Aw this reminds me. I used to stay up late in secret when I was young to watch Inuyasha on Adult Swim. Used to always wake up to this. Samurai Champloo goes hard, and so does Inuyasha lol.
During its heyday, the 'Full Metal Panic' license was picked up and recreated for different types of entertainment, but the original source was the novel, which splits into two timelines: one that mixes drama and humor and one that only takes the second element and pushes it to the extreme.
I'm personally fond of both approaches, but today going back to the television series is rather sad, because we're talking about dead and interrupted tracks, both from Gonzo first and Kyoto Animation later, that will never be completed in our lifetime...
Gonzo imploded in the early 2000s due to an excessive production of titles and Kyoto Animation seemed like the newfound light at the end of the tunnel, but in the end they abandoned both this product and later 'Lucky Star' as well.
In the end, shows like 'Haruhi Suzumiya' and 'K-On!' fucked them over for good, because they took them in a direction that makes me not give a damn about them or their productions anymore.
I know that a fourth television series was produced by Xebec in 2018 ('Invisible Victory'), but in the end that initiative died too and several years have passed since then...
