Game Description:

Hype: The Time Quest is an Action RPG/Action-Adventure video game published by Playmobil Interactive and developed by Ubisoft released on 1999 for Microsoft Windows.

Based on the medieval castle toy series from Playmobil, Hype: The Time Quest is an action game with puzzle-solving and light role-playing elements, similar in style to 3D installments of the Zelda series. Hype primarily fights with close-range weapons, though he can also cast offensive spells in three elemental categories. Hostile areas occupy the largest portion of the game; Hype will explore dungeons, face boss monsters, and will have to hunt for quest items needed to advance the story. Some of the puzzles revolve around time-traveling concept.

King Taskan IV celebrates the end of a civil war. The valiant warrior Hype is given the Sword of Peace for his heroic deeds and his loyalty to the throne. However, a mysterious black knight named Barnak appears and casts a powerful spell on Hype, turning him into a statue and sending him two hundred years into the past. The magician Gogoud brings Hype back to life, and the brave knight has to figure out a way to return to his own time, defeat Barnak, and marry his sweetheart Vibe.

This game was a complete pain to get working in modern Windows and several fixes had to be applied to it. If you're unable to get this post to work no matter how hard you try, you can find the files I used to fix it to work here and the iso of the game for installation here.

To play the game launch from MaiD3Dvr_bleu.exe as the other one just crashes. edit: Actually I've just recently gotten the MaiDFXvr_bleu exe to work too just now for some reason. The game filtering looks sharper through it and it didn't crash. That was weird. I included dgVoodoo with it. Don't change too many of the options in it or you might break it from working. I couldn't get controller support to work even after doing the fixes that was told in the readme from the fix from github. Also, I have no idea how to change resolution since it's supposed to be from the Hype.ini file but changing it does nothing. Setting one in dgVoodoo also does nothing. In order to get the FMVs to work you might need to enable the indeo video codec by typing and entering this in Windows Command-line as admin:

regsvr32 "%WINDIR%\SysWOW64\ir50_32.dll"

If you're using a 32bit version of Windows replace SysWOW64 with System32 in that line.

This game was uploaded since someone in the comments mentioned it and I felt like obliging them (aren't I nice? lol)

Also isn't comparing this game to Zelda a bit of a stretch? I mean fundamentally? I guess

I love this game.
Did you know it has a 60fps and 16:9 patch? By default it runs at 48 FPS

MY HYPE LEVELS CANT COMPREHEND WHAT MY EYES WITNESSED AND MUST CLEARLY STATE :

WHERES MAHVEL , CAPCOM ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

The only way you would think this game is Zelda like would be if you took LSD while playing it after you watched someone do a whole Zelda Ocarina of Time playthrough on YouTube and you're trippin' ballz while that playthrough is still fresh in your mind. This game has tank controls, like wut?
... But it IS a Zelda-like. You have adventure, puzzle, story, exploration, fight the inspiration of UbiSoft was quite clear at the time and the game obviously began before Ocarina of Time was out. ( And Ocarina of Time is way better )

I loved that game as a child ! But yeah, i was coming from Tomb Raider so the tank control didn't bother me too much ah ah.

Soooo getting to play this on a Steam Deck is out of the question?...
If either dgVoodoo or nGlide can work with Steam Deck then you could probably get it to run, but I don't know since I don't own a Steam Deck. Maybe you wouldn't even need those on Steam Deck if you installed it using that Proton thing or whatever it was on Steam Deck people use to install and run Windows applications. I dunno how well Proton works with old apps like this

That sure is a bold claim on the box

Man, I can't thank you enough! It was pretty obvious that getting the game to work would be a pain because of compatibility issues, but thanks to you, I'll be able to play a hidden gem from Ubisoft again (even though the platforming hasn't aged that well because the tank-like controls aren't suited to it) 👍👍

Voy a asumir que esta versión es mejor que la de PS2 jajaja
No man, the PS2 version isn't bad either. It's a shame the graphics haven't improved, but it's still a decent game, especially if you get used to the controls, which aren't that great.

Speaking of old pc games, have you ever heard of "Hundred Swords"? I still own my old physical copy, never been able to beat the last mission but I kept it for nostalgia. It's real-time strategy and a nice anime graphic: you have many leaders and you manage resources and buildings on the field to defeat enemies, a bit like "Heroes of Mana" for ds.
I'm not asking for the upload, I mention it should you or someone else be interested in see what it is.

Also, if I remember correctly, it was a Dreamcast release in Jap, and then it got an English release for pc.

oh oh I remember this game.
It's pretty light compared the RTS of its time but had a good time playing this way back then, the path finder was very bad though, units got stuck constantly.

Not real Playmobil if they can move their legs independently or even bend a knee. Not enough dedication to the source material i fear!

Man... this looks cute and I have nostalgia for games from this era... but I just don't know if I want to put up with the hassle of trying to get it to work on modern Windows. Such a pain.
Actually you don't have to do anything but launch it from the exe file. The hard work of setting it up and installing was done by me beforehand. Just extract and enjoy (after crossing your fingers first lol)

Man we used to play this so much as kids, its such a throwback.

I think the other exe might have worked because I had nGlide installed and configured. You can get it from that link and make the options look like this in the configurator. Except if you can't use Vulkan pick DirectX in it instead
