Hot takes

Final Fantasy XIV isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. The new player experience is smelly, the server system is clunkier than other MMOs, you can’t move while casting, and, from what my FFXIV-addicted friends have said, the game needs 100 hours before it gets good.
I think that the MMO Final Fantasy games shouldn't have been numbered in the first place, XI and XIV are almost like spin-offs... Same with DQX.

The MMORPG genre has stagnated for decades because of many thinking that a MMO should be like WoW or else it wouldn't work...

The idea of a persistent world and being able to talk to many players as a server can hold is great on paper but the genre is predatory in the sense that it requires a lot of time to grind a single character and that you're forced to subscribe (or for f2p ones you'd be extremely limited in your actions). Furthermore this is also the kind of game you can barely go far outside of a guild so it means you will have to follow a schedule and hope you'd get well with people.

MMOs should've been the ultimate game genre when you think about it yet even online video games have slowly shifted to a game-based system (like multiplayer FPS, Battle Royales, MOBAs and Fighting Games) for over a decade and I cannot blame people for wanting short sessions instead of spending hours in a MMO for the evening.

MMOs in general I saw no appeal to me. I want play and keep my game usually. I always thought the subscription service as a scam, even as a pre-teen.

To be fair, there’s quite a few MMO’s that you don’t need to pay a subscription for. Guild Wars 2, Elder Scrolls Online, and Black Desert to name some.

Some of those I was aware of, but still not interested. I didn't even want to touch ESO, even for free.

There was only one MMO that I actually liked, GunZ: The Duel, I don't have any hot takes about this game but I'd like to hear if anyone does.
Gunz was so good. It's on steam off and on beta testing for a release but it's just not the same as back in the day

I played FF11 Online on a PS2. Wild to think about. I also think FF14 is not what it's cracked up to be, but that it used to be. It was especially good at Heavensward, stumbled at Stormblood, had a brief resurgence with Shadowbringers, and has been absolute crap since then as the lead guy over it tripled down on job homogenization and excessive streamlining.

Don't know if it counts as a hot take but if you were into PvE in that game the best thing that could happen to you was getting grouped with a cheater or two since the game balance had way too much BS in it to try and get you to buy things from the premium currency store.

At least that's how I remember the game. It's been years since I played.

That sucks to hear, but why steam?
I used to launch it from ijji's website years ago, I still remember the older versions before ijji's corporate aquisition.

Yeah, I remember the cheaters back then, funny enough some of them didn't make themselves immortal, so it was still fub for me because there was still a chance to kill them.

It's been bought out by a third party as far as I know.

Sometimes it's hard to not just tell someone, "this thing you said is indicative of you being a weird asshole, maybe stop being a weird asshole about this thing" because you're trying to be nice about it.

The original creator of something can be just as likely to ruin what made their work good or interesting as a person or business looking to make a crappy or unfaithful adaptation.

When it's really bad, I am not afraid to call someone an asshole and get straight to the point. I have 0 patience with playing the "nice game/card" when a person becomes that insufferable. My older brother even more so, and has even less patience than me.

I prefer Double Dragon 1 NES over both arcade versions of Double Dragon I & II.

There should be more violence, bc peace never works

If a streamer is problematic they should get banned from the platform, as simple as that but doing this would end up in legal troubles.

At least "Johnny Somali" is going to be spending some time doing hard labor in a South Korean prison. So that's something..
When I think of these kind of cancerous ass maggots, I am reminded of an old quote:

"Civilized men are more discourteous than savages, because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing." –Robert E. Howard
