is it worth it to emulate the game using the xbox emulator, or buy it from microsoft (I still do have a xbox one, but even then i'm still kinda fuzzy on that too and how that would work), or bite the bullet and try and find a physical copy?

Uhhh
No
I have the actual game itself. Xbox emulation was a headache for me and my friends.

I'm def gonna have a great time finding that and blue dragon then huh? lmao
I just play them on my Xbox via backwards compatibility
I will however warn you to think about how badly you want blue dragon
LO is a fantastic game, but if blue dragon was multiplat , absolutely no one would remember it. It is… very normal. Good game overall but…. So normal. So quaint. If you want it really badly go for it.

interesting. I am more excited to play lo because it is a one of a kind game and blue dragon is good, it's been on my list for a long time. but I will def take your words and heed them, thank you

Yup,that why i was suspicious whenever i saw most younger people in Ytube talking about how they emulated X360 without any problem and played the likes of Lost Odyssey on it,because even on high end PC build in early 2010s till now,it still has perfomance issue on the emulator side.

Last i heard, xenia finally fully emulated it earlier this year.

The game is worth playing OP, but if it's worth buying or not is really up to you.
Blue dragon is also worth playing for what it's worth.

From what I can tell from both Xenia Canary and Stable, its still buggy.
I'm reading people saying they need to skip cutscenes to progress, and just overall all kinds of crashes

Check out the reports for yourself here:
Xenia Stable:
Xenia Canary

Huh, guess i got the wrong info, which is strange because most of them seem to say it's working fine except some shadow issues.

Xbox 360 emulation is still kinda rough and a general pain from what I hear, so getting your own physical copy is probably easiest. It isn't a dirt cheap $5 game anymore but it isn't too expensive either from what I've seen.

No worry,i also was mentioned the period around pre and during 2010s till now which the emulator was still very unstable, that the reason why in late 2000s i just bought an X360(which i also mentioned in other older threads) to play the likes of Blue Dragon,LO and some other

I guess it really depends on peoples hardware and maybe some luck. If you are gonna play it on Linux through proton, and maybe having AMD or Nvidia GPU and how much VRAM your GPU has, and your specific Xenia .ini settings, will all play into which bugs you might encounter.

Some people say it works almost flawlessly, while others need to do workarounds to progress.
So hopefully if you decide to play through the game in Xenia it works fine, but just don't be surprised if you encounter bugs, hope still report them.

Definitely join the Xenia discord if you decide to play it through Xenia, its the best and fastest way to get solutions to any problems you may encounter.

It's not a particularly memorable game for good reason, I found it thoroughly excruciating, unoriginal and just all around dated feeling. But it's worth a look still.

I'd put lost odyssey like this.
The story is amazing albiet odd for a jrpg.
The gameplay is kinda boring imo, good enough but feels like a game that hasn't improved from the 32 bit era of games.
The world is interesting but kinda not used as well as it could be.
The draw of the game is the immortal characters, which is the most unique part of the story and to a extent, the gameplay (they can only be knocked out for a few rounds, not die permanently).

Overall i had more gameplay fun with blue dragon and infinite undescovery on the 360, but lost odyssey's story is one of my favorites just because of how unique it is.

I think Leon got it right on the head about the game. I played and beat it years ago and remember having a good time and enjoying the game, but playing it again in more recent times, It has pretty slow combat overall and lots of random encounters. Its a good game but its a slow grind through it

Well LO best aspect is it story, while the gameplay is average at best, think of the likes of LO as slow burn type of games, some find it enthralling some might not, there a reason lot of people praised the games with slow burn like LO,Disco Elysium or Xenogears disc 2 because it story was great.

Both of these are fantastic descriptions. LO is heavily carried by its FOMO, not that there’s anything inherently wrong with that ofc.

Mmm...
'painful' sounds more like the lesser evil... my condolences.
I knew this before, however, this new perspective on the overall situation is something to think about, because there are suspiciously more ports with Steam, compared to other companies.
the important thing is, there is progress (considering that there were people who fixed sonic 2006).
there is hope, at the least, there is possible to emulate (no pain, no gain) :)

I emulated it on my Steam Deck earlier this year, it ran great. IIRC, there was only one cutscene that froze so I had to skip it(and watched it on YouTube, so not a big deal). I still hope it gets released on Steam someday though.

I have the physical to this game, but admittedly when i saw a sale, i did get this for my xbox account also. Why? less then 8 bucks with dlc at the time.

For me, if you can play on real hardware, you will always have a better time, this is hwy i just finished recapping my Saturn, just to maintain it.

But if emulation is the only way, then go for it, just be sure to note that there will be a learning curve and you may have to tweak it till you get it the way you like it.

(also noting this down as a game to play this year, as i have always owned it, but not had the chance to play it).

I was not a fan of this game. I tried it twice. Both when it was new (rented it) and when it was given out for Games with Gold for free. Just super uninspired and incredibly hard (at least for me) I couldn't get more than 3-4 hours in before turning it off. The Xbox 360 just had bad luck with JRPGs.

The beginning is quite punishing. Did you get stuck at the worms? It gets really easy after getting a full party.

I did the first time around. The second time I got stuck further on. I can't even remember. I'm sure my save is uploaded to the cloud. However, from what I've seen, the general consensus is that the game is sub-par and there are hundreds of better JRPGs out there and it's not worth the time sink.

Kind of, story is one of the greats, it's the gameplay that sucks.

I can totally see where your coming from, and absolutely respect this opinion.

But I don't know, this kind of makes me want to play it more now! As some times sun-par (jank / time wasting) if you are willing and have the time to be patient with it, can be a good thing. This was one of the reasons i like warp titles such as Enemy zero and D if i must be honest, but not for everyone for sure.

The lack of respect for time for me, are the games which draw things out to make you pay to progress, no respect for time, resources or even my mental health imho.
