Mega Man Megathread

Megaman X8 demake has absolutely awful on my end. I already dislike X8 as a base game and don’t see how this homebrew improves it. I recommend Rock n Roll instead.

Oh? I wonder why, since I didn't like the demake either.

What do you dislike about it? I enjoyed X8 for what it was on release and haven't touched it since.

It’s pretty complicated cuz my issues with an X game can be pretty deep seated and range from “I don’t like this conceptually at all” to “this is just boring”.

And also just general issues with fan remakes or really any kind of remake but basically…

X8 is a game I probably would dislike any version of period. It’s a game that shouldn’t have existed. All of its ideas were completely terrible and it doesn’t matter that you can circumvent some issues like the grind cuz they shouldn’t have been there to begin with.

X8 is interesting in its flaws, it’s interesting that Capcom was so utterly confident in shipping a game with almost zero level design. There’s like only total 3 or 4 stages that aren’t just you going through a glorified obstacle. HOW do you fix that?? You don’t. You just turn it into a generic 2d action game. The bosses in x8 are just nothing special. I’m in favor of remaking bad games but X8 should’ve left as is. The best version of X8 is already the ps2 version because any further changes too would make to X8 just be “adding water to mud”, as we say here.

Also, the SNES X games have had historically terrible fan games across the board. It does not blend itself all that well into fan creations. I loved X2 but i just generally dislike the X games almost entirely. Too much dumb edgelords bring edgy. Even though you could argue it’s non canon, “I fixed myself while I repaired myself” permanently ruined how I view the characters.

Now this is devolving into a tangent but To be completely honest, battlenetwork is superior to X in every way aesthetically speaking. BN is beautiful but X has all these silly renders I wanna punch. I’d punch X7’s Axl if I see him in the street. What a loser.

Ah yeah and I like legends too.

That's an interesting take because I grew up with mostly the X series. Thanks for sharing. What do you think of the zero series?

Off topic but has anyone tried out MaGMML3? Been playing it myself for a couple of days now.

Reminds me that I should get back to playing Rock 'n Roll. Think the last boss I beat was Beetle Lady.

If by "tough" you mean "has a dogshit level design", then you're right.
I dunno, I actually liked Unlimited's levels for the most part (except Rainbow Man's, that stage SUCKED)
Also, I have a love hate relationship with Yoku Man's stage. Never actually beat it and it frustrated me plenty of times, but at the same time I kind of appreciate the absolute insanity of that stage along with the music.

I spoke about it previously, but I think MMU in general suffers from a level design that's more concerned with being "le hardcore" than being fun to engage with.

Just try and tell me that stupid glue gimmick in Glue Man's stage is actually fun.

I didn't mind Glue Man's stage personally. Not my favorite stage in the game but I thought the glue gimmick was interesting at least.
Well, except for Glue Man himself. I remember him being pretty difficult to fight.
Also, fair enough if "hardcore" level design isn't really your thing. That's a personal taste sort of thing. Personally, I did find most of the levels challenging but also pretty satisfying to go through for the most part.

That's not it. My favorite Mega Man game is Mega Man & Bass not in spite, but BECAUSE of its difficulty. The difference is that MM&B was designed by people who knew what they were doing, while MMU weren't.

Either way, I simply disagree that MMU is bad.
But hey, we can at least agree that MM&B is a good game, because MAN do I think that game is overhated honestly.

Anyway, I'm watching MegaMan NT Warrior and I think ProtoMan is cool.

Man they made manga with the og megaman series, megaman x series and even exe hell they even make "adult" megaman manga but no megaman legends
I hope Capcom remember legends exist 🥲

Actually, they made some Mega Man Legends manga and manhua.

How dare you! This is beyond evil! What did X7's Axl-kun ever do to you? He's only a friendly prototype new generation reploid that fights for the hope of all innocent civilian reploids of 21XX!

What the hell is "manhua"?
Manhua are Chinese comics, similar to the Korean manhwa and the Japanese manga.

He's a third-rate bootleg Bass.

On the other hand, could Bass be considered a bootlegged Ballade? They share similar personalities and designs, for that matter. Mega Man IV precedes MM7 in the timeline, if I'm not mistaken.
