, especially with all the pre-existing characters.

I also watched one episode of the Danganronpa 1 adaptation anime and that also felt like utter robbery of my time and life. There are MANY "Game to anime" adaptations that for some reason feel like they need to keep elements of the game like sound effects of UI pop ups when that is the most asenine thing you can do with an adaptation like this.

Overall, all Danganronpa anime should be avoided and anyone who feels they are essential for full DR experience has significantly lower standards for enjoyable/intelligent writing than I do.

Welcome to the NHK. Literally every board I go on have nothing but praises of the show, especially in the hikki threads. Me being part of that group decided to give it a shot, it sucked so much. I got nothing from the show other than pure hatred for the mc that bitches and moans for the easy ass life that he has. Literally all of his problems are handed answers but he goes 'nah I'm good'. I found him to be inconsistent too, he's a shut in but doesn't know what eroge or comiket is???

That is how it is though. The show was made in 2000's, and not every hikikomori is a nerd, which is kinda how it was. It is not inconsistent, not every antisocial person is a nerd and know what azumanga is. The mentality of hikikomori people... Is like that. The contradiction of easy modern life but mentality in a gutter. Hikky neets are kinda annoying, that keep digging a hole for themselves. That hole that is dug, mentally which becomes easier to dig deeper than get out of is the point of the show. It is frustrating. And it is sadly realistic even today. That is more likely why people like the anime, not because they connect with the character but brutal critique mixed with understanding where the characters are not good. It's been years for me since I watched it and it was not the most special show to me, kinda underwhelming but exploration it goes through for several characters is ok. It is not up to date with modern explosion of shut-in nerds or how hikikomori are in west especially in places with welfare systems. The phenomenom is just that different in past, and in Japan.

I think my disconnect with liking the show was that my experience being a shut-in is completely different from his, to me this dude has an easier time just existing as one. So his problems just end up being so small to me, although that can just be part of the cultural + time difference.

Death Note after hearing so many people rave about it. It's awful.
First half was the original ending where it was supposed to stop. But then they didn't want the bad guy to win so the manga kept going until Light died. True story.

My Hero Academia...

Because everyone was referencing it and making me look like someone's grandpa for not getting said references LOL.
It had a solid start at least.

NEVER give in to the peer pressure with current popular long running Shonen Anime

I'm proud to say I have managed to avoid this anime like the plague despite nobody would shut up about it!

It does jump the shark when it replaced L with someone who is the exact copy of him (like seriously now...?)

Elfen Lied. The opening song is amazing and the first scene is dope. The more I watched the show the less I liked it. Could not stand the character designs either lol.

Honestly, even if Death Note ended with the first half I would have still hated it. The fact that they kept it going with that stupid, bargain brand L just prolonged the suffering. It's an awful anime.
