Mega Man Megathread

What do you think about Starforce legacy collection?
I wouldn't had believed that before yesterday since the faith was on the ground, I saw the direct, saw Crapcom throwing more Resident Monster Fighters and I said "MM fans will starve for another decade at this rate smh" and big surprise, some really tasty 15 year old crumbles for next year. :]

It's a crime that this wasn't on the american direct, this is what I wanted so much, I genuinely jumped.
Post automatically merged:

I really want the cut mod card systems from SF3 restored alongside the online battles, those look so fun, I would get the collection on day 1 to start grinding good folders for online play right away.

I guess it's time for me to finally finish the latter half of the Battle Network hexology so I can finally get to Starforce!

Mega Man Zero Timelines #1 Mini-review

Mega Man Zero Timelines #1 cover

If you've read my Archie Mega Man thread, you're probably aware of my opinion of Ian Flynn's writing (hint: it's not good). For that reason, this issue was the one I dreaded most.

It's with great sorrow that I must inform you that Ian Flynn has learned nothing. All the flaws that marred his run of Archie Mega Man—overemphasis on original characters, clunky references and what look like music lyrics, Walls of Text™, perpetuation of common fan misconceptions (in this case, Mega Man Zero taking place in 22XX)—are very much alive and present. The fact that Ian Flynn is even allowed to approach Mega Man again proves that Capcom and Udon either have no standards or simply don't give a shit.

Here are three examples of Ian Flynn being a bad writer.

A Reploid old man shouts 'We can't run and we can't fight... somebody works us a miracle, 'cuz I refuse to die!'A Wall of Text™Sage Harpuia makes a tacky 'fight for everlasting peace' reference

NICE!! I was really awaiting your reactions to this. It sure is… worth a look.

MEET REFERENCES-MAN!
The Ian train of mockery hasn’t stopped on the sonic side of things either, here’s a recent fan-made rewrite of SA1 in Ian’s style. It’s utterly hilarious.

Wow that’s a new low. It’s been so long since I’ve read this that I forgot this detail existed. But yeah I recall this fan consensus running around. It’s very silly.

Comic book industry is actually partially to blame here. It’s really a coin flip when writers are either completely disposable or treated like Japanese mangaka. In this case, Ian gets the latter treatment.

I’ll be 60 by the time I finish reading these bubbles.
While we’re on the topic of poorly narrated lore, it really frustrates me when fans call X a reploid. When Y’know, the term is meant to indicate a replicated android, AKA an android created to replicate X’s body and AI. Light was dead when reploids were created so obviously he could not supervise their creation (hell, X wasn’t meant to be revealed for another hundred years). How tf is X a replica of himself? Although, speaking of Light, I remember a funny inconsistency in the games. Sometimes light capsules are recorded messages (and one where he dressed as Ryu, it’s very adorable) but I think in… X5? Was it? He’s an AI and converses with X/Zero. I don’t care for either approach but that always bugged me.

To be fair, even official sources call X a reploid.

Flynn writing was always like this to be fair, it's just a good enough kind of writer, get's the engine moving but it tends to do these things way too often, even when not under the eyes of Sega.

I really want these comics to be good but there's going to be way too much inconsistency between writing styles for each series.

What truly "amazes" me is that Archie Mega Man was a decade ago. A decade! Most writers tend to improve even a little in that timespan, but not Ian Flynn. His writing has remained the same, with little to no change. It takes talent to be this utterly mediocre.

I would even say that around 2020-22 he was at the worst with these "quirks", when he lands some fire writing it hits hard, meaning that he is totally capable of doing that, but he drowns anything else with these things.

I kind of understand where all of the complaints in the Sonic fandom were coming from. (it got way too toxic but that's besides the point)
