It was simultaneous with the arrival of LCD screens during the 7th generation after all.

I can add the Sinden Lightgun but it's apparently more of a gun with a small camera mounted on it rather than using the light frequency of the screen (but "camgun" sounds less attractive to consumers).

The Wii (and PS Move to a lesser extent) was a nice way to make the rail shooter genre live a few more years before fading completely from home consoles and I'm thankful we got to experience some more games on these.

I'd also argue that it was the "Pokémon" part of the game that was selling it (and how it was less arcade and more family friendly than shooting bad guys in a Time Crisis or House of the Dead).

Pokémon had a weird experimental phase in the 90's and 00's with Hey You Pikachu and some other spin-offs on the GBC/GBA and DS/DSi before slowing down on the 3DS and Wii U...

This video also summarised perfectly the same for shmups
Yeah, I agree with you.

My point being that the N64 COULD do rail shooters and do then well, so the tech was there.

As for that phase... God! Remember Hey You Pikachu? *Shudders*.

Did any console beside ps1 and ps2 hvae light gun after the snes era? And no gun addon for wii does not count.

I've always been intrigued about this on the Xbox but not enough to buy one. It was mainly designed for Silent Scope. But I'm not sure how effective it is in practice though! You can also take it apart so it's a pump action shotgun/pistol so that could be good for House of the Dead III

Watch from about 4 mins 45 secs in

The Xbox also had regular light guns too

That´s cool looks like an alien blaster.

I think Time Crisis 4 had a sort of setup but it was a beautiful mess to setup properly on a modern screen

It was such a hassle to set up and you also had to stand quite far back for it to be accurate. The gun was a really strange design too, it didn't feel comfortable to use and they put the reload/cover button in such a dumbfuck position that didn't feel natural at all and they didn't allow you to redefine it either. At least with the GunCon/G-Con or GunCon 2/G-Con 2 or even loads of third party guns you could plug a controller in to the 2nd Player port and put it on the floor and step on the button to reload/cover.

Or even buy one of these

Watch the video above and see how it transforms into a pump action shotgun/pistol - I bet reloading would be very satisfying!
