Again, thanks for reminding me Megaman exists. I feel like a kid when I look up cool images of the characters I've forgotten about. What a goober. /affectionate

I love the Complete Works stuff. I feel like it's how I envision everything Megaman when closing my eyes.
Well, at least he's cute.Bass and Shadow, a misunderstood connection
Character comparisons are unavoidable evil. They can be healthy and harmless fun, and it would be naive to assume they’re all bad or they all should be stopped. However this is one example where they can be taken to a silly extreme, and be given completely based on visual bias (they both have a black colour scheme).
It’s more harmful when it’s two popular series with a similarly large cast. Sonic has an ungodly amount of characters, so this was bound to happen. But the problem here stems from two fandoms that don’t really interact much. What’s worse, sonic fans misunderstand their own material alone, so they have no right interpreting other franchises.
But who’s Shadow and why was he created?
So Shadow was made so he’d help cure Maria’s seemingly fatal disease, and eventually rebelled against humans once Gerald (his creator) was being arrested and Maria got caught in the crossfire and died like a bitch.
so anyways, Shadow became means to an end. “Waaahh, humans killed my only family, I’m gonna become so broody and edgy now…”
Except the dumbass forgot that wasn’t what Maria’s dying words was. She wanted him to forgive and protect.
So he was like “oh ok I guess humans are cool now”.
then he fell to the earth and died like a bitch. The end.
No, sadly that’s not where it ends. He survives… unfortunately. Then uhh, he gets amnesia and becomes broody again
Can you already tell that’s zero similarities between him and bass? I don’t even need to explain anything on Bass’s side, the differences here are that self-evident
But anyways…
Then some alien guy comes and says

“So, you’re an alien too, huh?”

Don’t ask where the clip is from. I’m too embarrassed to say where.
Then Shadow goes on this gigantic quest in a game to unlock 10 endings that all led to one ending… somehow (inFamous did this better) and he has ten personalities because sonic loves bloating its cast so much, it created a million versions of one character.
LITERALLY.
After this, shadow starts working for the president (I’m not kidding) and becomes a cop for the government that killed his family (damn I guess he got amnesia again). The end.
True, he also liked stealing candy from a baby.Well, at least he's cute.
I mean, who doesn't? Sounds like free candy to me!True, he also liked stealing candy from a baby.

Ohhhh that one totally slipped my mind. I should’ve mentioned it.Actually, there's one similarity between them, and that's that their personalities change between games.
Yeah, I'm sure everyone thought a sequel was a foregone conclusion.I remember thinking back in '02 after finishing the second game that Legends 3 would be coming out at any moment..![]()
You didn't miss much skipping x7.My Mega Man experience started with the Mega Man X Collection on Gamecube. I started with X1 and I really enjoyed it. Then I've played and beaten X2 and X3, I've at least played X4 and X5, X6... is bogged down by questionable design choices. Then I got the Anniversary Collection which had 1-8 and the 2 Arcade games, and really enjoyed them, and then I had 9 and 10 on Wii, and enjoyed them as well. I've also played and beaten the 5 GB Mega Man games, and I've played Legends 1. I do have X Legacy Collection 2 on Switch, but the only game I've played on it so far is X8, which I find pretty decent, but also really frustrating at points (Dynasty).
I will keep that Legends 2 patch in mind. You didn't miss much skipping x7.
If/when you play Legends 2 I strongly recommend the patched version here, not tried it yet but wish I had played this version, as it improves a very grating section of the game:

Finally don't forget to try the Megaman Zero series. It's one of the reasons (as well as aria of sorrow, and metroid fusion) that I rate the GBA as the best handheld of all time.
I will keep that Legends 2 patch in mind.
Isn't the Zero series the most ball-bustingly hard one, or is that just the first game?
Oh, because I've seen videos from J's Reviews and KNIJohn about how Zero 1 wants you to build up your Cyber Elves to help you out, but then the game punishes you for using the Elves by lowering your rank, which seems counter-productive.
So you either ignore the Rank and use the Cyber Elves... or ignore the Cyber Elves and focus on the Rank. Either way, you're going to end up ignoring one of the game's core mechanics. Granted, I have heard that Inti Creates did improve on that for the sequels.
Yes that's right, but even with that, Megaman Zero 3 is arguably just as hard or harder that Megaman Zero 1, especially if you're going for an S rank.Yes, they improved on this in Mega Man Zero 3 by introducing Satellite Elves that can be used without affecting the rank.
Yeah they're tough, but mastering the levels and bosses was very rewarding. Played on original hardware back in the day, and getting S ranks without the use of cyber elves was quite the challenge. Perhaps just beat the game normally the first time around and, if you liked it enough to replay it, focus on rank. I don't recommend trying to S rank on first run, it'll perhaps ruin the fun. Great games, don't let the difficulty put you off!I will keep that Legends 2 patch in mind.
