I play MTG casually. Usually, on Areana. I was super hyped for the Final Fantasy sets, so I bought a commander deck and the booster box to build a few standard decks. I’ve been meaning to scope out some the events at my LGS, but i get super shy.

Same, if I had another friend to go with, I'd probably be more confident Nowadays, I have no irl friends that play.

Curious but how do longtime MTG fans feel about the possible influx of players who just got into it recently with the FF tie-in? Or is that a usual occurrence whenever MTG does one of these big franchise tie-ins? I've been MTG-curious for a while and want to give it a shot myself (maybe when I eventually get my hands one of these dang FF starter decks).

I don't know if it is a usual occurrence, I stopped playing before wizards started doing the tie-ins. I think it's cool if it brings in more players, I don't think any player would disagree with that.

you couldn't get any. Hopefully, that demand is due to genuine interest: ff fans that just want to collect and casual players that are also ff fans, and not speculators.

im pretty sure those who bought it for the Square characters arent going to play them game, theyll just put them in a binder and call it a day

It's likely that many will, but I'm sure it will also be a gateway to playing MTG for others. That was undoubtably part of the calculus for Wizards of the Coast when they paid whatever god awful amount of money they did to buy the license to use FF. I'm pretty interested in learning to play, although admittedly part of the allure now is that the cards are FF-themed. But also because I've noticed most card shops have a lot of MTG players who come to play. I learned from Shadowverse that I shouldn't get too deep into a card game unless I can find people to play with lol.

i use to play MTG arena but i gave up on it due to me being a Free to Play Player... hell maybe i should make a different account and see what this final Fanstay MTG is.

Idk. I'm pretty torn on it. It's cool to see stuff I like in the game, and we did get some really cool commanders through Universes Beyond(Magus Lucea Kane from Warhammer 40k, Madison Li from Fallout).

However, broad licensing across a lot of IPs tend to spell the end of whatever it's tied to. They think they can't sell things with their own brand alone, so they branch out.

Doing away with MSRP made it even worse. Now game shops are charging an arm and a leg for some of these commander pre-cons. They know they can because of FOMO. It really sucks. People that don't even play the game are buying up all the popular sets to chase expensive cards. There isn't going to be much left for the long time players if it keeps up.

i looked into this MTG:A and boy.... i forget how to make a good deck... with the cards i have.... they gave me a crap load of cards also for being a new player.... but still i might have to use those starter decks i guess...

It is so broken that it was a party when they entered the game. It's been long time since I don't play MTG, but at that time I saw people with complete decks around this card.

Orim's chant is probably the most brutal to see on a scepter

Isochron Scepter is still used pretty widely in spellslinger decks. Plenty of stuff says 'when you cast or copy'.

Orim's chant is a busted card, it is funny we were talking about fog cards: it is a fog juiced to the max. I would be surprised if they have printed something as powerful O_o
Edit: yes, I know not technically a fog since it doesn't prevent combat damage, but preventing attacks for one W is close enough for me

That Orim's chant art is And yea, I had an aura deck I liked because I liked enchanting my creatures, even though everyone telling me auras are bad . To be fair, yea the creature you are enchanting can get killed in response which is a drawback to running auras. Going through my cards, looks like this was one of the combos.

You keep playing auras and doing stuff which turns reality acid into a vindicate when you bounce it back to your hand I remember really liking cloudstone curio in my aura deck, but can't remember the other synergies

Wow I hadn't considered Cloudstone Curio when I was putting Light Paws together. I could get multiple cast triggers of powerful auras that way >8]

Yup, cloudstone can be lots of fun ^_^ I thought I had 4, but only have 2, maybe lost some I also really like the flavor text: makes the og ravnica printing the best, imo. Also, it is flexible since it is a may ability.

Just started getting back into Magic, played a little last year. Haven't played since the Mirrodin block. Shit has changed so much, but a friend got me an FF MTG booster bundle thing with 9 boosters in it and now I'm over here going crazy trying to buy cards and looking at decks.

Doesn't it make sonic invincible? Why not work in "indestructible" somehow? Also, it goes away, so why not have it have "vanishing"? Did they even play the games!? C'mon wotc R&D, what is this amateur hour for card design?

Not being able to just equip skullclamp to creatures and steam roll with affinity will be very jarring for you, but don't worry, I'm sure the game is still plenty broken nowadays
