Name a game that is so loathed by everyone that you actually enjoyed

a lot of the “bad” Sonic games aren’t even that bad. Sonic Heroes is a bit buggy but playable, Shadow’s only real crime are 4/12 levels and slippery control, Sonic 3D Blast straight up isn’t even a bad game at all with its only real crime being the depth perception fucking with certain jumps (Gene Gadget) and looking a bit uglier than the other Sonic games up to that point, and Sonic Adventure is at worst dated.

It's not "loathed" per se, but every time I tell people that Touhou 13 is one of (if not my personal favorite) entries in the series, I get weird looks all around. I don't really understand what makes this one the black sheep of the series, even more so than the versus-style ones. My guess is that it's easier / less competitive than other titles?
Great soundtrack, fun patterns, probably the best visuals in the series, and the game's special mechanic is neat, especially for score runs. At the end of the day, it's STILL Touhou, and STILL tons of fun. What more could you really ask for?

An honorable mention goes out to Brawl (and Sm4sh), for the same reason. Still Smash bros, still fun.

As someone who likes Ten Desires (it is currently the first and only Touhou game I have on Steam), I can kinda see why tbh.

The gimmick is weird and a bit obtuse to use, half of the music is definitely weaker than any other game, and the characters and story are a bit more forgettable compared to other games. It’s a roster where you’ll remember the designs but not really the characters themselves. It’s a solid game, but it’d never really be anyone’s first choice for a Touhou game. Never thought that it’d be the black sheep though, I was always convinced it was Phantasmagoria of Flower View that was the most hated in general, well before Unfinished Dream of All Ghost showed up and took that title running.

Also Yuyuko being a Stage 1 boss no matter the context will always be a weird choice. Me hating Ghost Lead doesn’t help.

Ar Tonelico Qoga
The Weakest game within Gust Backlog until Atelier Yumia
I love how the story play out throughout the game. It's may be the weakest within the Ar Tonelico Trilogy but I enjoyed playing it despite it's flaws.

I avoided Operation Raccoon City for years because I only ever heard bad things about it. A few years ago I picked it up for dirt cheap and had a blast with it. I think this game's reception is more of a victim of circumstance more than the quality of the game itself. I remember a lot of people being upset with Resident Evil straying further and further away from its horror roots with RE6 so seeing a spin-off that's just more of action just wasn't what people wanted at the time.

Also vanilla Dark Souls 2. I only recently played through this for the first time about a year ago and did not understand why people hated it so much. Then I tried Scholar... This is purely speculation on my part, but I feel like SotFS being the go-to version of DS2 has made this game's reception even worse over the years. It feels like for every good change SotFS makes there's about 2-3 annoying changes that make the game worse and it such a shame.

Banjo Kazooie Nuts n' Bolts is peak once you look past it being nothing like the previous two games. If people stopped being angry about the changes (lot of it is valid don't get me wrong) and instead spent 5 trillion hours making Dr Seuss ass contraptions and dicking around the open worlds like the game wants ya' to, I feel they'd be singin a very different tune lol.

Also if anyone tries tellin' you Final Fight 3 is bad you should always remain at least 5 ft away from them at all times.

The original Hyperdimension Neptunia, specifically the PS3 version. Absolutely fantastic game and the battle system is unique and creative unlike almost any other RPG except for maybe Xenogears. It is the best battle system in the series and the story was the absolute best in the first Neptunia. One of my top 25 games of all time.

Most of the "love" this game had, otherwise exclusive to the PS3, is the awful performance. Compile Heart is bad at creating games that perform well, and sometimes it gets to the point it pisses me off, like Omega Quintet or Megadimension Neptune VII, games that would run easily at stable 60fps on PS4 but for some reason have tons of slowdowns. The issue is that they didn't lock their framerates at 30fps :(

I love Lightning raaaaaaaaaaaaaah
Final Fantasy XIII is for me one of the worst Final Fantasy games ever, and has one of the best OST's ever :D. My favourite is:
I can't count the number of times I've been quietly looking at the screen listening this song without playing :)

I’m the opposite and think 13 seems fine, compared to the more generic and rather boring looking and sounding 12. Haven’t played either yet, and I already know that I’d get 13 before I get 12.

