This is just a problem with Disney tanking the animation industry, and everyone refused to countenance the fact of adapting something into animation anymore. Sure, the Mario movies were in CGI, fine, but I'm pretty sure I already saw Mario in 3D for the past 25 years so it's less of a spectacle. We are only ever teased with the idea of Mario animation in the commercials for some games, and we had the really cheaply made Super Show (which still was paired with live action segments).
At least the 3D Mario films have a distinct pastel look them, and have a few minor 2D element tricks. If the Sonic films were animated, they would have gone 3D, no different from nearly everything else. I would have been happy with that, but would have preferred 2D on the level of the OVAs or the Sonic CD opening.
That said, the comic is awesome!
No thank you. I was pretty much done with overly dark/grim shooter zombie games by the time
TLOUS came out on PS3. The comic adaption is going to do nothing for me. It's why seeing games like
Oneechanbara Z2 Chaos and
Zombie Army 4 I considered a breath of fresh air.
I always thought the problem with Castlevania and Devil May Cry animations was Adi Shankar (due to some antagonistic remarks he made against fans) but he was the guy that made Dredd. You know, one of the only comic book movies where the actors keep the fucking mask on the entire movie? You know, like the comics, where he never takes it off? And it was fucking awesome.
So really, the problem lies with writer Warren Ellis, who wrote dreck like NeXtwave and The Authority, which are works that respect nothing. He's the kind of guy who looks at a character like Grant Danasty and goes "Ew" and just ignores them outright instead of trying to actually accomplish something witht the world he is given. He's also the kind of hack who's given a gypsy pirate, and instead re-writes Sypha from being an orphan raised by the church and a practitioner of WHITE magic, to being a spunky gypsy who threatens to pee on people like a spoiled child. He's the kind of hack who looks at a series like CASTLEVANIA, where the heroes contantly invoke God and literally pelt monsters with a FUCKING CRUCIFIX, and thinks "Hmm, this sounds like a perfect oppurtunity to express my GOD BAD rhetoric, that's perfectly appropriate for story where my heroes fight vampires! Where's my twinkies, I'm fat! Blegh!"
I am not going to agree with every single change these guys did (more Warren Ellis. I don't like guy, but at least he got kicked out before Season 4 production began). I am not in-depth with every single
Castlevania's character nor backstory, but I enjoy both versions of Sypha, and she did improve as a character not far too long into the second season. She's is one of the most awesome character in the original Netflix series. She get some of the best action sequences; especially by the third and fourth season. She has better
Avatar/LoK action, than nearly anything
Legend of Korra could come up with! The only thing I hate the
Castlevania Netflix, is really just Season 3. Outside of some parts with Issac, it's a waste of everyone's time. Characters included, in-universe.
It's sad Grant could not get adapted, but that was clearly more of budget constraint than any insecurity from Ellis's part. The pilot (which was a movie split into 4 episodes) especially was working on a low budget, and you can tell when you getting the second and third season.
As for Adi Shankar, as much as I like both season of
Netflix DMC (Season 1 is an entertaining 5/10, while Season 2 is a genuine 8/10 for me), he really needs to sit down, and shut the fuck up. He hasn't done anything recently as far as I know, but I stay away from Twitter/Social Media "drama" in general. Adi, sit your ass down, and continue direction awesome action scenes. That is all. I don't need your politics you claim to be an "expert", nor "care about". Seriously though, at least
DMC Netflix has so much better action and animated action scenes than the non-action that mostly went on in
Mad House DMC (2007). It was 12 episode of nothing, and most episodes inconsequential to the overall narrative. Also, Patty is boring and was never needed as a character. She should have been dropped after the first two episodes.
