Is PS5 worth buying?

No, it doesn't. It doesn't even have a slot for me to put my dick into.

I mean if it sucked dick then at least it would have one use.

My views on this align with most by the looks of it... I intend to completely skip current gen.

It's rare for me to pick up a game that isn't 6th/7th gen now days so even my ps4 is simply fulfilling the role of a bluray player with netflix.

Adding a Bit of My Own Opinion)
When the PS5 first launched, it was almost impossible to buy: either it was out of stock, or scalpers were selling it at inflated prices. At the time, I decided to go for the Xbox Series S — an affordable next-gen option. Game Pass was a great bonus, and backward compatibility with Xbox 360 games was a pleasant surprise.
Later, when PS5 prices normalized, I bought one along with the PS VR2. To be honest, I didn’t feel any “wow effect” transitioning from the PS4. Yes, the console is powerful and sleek, but I didn’t experience that leap into the future like I did with previous generations.
Now, I play new-gen games on the PS5, but there aren’t many AAA titles that fully unlock the console’s potential. However, PS Plus has made the experience more interesting, and PS VR2 is undeniably impressive. I often use it for Gran Turismo 7 and Pavlov VR, where it truly shines.
My verdict: the PS5 is a great choice for new games and exclusives. The prices are now more reasonable, and the console will remain relevant for at least another 5 years, if not longer. Just look at the PS4 — it launched in 2013 and is still going strong.
If your budget allows, the PS5 is worth it, especially for the new games and subscription services. That said, the Xbox Series S remains a reliable and excellent budget option that I still use regularly.

They kinda shot themselves in the foot by making the ps5pro as expensive as a decent gaming pc.
The only reason I might get one myself is my ps4pro breaking down while I inexplicably have money to burn.

Tbf I think a lot of the hate for the console is overblown and it’s not like the xbox is swimming in noteworthy exclusives either but it’s been a relatively disappointing console generation so far. I think we’re reaching the end sooner than later.

Ultimately, this. I like my PS5 and I don't regret getting the console itself (just what I paid for it, as said elsewhere), but if you have a PS4 Pro it's hard to justify. Demon's Souls is a great remake that will probably never escape the PS5 as Bloodborne didn't for the PS4. People seem to like Astro Bot but it's not my thing. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is coming but it'll probably go to PC later on like the first game did. Not much else to say. x) Now if P.T. worked on the PS5 without modding and jailbreaking, we'd have a different story. But Konami has some sick obsession with smothering it to death.
I guess they took James's actions to heart! 'Eyyyyy!

Rachet and clank ended up on pc, astro bot is almost guaranteed to get a pc release too.
The biggest problem with demon's souls and bloodborne is that both can now be emulated on pc, while the demon's souls remake can't, the original can making it less of a issue as well.

The biggest problem for the ps5 is the price point and the lack of a "need" for it if you have a pc, depending on the switch 2 this may also apply to the switch 2 depending on a few things.

Personally it seems at least right now, that the console era is slowly dying, for good or bad.

Honestly, Most if not all Sony/Microsoft games will almost always get a port to PC. when the System Sales start to Wane. i Honestly think that after the next PS and Xbox Console release. Sony and MS may just get out of the Console Business all together. it makes more Sense from a Profit Standpoint to Sale the games, since PC's and hell even Phones are at the point, Weeks to months later are 10X more powerful than the new System.

Take the PS2, the reason it took so Long to Emulate properly, was lake of PC Power. now you can Emulate, Hell Even the Switch on a 5 yearold Cheap Android.

Would cost less to just make PC and hell even Mobil versions of The games, than plop out a new turd System every 6ish years.

I Say honestly, a PS5 is worth buying, later down the line. when it is fully Jailbroken, just for Emulation purposes. But that's just my Two Cents on it

No the reason the ps2 took so long to emulate was due to the emotion engine chips working in parallel, x86 doesn't work the same way powerpc does and thus this made it so that x86 chips had to essentially do far more work to get it to work than it normally would take, this is obviously no longer a issue but for a time it was a massive problem, this is also why gamecube emulation happened sooner as the gamecube's processor was more mundane even if it was technically more powerful than the ps2.

I think Astro Bot has a 50/50 chance of ending up on the PC. It would follow the current trend of Sony releasing their big games on the PC (a trend I approve of), but at the same time the little bot guy is the closest thing Playstation has as to a mascot and the game itself is super Playstation centric.

