In a bit of news that I'm sure will rock you to your very core: I was a dumb fucking kid who tried everything to make herself look "cool" or "interesting"... And what better way to increase one's schoolyard status than to casually drop that you had spent the night before performing brain surgery?
Look, I'll own it completely — I was the lamest thing to ever cast a shadow and actually tried this (wanna bet how it landed? Kids can be so cruel... xD), but this game really mesmerized me upon firing it up for the first time.
It just gave a special kind of vibe that you just don't see in games anymore, down to the huge disclaimer stating that this fucking game "is no replacement for actual med school". It almost feels like something Maxis would have put out, with its cutesy graphics, unforgiving difficulty, and extremely niche gameplay formula that would appeal to just a fraction of the public (if that).
As you can imagine, I gave more people traumatic brain injuries here than on any Streets Of Rage or Mortal Kombat, but I enjoyed every second of it.
It's a great game —vastly underrated, even— and I do recommend you play it... Even if just to marvel at the kinds of things that were made into games back when big studios treated creativity and experimentation as something not only encouraged, but aimed for.
