In light of somewhat recent events, and the toxic direction many others forums have gone, may I suggest altering rule #3 slightly?

Basically any & all talk of "LGBTQ+" topics of any stripe (including "gender reassignment" and "transphobia") are effectively a violation of rule #4... as the whole topic is by definition a "political [...] movement [...] regardless of intent."

Look... I, and I'm pretty sure most of us here, really don't care about what consenting adults do in the privacy of their own bedroom(s). But to raise any of said topics in open discussion is not only a rather explicit political statement per se, but it's also one that puts the majority of others in a bit of an uncomfortable double-bind. Because on one hand, if it goes unchallenged, then it is given an implicit license to run rampant. But on the other hand, if something IS said in disagreement, then it instantly invites the accusation of "transphobia" (which I think is a total misnomer, but I digress), etc..

Therefore, as an appeal to the very sane policy of keeping politics out our Retro Gaming forum, I'm putting forth a motion for the Mods to affirmatively BAN any & all talk of "LGBTQ+" and any talk of "trans-" ideology writ large to the same standard as any other political/religious discussions..

and I don't want to see that stuff anymore than you (or I for that matter) would want to see passages from various religious texts being posted..
If discussion of LGBTQ+ themes or religious themes are relevant to the piece of media in question, then they should absolutely be discussed as long as it's civilized. Being on topic isn't the same thing as pushing an agenda in someone's face.

I'm gonna step away from this thread for a while. @Aldia and @Metroid_Hybrid I can't tell you two what to do, but you two should probably step away for a bit too and take a breather. I can practically see your profile pictures staring daggers at each other on my screen, and I don't even know if Metroids have eyes.

Why should contemporary sexual politics invade everything?
Why stop at sexual politics? Why not all politics as a whole? Hell we should ban anyone talking about M rated games since it was political during Night Trap and MK, We also cant discuss any Age of series, Deus Ex, GTA even stuff like Gran Turismo since the cars manufactures are political right?

Will do.
Thanks for the concern.

50 years ago "queer" just meant "unusual" or "bizarre." 20~30 years ago, it was a "homophobic" slur. Nowadays it's political statement..
Queer people do not exist solely as political figureheads... I think you might need to reflect on why you think that way. It's kinda insulting the way you're speaking about it.

You really do have hatred in your heart..
Can't we just keep contemporary sexual politics out of forum called:
Oh brother...

That's a silly Slippery Slope, and you know it..

It's a topic that has been shoved in people's faces Ad Nauseam for the past 10+ years. A breather would be nice..
Oh brother...
Pearl-clutching is not an argument..

what the fuck? seriously. what. the. fuck. on pride month and all. this shouldnt be a discussion whatsoever, pride isnt political. you should feel ashamed for posting this.

You are literally asking for a rule change that'll be a slippery slope, why not add some more grease. Screw it. (lol)

I don't think you should be banned or anything, but if a non-controversial mention of a gay or trans person/character upsets you, then I believe that would make you some flavor of homophobic. I'm used to this treatment gaming spaces, and you're probably in the majority, but it's frustrating running into it time and time again.

I doubt you can, but imagine being in my shoes. Bisexual, and completely disinterested in any political narrative attached. Yet someone who could easily ignore a conversation about queerness on here thinks I should be banned for being bi. All because they're tired of hearing about the gays. That's so frustrating.

Also, I'm not pearl clutching, I was mocking you.

"shoved in people's faces" just say you are homophobic and transphobic. like, just admit it. You say they are shoving it in your face yet you are trying to push your bigoted mindset onto everyone who uses this forum.

The slipperiest of all slopes would be to allow this, and then give staff justification to punish people left and right because "this" is political and "that" is now political too. And I'm saying this as someone who wholly considers them as friends.

And once again, absolutely nothing is being shoved in your face here (unless you mean the recent threads column, but that's a whole other can of worms). You want retro? There's a topic. Arcade? There's a topic. MOBA? There's one too.

People won't stop living their own lives just because the 39 years old adult doesn't like that they do it.

I'm curious how many people have reported me for even starting this topic..::thinking
Insider info here - we have yet to receive a report as of the time of me writing this.

Personally, I think the rules are fine as they are. They are flexible enough to allow discussion but also firm enough to allow us to step in when things get out of hand.

There's nothing wrong with folks being gay or discussing gay characters in a video game. I don't think bringing up one's sexuality really adds anything to the discussion as far as video games are concerned but I'm not going to treat it like some sort of crime because it isn't one.

By the same token, once a discussion starts veering into real life events and politics that have nothing to do with our hobby of choice that's when we can step in and nip it. Being gay is fine. Being a preachy political activist Karen is not.

The balance is just right. RGT is about neither politics nor bigotry. Keep things in moderation and everything will be fine. I understand that this kind of leniency means that sometimes people will say too much and I'm fine with that. I'd rather see people who are a little too enthusiastic and say a bit too much than see people who are too terrified to say anything because they're afraid of the Spanish Inquisition.

1. Be respectful of other people and their opinions.
Unless they somehow go against your own opinions, apparently..
2. Do not harass Users, or encourage others to do so, as this will result in an automatic warning.
I was merely making a suggestion, and have been conducting myself quite respectfully. I can't say the same for most of you..
3. Do not discriminate or attempt to demean anyone on the basis of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage/civil partnership, pregnancy, race, religious beliefs, sex and sexual orientation.
Racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia and religious bigotry of any kind will not be tolerated.
This includes in usernames, avatars and signatures.
I assume most of you would accuse me of this one, but you should look in the mirror..
4. No politics. Avoid referencing political figures, parties, movements and systems of governance, regardless of intent. This extends to posting about ongoing global conflicts.
I'm looking to limit this very thing. But fuck me, right?

Fair enough. I was merely suggesting a small rewording, without actually making any concrete phrasing myself. However, suggesting as much stirred A LOT of hatred in my direction..

I've been called a lot of '-ists' & '-phobes' throughout this thread. Again, most of you need to take a long, hard look in the mirror..

really though, theres no reason for this thread to exist at all, I do think it would do everyone here a favour to have this locked. theres no universe where chatter here will be positive.
