Mega Man Megathread

I agree with the MM11 artstyle. It’s clean and slick, the thing that makes me not enjoy it so much are those Viewtiful Joe powers. It interferes with the jump-n-shoot too much for me.
Oh and Megaman sounding like a thirty year old man lol

Personally, after MM9 and MM10 being pseudo-retro retreads, MM11 bringing something new to the table was a breath of fresh air.

I do agree about the voice, though.

Yeah that’s fair.
I admit I haven’t really taken the time to learn it or whatever since I didn’t really like it from the start, so it’s mostly felt cumbersome and spammy since I probably never got the proper hang of it. I guess I prefer it simple lol

X4 or X5 are mid? Are you joking or just have poor taste?
I'd argue that the story for X4 is mid more than the actual gameplay, but X5 has it beat in mediocrity in every way. The one thing it has going for it is the added parts system, and even that gets ruined by the fact you can't get every part in a single playthrough.

They are both artificial humans, they’re both stand-ins for sons, they both want to have real human emotions, hell they both join the circus and get treated like shit. It’s the literal first Astro Boy comic.

Why are you always so seemingly angry and confrontational when people want to talk about Megaman stuff that’s not part of your exact frame of reference? Relax.
It's basically the wet dream of the mad controllers at the top to create "Life" from unnatural means. That way they feel they can appear to equal the Ancient One. Frankenstein, Pinocchio, Wall-E, etc... Hence we have the hope to merge machine with man because machine alone can't become conscious.

Agreed but for games like this I actually expect gameplay to surpass story. X4 has a simple but solid premise and is oozing style.

Plus it had a killer soundtrack. Nothing in Megaman X5 comes close.

And if you ask me..
The song during the X vs Zero fight sucks in comparison to the one in X2. 😅

I'd argue that both intro stage themes are just cheff kiss, that's the only part I genuinely like about X5.

How would we make X6 "better"?
By burning it to the ground and rebuilding it from scratch ofc ::smug

In all seriousness, I feel that the level design is just bs after bs, most ideas in each level could be polished more or just removed like the giant_crusher.jpg, and definitely getting rid of half of the nightmare enemies or just giving them less HP, enough that they could be destroyed with a single swing in the air from the z-saber, this really bothers me a lot.

For one, I'd like to propose a second, endgame Zero Nightmare fight armed with the full set of boss weapons and a few unfair advantages balanced by the other playable hunter joining you in battle.
Properly polish that one boss that everyone says sucks.
Definitely redesign the levels and nightmare enemies a bit.
Go with respawns-if-you-leave or even Jet Force Gemini style rescue system instead of what we have now.
Anything else at all for a boss theme.

Like, if there was a rulebook on how level design should be, X6 would break every single rule ever, I'm not even sure how to begin...

Here's some changes:
-Amazon Area: Pretty fine as is, just make the green insects have less HP and regenerate more slowly and give Yammark some aggressive and fast movement just the way dragonflies actually are.
-Central Museum: No random sub-areas and no flying rocks everywhere, it should be completely redesigned imo and the boss scrapped.
-North Pole: Make the walls climbable and the rocks destructible, avalanches should be quicker, remove the ice blocks and change them for something else, give Wolfang a whole new sprite with better animations, he looks ugly as is.
-Inami Temple: Pretty decent, maybe if the rain didn't remove as much visibility, the boss should be less of a HP sponge with no way to dodge it.
-Recycle Lab: Just redesign it altogether, I won't bother...
-Magma Area: Scrap it entirely and give Heatnix a better setting than a cave, it should be more majestic, any ideas here? (Also, a better sprite)
Laser Institute: Make the lasers to not be damaging, also needs a redesign, Sheldon's fight is pretty good but he could have another resprite as well.
-Weapon Center: They clearly were onto something with this one, or else Ilumina wouldn't be the only thing in a background that they bothered spriting by hand with dedication and having such awesome piece of music, this needs a complete rework and Mijinion should be thrown outside of this realm, ugliest sprite in the whole series BY FAR.

I just gave up on half of them, Gate's lab can burn beyond hell i don't care anymore...

One thing that really bothered me, if memory serves, was that you could reach the teleporter to an alternate boss room route in one of the levels without having the necessary equipment to cross the pits to reach that boss room.
And I think I liked the Museum better than Cyber Peacock's stage.

X4's Cyber Space rewards skill and careful movement to obtain the items, Central Museum is just chaos, if you want to complete one of the armors you can't do nothing about what area you get and just pray that you get the one with the item you want, if you add a thousand rock pngs flying around and another thousand nightmare goons, It's difficult to like for most. ::sadkirby

I mean I haven't experienced it in years and I've only ever played the level once per playthrough. I've never finished so much as the basic set of bosses in 6.

I did the 100% just as any other X game, it's so painful but also fun at the same time, I do get why some people just like this absolute nonsensical chaos, X6 is both broken against the player and to it's favor since the skills and parts are so comically busted, at least it's not boring like half of X5 levels where the only thing to do is wait until something scripted happens.

To be honest the story in a MM game isn't something I really check.

To me it's mostly about a blue robot shooting at things.

Whelp, I got my 3DS working and I literally already have the Legacy Collection installed.

Fate is trying to tell me to play the rest of this series, isn't it?

Honestly in the games I have played the story was basically none-existant. I only know the bits and pieces I do know about the story from other people who are more into the games and know all of the lore/background.

I finished the Second Area of MegaMan NT Warrior, thus completing the entire anime.

I'd say it was worse than the First Area. Despite being only four episodes longer, it had a lot more filler, and the story didn't feel as tight or cohesive. However, the quality of the character writing was similar, and there were some highlights, such as Bass's appearances and the climax of the Gospel arc.

I'm not a big fan of Keiko Nemoto as Bass. Admittedly, I was already prejudiced against her because she replaced Nobuyuki Hiyama as classic Bass's voice in Mega Man X Dive. Nonetheless, I still find her voice unfitting for this version of Bass as well.

Watashi no Heart wo Install is now permanently stuck in my head, and I hate it.

That's about it. I'll watch Axess eventually, but not before going on a short break from anime watching.

is it known which mega man game had the largest budget? for a long time i sort of automatically assumed it was mega man x4, as both the quality and quantity of the animated sequences led me to believe capcom put more resources into mega man x4 compared to titles like x3 or x5
but that is really just guesswork on my part

I don't think so.

That is such a hyper specific question LOL

Interesting question... I don't think this info is publicly available. I'd guess X4 as well for one of the highest budget or maybe Megaman legends. In real money terms of course. If we're talking in nominal terms, it's most likely Megaman 11.
