Description

In 1997 China/Taiwan was blessed with a doom like game called Mars3D! It was an interesting game that used code from both Doom AND Duke Nukem 3D. An interesting feat and one that gave us a pretty good game too! You also get some cutscenes and some stuff you normally couldn't do in Doom and Duke Nukem 3D like talk to NPCs you find in the level. In the few hours of testing I did for this I liked what I saw and will be continuing this this is up!

I decided to upload two versions of this game. One is the DOS version that was translated into English and the other is a source port that was created to touch up the game and make it play more like a modern FPS with WSAD controls, updated visuals, etc. From what I was told the DOS version is pretty buggy and while I didn't run into anything huge in my testing, I could absolutely believe that.

Both versions only have 1 episode to play through but the source port allows you to select the unused 2 extra episodes to play on. These seem to be deathmatch levels that you could select by hosting a server but as of uploading this I wanted to get the single player version of this game going. The Source Port version of the game seems to make these levels actual levels with enemys and all so that's a neat addition for the source port version!

I will look into how to make servers for this game in the future and update this accordingly when I do. It would be fun to have!

Enjoy!

Thx for posting this i enjoyed playing.

However can I ask that we do not package random crap with releases, this sets an unpleasant precedent i don't want to see releases populated with all kinds of garbage that inflate file sizes or are potentially malicious.
That's just something I do for fun. You can delete that folder without touching the video inside and nothing about the main game will be effected at all.

I don't package malicious garbage.

Also that issue isn't something that seemed to happen to me or the 1 tester I had.

Also if you find yourself spinning like a rabid flump when you start a new game disable joystick control

I know very little about this game, but I do know this:
The original MS-DOS CD-ROM release is really freaking prone to crashing.

Hopefully, this translation fixes that instability. If not, I guess there's that source port.
Really? Someone reverse-engineered this?

So apparently this was reverse engineered from the doom engine with some build engine nonsense tossed in.
It's also not a good game.

Civvie11 did a fantastic video about it.
Now that you mention that, I think I remember watching it. Yeah Civvie wasn't too enamored with the game.

Man, id Software & 3D Realms fingerprints and DNA are found in all kinds of places. Shows you the influence they had on the industry (not that it's a bad thing). Nice find, thanks!

Heh, I thought this sounded familiar...

I kinda found it myself. Didn't know he reviewed it!
Doom, Duke Nukem and Predator. Yup, I'm in a very chinese time of my life...

This looks awesome and I love the old 90s fps games. Will try this soon (not home right now). Thank you Alma for sharing, I don't know how you manage to find these things!
