Mega Man Megathread

What do you think about our Lord and Savior Mega Man & Bass?
Honestly i fall for the "I love Bass and i wish they could do more with him" crowd, i LOVED him in that game and his boss fight in 8 was one of the best moments i had playing videogames, learning his pattern was easy and dodging it was pretty fun honestly, i main him in the V-Classes mod for 8-bit Deathmatch.

Honestly the X series from X1 to X4 are my absolute favorites in the X series, in the Classic series that would be 4 to 8, honestly the games from 4 to 6 in the NES are a blast, then 7 on the SNES for what could be my favorite theme (it's Shademan's theme of course, second best the Robot Museum theme), finishing with 8 and it's overall great style on the PS1, currently gonna try Legends so i could join the protest for someday getting Legends 3...

Have you tried the Mega Man Zero games? Also I'm glad you love Mega Man 7 and 8. I feel like those games are underappreciated.

OH believe me, i did, and what can i say, i'm fast! Best boss in 1 was the Elephant Ganesh guy, him and Phantom, currently on 2 like the capture suggests, combos are cool honestly.

playing legends 2 rn. the s rank license almost drove me to insanity. i think it's the hardest content I've encountered in a megaman game that wasn't a self-imposed challenge.

tron's krabbe fight is so good though. the pre-cutscene fight and the fight itself. been doing damageless/buster only runs and genuinely got thrown off my game by fake Roll asking me megaman to buy milk on the way home.

So anyways, it looks frankly terrible. I’ve been pretty iffy about fan remakes for ages and this isn’t winning me over any time soon.

Rockman FC 7&8 are two of the most okay-ish games I ever played. While I obviously don’t dislike Rockman World 2, I fail to see the need for this remake as it’s not exactly benefiting from looking like a mediocre Megaman game.

FC7&8 also recreated parts of Megaman 7&8 in a way that made them frankly terrible to play. It shows the nes games didn’t live and die by their visuals, but by their level designs.
I’ve had sensory issues my whole life as well, a remake that just adds “moar graphiczz” isn’t gonna cut it for me.

I find it difficult to gauge this particular project too. I presumed it’s a proof of concept which does deem the rant somewhat moot, but apparently it’s been production for at least three months which I feel does kinda makes it exit the demo phase a bit and into “I want this a full project now”, if that it is the intention, then I feel even calling this a pre-alpha would be giving it too much praise.

It’s hella impressive he drew the tile set though. Massive respect there.

I find it strange how literally all Battle Network adaptations remove MegaMan being Lan's deceased brother Hub. This is especially ludicrous in the NT Network manga, which features Hub Style but not Hub himself. I can only guess they didn't want to raise too many questions about Yuuichirou's morality.

Sad because that makes such a better story element and is a huge missed opportunity for the fanbase.

I hate BN and I'd even play it if that was what was going on.

You mean other than bastardizing everything about the franchise I've known and loved since childhood?

Huh. I've seen other Mega Man fans feel that way about BN, but I honestly don't get it. I enjoy it as an alternative take on the franchise, much like Mega Man Legends.

It's kinda like Goemon on GBA.

Everything is so needlessly different that the series we all knew and loved becomes unrecognizable.

I was never opposed to the idea of a new battle system to give the game more RPG elements, and while I like the system and the idea itself, I feel it would have been better to have left the Megaman name out of it and produce an entirely new series.

I started to feel the same about Final Fantasy after Square joined up with Enix. Instead of changing the personality and everything about the characters, worlds, and plot we all grew up playing, why not just make a new game/franchise?

To be fair, the whole reason for MMBN's existence was to rejuvenate the Mega Man franchise after it had fallen into a slump. There's no way it could ever be a separate IP.

I think the only slump it ever fell into was Capcom not making the amount of money they wanted out of the franchise. They expected the popularity overseas to match that of Japan, and that expectation was their mistake.

I mean, it's a well-known fact that Mega Man was in dire financial straits in the late '90s, which caused Capcom to slash the budget for Mega Man X5, among other things. Without MMBN and its popularity, the franchise might've died back then.

Yeah. "Cheap" is probably the best way to describe everything about the X5, except the soundtrack.
I dunno, it's pretty lame they cut the unused Duff McWhalen theme in favor of re-using Bubble Crab's.

That's another thing I hated about X5; all the maverick's names were lame and uninspired. Even X6 did way better.

Thas IS pretty lame, but I think the soundtrack as a whole is very well done, with Shining Firefly, Spike Rosered, Dynamo, X vs. Zero, and Zero Stage 2 being my favorites.

I guess I didn't really like any of them but Zero's intro stage theme. Oh and the theme when you're in the stage select after the Eurasia colony gets infected, I think it plays in a stage as well.
