Mega Man Megathread

the way capcom treats mega man is a testament as to why copyright shouldn't last more than a handful of years, once companies become big with their cultural contribution they proceed to sit on it for infinity and prevent anybody else from making use of their "ip" while they do fucking nothing with it effectively killing it just so some people who didn't even have a hand in creating something in the first place can continue being obscenely rich, not that it would impact their earning significantly anyways but it's good to highlight the insane amount of greed these people have, this whole situation just creates a lot of stagnation in the creative landscape and it's a shame

i just wanted to bitch about copyright

I need to finish Starforce 2 and then jump to 3, I want to beat both before the legacy collection finally launches, Im really hyped
 
I should do this as well

-I'm currently bingeing BN5DS and Star Force 3 back to back, it's refreshing after leaving BN4 and SF2 midway.
-I'm still stuck on Zero 3. (the sunken library SUCKSSSSSSS UGHRGRH)
-I finally got MM11, it looks and feels really high quality. (the instrumental music is superior, i'm not changing that opinion)
-Idk i'm not liking MMX8 that much idkkkkkk I don't feel motivated to keep going just ehhhh. (it lacks more good level design)
-I'll leave Legends 2 for december, it looks like a cozy game for winter.

I would still think that even independent creators should be allowed to own what they're creating (as long as it's not plagiarism of course).

On the other hand it may explain why remakes are being made: to keep the license and intellectual property of a franchise even if they don't create anything new from it.

A bad one? Everybody knows that Mega Man can't do good stories, except Star Force.
 
A good story doesn't need to be deep.

I like when it's a "show don't tell" kind of narrative. I found it interesting when you heard Protoman's whistling in MM3.
 
Mega Man rules. I've been playing through the collections for the past year and they're super tough but fun and adorable as heck. The Mega Man Legends games are so good, I really hope they bring them back in some way.

lol I'm not a huge fan of the Battle Network style but I love the idea of a Mega Man rpg. If they could just make more Mega Man Legends with rpg stuff, like choices based on stats, that would be amazing.

Lol not quite.... I just meant that Megaman is a platformer before anything else. It's not primarily known for it's role playing games. I think you can't compare the story of an action platformer to a role playing game. They're not like for like.

But even so, I think the platformers (Classic, X and Zero) offer the best of the franchise in terms of overall premise, setting and character design.

Well, the BN franchise was basically trend chasing, take the collectible cards, Y2K internet hype and slap Megaman on top so it can have a chance of selling, in a way it is not Megaman, but since it became huge it definitely is now.

The classic series do deserves s RPG as well, if X Command Mission happened then anything can be done without any roadblocks.

The funny thing is that a lot of people only ever played BN/SF or watched their series and they know Megaman because of the rpgs.

Then enter Bass who stops Zero from finishing the job and manages to fend him off with Treble's help, while claiming that only he has the right to destroy Megaman. Wily watching, not frustrated by the intervention but thanks Bass for the valuable data this battle provided, saying he will combine the strength of all three...

Said prototype ends up as an abandoned project, due to Wily perfecting the real Zero. The abandoned prototype is last seen "asleep" left in the same pose that MM Zero was found in Zero 1.... Not explicitly said but implying this prototype is the physical form of the Zero from those games.

Yes, I really enjoy Mega Man games, I recently finished MMBN2 and it was incredible.

I'm still stuck on the first BN game, but I think near the end of it. Looking forward to the rest if they get better and better.

They do get better to a unreal degree with 2 and 3, 5 and 6 are masterpieces as well.
4 is a mess and you should be aware of it.