But anyway, good points all around. The progress they're making on Bloodborne for the PC has me super fucking hyped. Demon's Souls emulates pretty well and you can bump it up to 60fps and even have an easy to set up custom online server to join! Though there was never more than like 10 people online when I played through DeS on the PC. x)

This probably won't be the most popular opinion, but I welcome the death of consoles. They'll be hard for me to let go of though because consoles have been a major part of my life for, uh, basically all of it. I can see Sony and Microsoft dropping out of the race way before Nintendo though. For better or worse, Nintendo are extremely stubborn and have a large and rabid fanbase. Their brand recognizition is also easily #1 for video games and I doubt any company will ever top it. The name Mario is like the name Superman. You could go to a village in the middle of nowhere with no electric capability and one of the kids would probably be wearing a Mario shirt. Anyway, all that to say is Nintendo will go down fighting and squeeze every last ounce of goodwill they have out of their fans before they give up their cash cow. If they weren't such scumbags that'd be admirable.

In the end, PC being the way to play games is a good thing I feel. A solid gaming PC isn't prohibitly expensive anymore, it's not 1998 where getting games to work on a PC was fucking hell and a lack of exclusives is nothing but a good thing. Though it does have downsides. Technology is shifting to be smaller and portable, the opposite of computer towers. Digital is also the future, which I don't terribly mind as long as Steam doesn't go away suddenly. x) But if it does go away I'll be going full pirate. The most scary prospect is because of said tech getting smaller is that streaming services for games will have a good in and that's not a good thing. Thankfully I think that's awhile off because of latency, but video games becoming Netflix is a really depressing thought. If Steam delists a game at least you still have access to it if you've purchased it. With streaming things will be rotated in and out and removed at a moment's notice. And there won't be any way to archive them either, they will be truly gone.

Please yes. That and Rift Apart were the ONLY ps5 exclusives I craved and I already got RA on my steam deck and beat it in two days hahaha! My friend even played it off my account which was sweet! Was really happy to help him! I’m not against Sony gritty games but I’m exhausted so please no more! I want more cutesy games haha and those are the only big budget Sony titles that fit the bell so this would be a victory for me ✌️

To be honest? Same. Less consoles, more affordable PCs pretty please! Maybe with a Linux OS? I use arch btw (forgive me for the dead joke haha)

Saaaaaame I still collect em haha. Need a famicom currently!

Truer words never been spoken.
mind as long as Steam doesn't go away suddenly. x) But if it does go away I'll be going full pirate.
Steam tends to be my first option, but when Deadpool was discontinued and the CD keys were literally 500 bucks… i just headed over to archive.org lol. Never looked back.
The most scary prospect is because of said tech getting smaller is that streaming services for games will have a good in and that's not a good thing.
Preach 🙏, remember PSnow? Sony’s answer to backwards compatibility? Guess what. It never came here! Neither did Xbox’s cloud gaming nor did ANY cloud gaming services… ever. I’m not against cloud gaming as a concept. I’m simply pointing out the truth that if we went full cloud gaming, then modern gaming in Kuwait will quite literally be impossible. Fullstop.

I welcome the death of consoles, i just don't think it will nessisarily be a good thing, consolidation is dangerous in any field, look at hollywood or the medical industry.
To me, what little good will i had with nintendo died with iwata.

As for pc, as i'm anti-drm i prefer to buy from gog, but i'll buy from steam if the game is unavailable on gog, though i'll usually make cracked backups of my steam games for game preservation reasons.
Streaming will probably become a common thing, but i doubt it will ever get rid of ownership, look at the movie industry, you can still buy dvd's and blu ray's if you want, that said i won't use streaming, i've said multiple times in the past that if streaming became the only way to game, i'd quit modern gaming.

This is coming from a guy who collect physicals so he can play if internet dies, no.

I want more cutesy games haha and those are the only big budget Sony titles that fit the bell so this would be a victory for me ✌️
I like Sony's gritty games, but cutesy would be nice too. I just wish they weren't all platformers. x) Though I know R&C is a shooter too, so I picked it up for cheap.
To be honest? Same. Less consoles, more affordable PCs pretty please! Maybe with a Linux OS? I use arch btw (forgive me for the dead joke haha)
Haha, I can't see Linux getting a big foothold in the market with Microsoft and Apple dominating it so thoroughly, but it does seem to be growing in popularity slowly. I think my boyfriend said the Steam Deck runs on Linux and Valve does other stuff for Linux gaming? It's his OS of choice too.
Saaaaaame I still collect em haha. Need a famicom currently!
Do you mean an actual Famicom or a NES? If the former, can you read/speak Japanese or is it just for collection's sake?
Steam tends to be my first option, but when Deadpool was discontinued and the CD keys were literally 500 bucks… i just headed over to archive.org lol. Never looked back.
Jesus, $500? Fuck me. I never knew about that. Can't blame you for sure. x)

Hahaha, I actually didn't remember PS Now until you just mentioned it. x) I did have a free trial and gave it a shot, but it wasn't for me. At least it's still around as part of PS Plus, unlike the joke called the Google Stadia. It's a damned shame that you guys do not even have the option for it. Is it licensing stuff or internet speed stuff or something else?

