Does Metroid Prime/2 do that sort of UI and HUD well?
i would say the games do. all of that stuff is supposed to be in Samus' helmet. so she is seeing the info as well, so; it shouldn't be considered immersion breaking.
Well, the UI is literally the helmet which is a genius choice from Retro Studio. Not only that but also very readable.

  • I personally don't like calling A Link to the Past "Zelda 3" simply because, while it's the third entry in the franchise, is not a sequel to Adventure of Link. I don't see anybody calling Link's Awakening (or Ocarina of Time if people only count home console releases as the mainline ones) "Zelda 4".

  • I know that it's mostly older fans using that term since it was teased with this name back when the SNES was coming yet I feel like it's abuse of language. It should've even been called "Zelda 0" if we wanted to count the timeline back then. It's the same issue with PSX for the PS1 when the PSX is a specific PS2 model but I'm also used to that name to make sure I'm talking about the first model of the brand.

  • Also I don't consider Yoshi's Island to be part of the Super Mario Bros series simply because while it's called Super Mario World 2 (despite being a prequel) it's also a game with a different playable character, a different gameplay (yes, it's platforming but not with the same mechanics) and if DKC and Wario Land are seen as separate series then this one as well.

Yooka-Laylee wasn't that bad it's just that people don't know what the hell they want.

The controls worked fine, the levels were gorgeous, the weird burbling noises were a thing in the Banjo series that people wanted YL to emulate in the first place, and while the powerups weren't flashy they weren't bad either. The only thing I can really agree on with commentary about the game is that exiting worlds to expand them is slightly annoying as you can't 100% a world first run but the game was fine people just thought they wanted a new collect-a-thon platformer but when they got one they crashed out.

I agree. Yoshi's Island isn't a Mario game. It's a Yoshi game.

People who disconnect when they're invaded in a Soulslike game are clearly not ready for online gaming and should have every surface in their house covered in foam and bubblewrap.

Mario Land 3 isn't either a Mario Land game, is officially a Wario Land game

GTA V is overhated just bc it isnt as realistic or dark as GTA IV and bc it has an "empty" overworld

No matter how hard the original game was, you still can't make every enemy be as hard as the final boss or every level a Kaizo in your hack and call it difficulty fixing patch

I've never called it that and stopped numbering Zeldas after two. Yet I still to this day see ALttP sometimes get called Zelda 3. I'm glad we stopped numbering Zeldas. Especially with all the timeline stuff. It would get confusing fast.

Older point n' click game puzzles are designed like shit. I've never understood how anyone could figure half of the things in any of them out without some sort of guidance, moon logic indeed.

The only context I could have accepted the name "Zelda 3" would've been when ALTTP was the then-latest entry in the series since it was new and had few entries.

It would've sounded weird if we, counting only the home console as the mainline entries (even if they were canonical), Majora's Mask would've been Zelda 5, Wind Waker Zelda 6, Twilight Princess Zelda 7, Skyward Sword Zelda 8, Breath of the Wild Zelda 9 and finally Tears of the Kingdom Zelda 10.

See how much nonsense that could've been like?

How old btw? Days of the Tentacles still stands well (so was Broken Sword 1) but I may agree about overly obtuse ways to progress like in Monkey Island or DiscWorld.

I do more so mean overly obtuse shit. But I did get stuck in Day of the Tentacle when I first tried it.

Monkey Island and DiscWorld were untranslateable for me back then.

On the other hand DotT is much more fair and permissive so I'd argue that it could be just you not knowing which tool to use correctly than the game being obtuse.

Yes, time travel makes things complicated but it's specifically for item transfer.

I agree about DotT...at least until the beauty contest xD

Can't wait to play Monkey Island.

I think my issue with DotT is it's unclear for a new player like me what needs to go in the time machine and who it goes too.

The game to me at least, doesn't do a good job of communicating that. Though it has been years since I tried to play it.

I finished Day of the Tentacle, Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge, some Sam and Max games, and The Curse of Monkey Island without a guide, You just have to think outside the box and pay attention to little details. I love those games. They still hold up.

I hate Secret of Mana for the SNES. I used to love it before I decided to actually sit down and complete it. I sat there grinding out EVERY SINGLE WEAPON AND SPELL to the max before the emulator crashed and lost about 5 hours of grinding. Only to come find that I basically wasted my time since I guess most players pick a few weapons and spells and run with it. I was just done with it by the end and I never want to play it again.

I was looking forward to Seihken Densetsu 3 but if its anything like the first I'm not wasting my time. Yeah, maybe its all on me but that's what happened and how I feel.

I don't want to sound rude but that's a tiny bit of your fault for not making savestates.

Yes, normally an emulator isn't supposed to crash like that (outside of intentionally making glitches) yet there's always a saying about trying to save as often as possible when playing a RPG.