Same on the ost though, one of the best in the series

I will say two games, Castlevania 64 and Smash Brawl.

While Castlevania 64 isn't perfect (especially the magic nitro part) I still think it's the only game that captured as close as possible the classic 3D style, the PS2 games are just hack n slash like the reboot attempt of LoS.

About Smash Brawl is the same, the game is not perfect especially for the physics and tripping (which fortunately can be eliminated with a cheat) but I enjoyed it much more than Melee.

Unironic Tales of The Tempest fan here

The first game of the saga i played (Even before Phantasia or Symphonia), while i finally remembered it's name i looked for it on GameFAQs... and got legitilmally surprised it had a rank so...average and only one green audience review, it's a entry leven game to the saga, and while the plot, NGL is flat, it was still good enough for me to seek for the rest of the series

Also people tends to dismiss the Famicom ports of YS 1 and 2, i never played the original ones so i can't tell what is missing, the games neverless are still good ports

I went into Need for Speed: Carbon with everyone saying that the game was just awful and not worth playing. And while it doesn't reach the soaring heights of 2005's Most Wanted, it's still dripping with atmosphere, is packed with fun courses and retains the series' solid driving mechanics. And even the UI looks sick as hell. Great game, just over-shadowed somewhat.

Been playing this from time to time. It's really cool. ::winkfelix
Has some great mods too though I haven't tried them yet.

People didn't like Carbon? Weird, I loved it and so did everyone else I spoke to at school as a kid.

If you played it, then you know why. It's basically rolleutte the eroge.
Everything is determined by RNG. Combat? Get ready to roll die and hope you land on the correct combination to attack instead of flee. Want to progress the game? Spin the wheel and hope you get there.

Honestly, I play it when I get drunk on Rum and laugh whenever I get a random game over. I have never beat it and replayed it over and over again. Also, there is no save system in the game; Enjoy replaying the wheels of fate to see if you get further this time!

It's a abomination of a system, and it's hilarous.

I like a lot of Army Men games. In fact, I think I like the majority of Army Men games. About the only ones I truly hate are the first Sarge's Heroes and Soldiers of Misfortune. I actually quite enjoy Sarge's Heroes 2 (the PSOne version, never played enough of the PS2 version to have an opinion on it) and Army Men World War: Team Assault. I even like Sarge's War for the same reasons I like Shadow the Hedgehog- they both try to be edgy, and end up hilarious because you can't make a game about plastic army men or gun-toting hedgehogs serious.

I also enjoy PO'ed and Twisted Metal: Small Brawl. PO'ed is sorta jank, but it's premise and enemy designs are great. Twisted Metal: Small Brawl gets a lot of hate from series diehards, but it is not a bad game in the slightest. I think the only reasons people hated it is because it was Twisted Metal for kids, and isn't as fast-paced as Twisted Metal 2.

Just beat this a few days ago and it wasn't near as bad as I've heard. It isn't the best in the series, but it's far above a lot of other JRPG's of the time and had a lot of cool concepts. The generational concept is a pretty cool idea, especially seeing as it came out quite a bit before games with similar concepts like Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War. Though, I'm sure there might be games I don't know of that did it before this one. I'm for sure going to replay it at some point to get the other paths.

I also really enjoy pretty much every 3D Sonic game barring Lost World. They may be a little buggy, but I love replaying them!

people talk about this game like it shot their dog and then I played it and it was a pretty middle of the road or better 3d platformer
Shadow the Hedgehog (GameCube) - Обложки - Gallery - Sonic SCANF
It may had Edge, but damn i would take some edginess right now instead of the rainbows we get nowadays or the brooding but not EDGY protagonists or the silly/quirky ironic jokers that rip off Deadpool but never land anything, man...Jack from Final Fantasy 0 was truly a breath of fresh air.

I don't know about loathed, but people shit on the Hunter: The Reckoning games pretty often and I played the absolute hell out of them, I'm a fan of the TTRPG and loved the games as dumb co-op fun.

Yeah it's a deep shame that they don't really know how to make good games. They should seriously get some help from other developers like ATLUS or even NIS or something because they first Neptunia game with its unique battle system on PS3 really could have been something special.

The story was absolute atrocious, as were the character, but for a game that's so easy to pick up even your friend who never plays games could play it I thought Borderlands 3 was alright.