Hmm, yeah you make a good point with consolidation. I don't have anything to say against that, I hadn't thought about it. Agreed on Iwata though. Such a damned shame...

I totally can't blame you for being anti-DRM. It doesn't bother me that much unless it's double DRM, like Steam with the infamous Denuvo tacked on. I do my best to strip that shit out if I can. But yeah, physical ownership will never fully go away. There WILL be people who'll be buried with their Hyperdimension Neptunia collection. I'm with you on the streaming front though. For many reasons. Good thing there's enough old games that we'll never run out of shit before we expire. x)

Well Yes But Actually No GIF by walter_

A famicom “mini”. Y’know. But modded. It’s wireless. Nihongo? Doshitano? Ie, ie. I don’t need it. I only wanna play mega man because…. I have problems.

(Slightly ashamed to admit this gif I created solely for this witty response took me an hour and it’s not even good looking)
And just like that, you have my attention.

Absolutely no. Like, I got mine on release because I need to have the newest hardware, and sure I HAVE had my fun with the few exclusives it does have like Spider-Man and Returnal - the latter of which makes genious use of the haptic feedback - but aside from those few, none of which I would even call killer apps, it ain't worth wasting money on if you already have any version of the PS4, as most games still release crossgen.

Yes, I got one a couple years ago and it gets more use than any other console I have. It's backwards compatible with PS4 games so I don't really use my PS4 anymore.

If it won't set you back financially and there's a decent amount of games you want on it without owning a decent PC, sure. The inclusion of a SSD has really been the biggest upgrade this console generation as I feel like we're practically capped on graphical fidelity.

If you don't have one already, I would honestly just suggest saving up for a gaming PC. The PS5 Pro costing $700 without a disk drive is criminal, just set that money aside for a decent gaming PC and maybe get a DualSense if you need a gamepad for PC gaming if you already don't have one. Most PlayStation titles are coming to PC anyways.

I'm going to say, No it's not worth getting. Not the PS4, PS5, PS6 (to likely come), Xbox One, X series or whatever.

These are all effectively PC's with a proprietary OS, and not all that powerful compared to halfway decent computers. Get stuck paying (not buying, because you only get a license/receipt you paid them money and can be revoked any time) at prices they decide rather than the market, no reseller market, no game preservation, nothing. After 3-4 years they turn that part of the market off completely unsupported and 'thanks for all the money' and you gotta re-buy your entire library again if you want it (because no upgrading your game from PS4 to PS5 for free... nope...). You already know Sony will do this, they shut down the PS3 stuff already, and were ready to revoke entire digital libraries of movies and TV shows people bought paid for assuming it would be there for them forever.

At this point i don't suggest getting much of the physical games either for any modern console, since keeping them up and running will only get harder once they stop making them. Unlike say the NES, Megadrive, SNES or the like which are a graphics chip plus a 6502 or a variant of a 16bit chip that doesn't run on specific hardware and can be rebuilt or have parts replaced and cartridges that last 30 years you're talking systems that want to die within a few years (Ring ring of death anyone?) or if something goes wrong like the drive getting damaged/going bad (Original Xbox) you can't replace/modify it, and if you do and go online you can get hit with a ban for 'not having original/signed hardware' like they did for people putting in larger hard drives on the 360.

There's no real backwards compatibility planned unless you go full game-pass and then again you don't own the game you only own access to it (at greatly reduced duration of a month at a time).

All the big companies have embraced (or like Nintendo currently embracing if their advertised positions is anything to go by, and their translations getting borked) DEI and all that BS so best to not give them a dime and let them starve a couple years until they turn around and listen to their players/customers.

ONE GAME I DONT KNOW WHY.

I'm dead Lmao! I have a ps4 but only bought it for like two or three games, one being Gundam Breaker 3 because I didn't have a vita at the time. After that I didnt really think about buying a PS5

I used to hold out on PC gaming because a console was a cheaper alternative, but that is no longer the case - $700 will get you a decent mid-spec rig, and looking right now I see a few PCs for $999 with a GTX 4060
