Hot takes

Nintendo should make more games in the N64 style. I want another Zelda game like OoT and MM.
No thanks, regressing back to OoT would mean making a Zelda game that has fundamentally not evolved since 1998. Skyward Sword was already dated game design wise by 2011 (while Skyrim came out the same year).

Basically... an N64 game.
Putting out a N64 game by 2026 would be suicidal commercially.

or PLAY like one

because Wind Waker still follows that formula, so did Twilight Princess.

This^

And so did Skyward Sword. Each game added a new gimmick but we've played OoT since '98 and I think BotW was what we needed for the series to evolve.

Do people really want a new Zelda with a linear progression again?

oh yes! absolutely. i would prefer a zelda game with a linear story. botw was excellent in terms of gameplay, graphics, and load times when walking about. as for the story, it was sub par, and it got worse in totk. a good story makes the player want to continue on far long than they should, like skipping out on sleeping or eating and wanting to see more of what's going to happen. with these two games. i just wanted to explore, and i did story progression to open up more stuff to explore. i stopped to eat meals and sleep while i was first playing the game. i was more engaged in watching pointcrow play the game and see the story stuff than i was myself.

It's Zelda, it's the same shit over and over with different sprinkles. Big bad comes back, you need the help of the 4 dudes, or the 4 giants, or whatever 4 things, get the master stick and defeat Ganon.

And the farm girl, fish girl wants to tickle Link's pants.

Oh that reminds me on the subject of Zelda....

Twilight Princess is imo one of the worst 3D Zeldas I ever played.
Wolf Link disagrees with your opinion.
I'm joking, didn't play it that much.

You’re right.
It’s a good example of that ”it gets good 30 hours in” meme.
And then it just ends.

God-tier Link design though.

haha its fine, I hated the wolf sections personally with a passion, what should have been awesome was incredibly boring, collecting these... tear drop things? every time a transition happened to wolf, not gonna lie i wanted to save the game and immediately quit out for a long while. What a snoozefest and this is just one of many reasons.

YES! oh gosh, i really thought i was so alone on this hot take for sure.
But i totally agree, Link and alot of the artwork is incredible.

Both. To this day people still hold up OoT as what a video game should be, still praise it for what it is, still say it's aged like fine wine, still just loves it to pieces. If Nintendo made another N64 Zelda it's all people would be talking about and hyped for up until release.

Unfortunately I have to agree.

I fell for it like everyone else when it came out because we were so starved after Wind Waker for something like Ocarina... I was sure I was gonna replay it 100 times.
And then when it came time to replay it it's like a veil was lifted: "How come it's so boring? Was it always like this?"

Turns out only the presentation was pretty good, and the dungeons (which is no wonder because it's supposedly a bunch of designs they had left over from the previous game they didn't have time to put in) but the combat was probably the most boring in the whole Zelda series. Which is odd because it's usually not the strongest point in any Zelda but here it's so passive and easy it actually stands out (even with all the extra moves they teach you that you never ever need).

Yes yes yes! Well said, you hit the nail exactly on the head as to why with this statement.

It's weird because the elements are there, more serious tone, visual presentation, the build up prior to release, hype train & trailers etc & like you said there is something about it that feels boring to play at times, even the dungeon design (which admittedly does have some small moments here and there) are just not quite reaching the potential and drag, part of the problem is, i THINK it's try-harding OOT all over the place as well & when it does, i should just... you know be playing OOT. It just feels like a black sheep and I DON'T want to say that, look how cool this is:

It has a massive pacing issue I agree.

Why would you need the story to last 5 hours before finally tackling the first dungeon when in OoT and WW you tackled one by the first?

If something is considered bad but no one complains when it happens then it means its not bad

I didn't like Nier Automata!

Well, it's not that I didn't like it, but I didn't play it for a long time because I thought it was just a game for preteens who thought the main character was hot, but after a video essayist somehow convinced me it was actually one of the deepest games ever written I gave it a shot! It was alright, but then it made me replay the entire story-line as 9S which mostly felt like a waste of time with like 2-3 extra scenes (although I was shocked by watching myself do the options, that was really cool actually). I almost quit for a while but came back and got all the secret endings and stuff, but it wasn't actually as deep as I feel like I was promised it'd be- which left me feeling a little disappointed when all was said and done.
That said it was fine, but I'm probably not gonna go recommending it to all my friends and family any time soon.
