Yo! What are your thoughts on this genre? And what would you define it as?

P.S: There technically is a ""megathread"" for this genre of song, but it's been inactive for a long time and was made by a banned user, so I figured I'd make something new for the sake of discussion.

I wouldn't say it's a genre I look for, but it's definitely a vibe that I dig. It's great background music for just relaxing to.

Outrun soundtrack is now synth wave? maybe Im too old to understand.. no ... Its mine

I honestly thought the same but apparently Outrun is a subgenre or something
alright.. Ill reluctantly let other genres have it.. but..Ill be watching you bastards... naw.. maybe its the 80's color palette and sounds.. if thats the case you "synth wave" people need to watch an anime film (only like an hour long) called California Crisis... its awesome.. great music like Outrun too..

Outrun also happens to be an alternate name for this aesthethic, and I belive it did come from the game.
mmmm ... ok.. you guys can play with it... check out California Crisis

wait... is Hang On or Space Harrier synth wave?... no.. I guess they have a totally different aesthetic and sound.. even though made by same guy sound wise..

I don't listen as much as before but I still fondly remember when this genre was overwhelmingly prevalent in the 2010's.

I love this synth remix of an old song which sounds even more 80's

So... is this like neoclassical music in some way? People from an era replicating a style from a previous one.

My small complain is that synthwave is trying to picture a cliche (in the literal sense) of the 80's without being as faithful by adding a lot more synth sound than the actual 80's songs had. I don't hate it but I also can hear the difference from genuine 80's music to synthwave. This is also what is happening with 90's DnB compared to modern DnB.
