Hot takes

The Indie Market is getting flooded with slop under the "AAA bad indie good" chant that people use to rationalize their game being made like ass, not every indie game maker is Zun, Nomnomnami, Wayforward or Toby fox and not every AAA company is EA people, judge by the game's quality, not for who made it
The "Nintendo/Sega hire this man" type of comments are obnoxious yeah.

Some people unironically claimed that Star Garden was vastly better than Air Riders.

Sure it's a nice Air Ride inspired indie game but that statement may be a bit wrong.

JRPGs have as much "gameplay" as cookie clicker does.

You basically watch game play itself while pretending you are doing something to influence it.

They are closer to para-social visual novels then actual games.
Jrpg is pretty broad. What about stuff like the tales of games with the action aspects or YS, grownlansers strategy gameplay or even fire Emblem. Not to mention harder games like the smt franchise where not paying attention might get you killed in fights you otherwise won before. I honestly can't think of to many jrpgs that are like you described, maybe the early game parts of some final fantasy and dragon quest games.

Final Fantasy 13 is good. Chrono Cross is good.
disagree on the first point ff13-2 and lightning returns are good, ff13 is ok

hard agree on the second point, it gets so much hate for no reason just because it is not more of the same of chrono trigger gameplay wise

I think RetroArch has it's place and is very useful for just being the centre of your emulation, but I've always disliked how it's annoying it is to change settings per emulator, and I've always preferred using standalone emulators to be able to tweak everything to my liking. But that's just me, I wanna hear your opinions about how I'm wrong and stupid
Not a hot take at all. In fact, most of the guys I know who are into emulation absolutely detest Retroarch. I myself cannot stand it and only used it as a frontend for Mednafen, but once I found a better saturn emulator in Ymir, and a better TG16 CD emulator in Geargrafx, I quit Retroarch for good.

The user interface is abysmal. Absolutely abhorrent. I can forgive what they did to the Duckstation creator and look past any other shenanigans, but the GUI? That's where my nerdy rear end draws the line. If I have to fight your GUI to do basic stuff like lining up screenshots and boxart into a list of games, we are done.

I avoided Retroarch for the longest time, mainly because I always preferred standalone emulators, and after dipping my toes into Retroarch, I still do.

I don't know if I'd go as far as to say the interface is terrible, but it certainly isn't winning any awards. Simple features, like an FPS count, being hidden behind layers of menus is just bleh. I do like that the interface is optimized for controllers, though, that's pretty cool. On the other hand, trying to set your inputs is a nightmare that's the one part of the UI I would say is genuinely miserable. I mean, do there really have to be like 80 different menus just to change my buttons? I guess you could say that for the rest of Retroarch, but the controller options were what really stood out to me.

Still, it has its merits. Like many others have said, Retroarch covering blind spots for consoles that don't have the most robust standalone emulators is quite nice. I couldn't be bothered to setup a command line emulator like Mednafen (regardless of how easy it may be) just to emulate Sega Saturn, but with Retroarch, it works like a dream. For other consoles like GameCube, PS1/2, GBA, which have had incredible standalone emulators in development (with much better interfaces might I add), in development for years, I'm more than likely gonna stick with those over Retroarch.

I've only used it with a raspberry pi. It's neat and I like the data/image scraper and having different themes, but it can also be a pain in the ass. For emulating on a PC or Android I can't imagine it being more convenient than just using standalone emulators.

Yu-Gi-Oh is possibly the easiest tcg out there to learn its rules

It's simplified MTG of course.

On the other hand Pendulum is bad imo.

Simplicity is what made YGO good to start up and I really dislike when they add too many gimmicks in them (even modern MTG was too much).

On the other hand the early manga was better.

The gameplay of Tetris is completely unrewarding but the GB rendition of Korobeiniki is timeless.

I don't get what you meant by that.
The gameplay loop of finding patterns to remove rows and continue playing should feel rewarding (and I'm sure for millions of people, it is), but for me I don't get any sense of satisfaction from it.

Metroid Prime 3 is the best Metroid prime by far, Metroid Prime is in second place and the last one is two. You want reasons? I have them.

*clears throat* CHRONO CROSS IS ACTUALLY A DECENT GAME WITH A DECENT STORY , yea i like lynx and i like how complicated the story gets later like of course it's not as straightforward! You are tampering with time........i will always say chrono cross will be a fun ride if you can get past the initial disappointment that's

A: you aren't playing as crono or any of the CT characters you aren't their son or whatever you are just a random guy wearing a bandana going on a date.

B: the lack of combinations yeah i get it's annoying to not do CYCLONE or ultra meta omega double water sword or flaming sword but the gameplay has some things that make up for the lack of combos being able to attach 3 accessories alone is an improvement over 1 accessory.

C: the complete lack of mentioning the characters from other time periods from CT yeah no mention of frog or ayla or robo i get it's annoying and disappointing.....you do get CC version of these tho

My criticism for Chrono cross is the final boss fight is fighting against yourself to not deal a lot of damage seriously despite the game lack of revive and limiting it to just 2 revive spells (at least on a first playthrough) the game got a little easy at the end i beaten the mighty 7th dragon with ease it's supposed to be insanely powerful but where power :/ i didn't even have any rainbow weapons!

I consider that your like and dislike of the game will vary if you can go through its first part and not lose your marbles, the reason why i don't like replaying the game is because that part feels like a race between a rock and a snail

Halo 4 is the best Halo game ever made, besides ODST.

The Tropico series is the best city builder.

Tingle is the best Zelda character.

Speaking of Spyro: I know that the Japanese release has a different camera angle for the Japanese audience.

Goldeneye 007 on the N64 is not a real game?
You did not get what I meant I did not mean games based on movies but games that are more made out of cutscenes than actual gameplay so a game that feels more like a movie than a actual game.

Ah, movie-like games then.

Point 'n Clicks are still interesting to play.
