Here are my hottakes:
It doesn't make sense to buy a console after the ps3/xbox360 era, the common user hardware became so powerful that most consoles are just pc with private OS and libs and, even so, port for multiple platforms is so common even with exclusives and with the whole piracy going on, it is better to build a pc then buying a console nowadays
People hate the 6th generation of Pokémon because the switch games used the models of the 3ds, but, the models are not ugly for the console they were planned to, 3ds was very weak rendering anything remotely close to game cube graphics, so the games were either chibi models or n64 game style.
Connected with the previous one, people actually love idea behind the DS generation games rather the games itself and the nostalgia tickling your mind, the DS gen games were very limited in terms of choice, the story is blend, Pokémon designs are nice at best and are outrageous at best, ice cream and garbage Pokémon, on unova and just reskin of old designs masked as evolution on sinnoh, WTF?!, a lot of events were soft locked for dumb reasons like "You have to complete the game before two weeks to the white forest/black city be anything, but a complete wasteland" or "you have to attend a very specific event on Japan to be able to see that cutscene or be able to catch some legendary", the 4th gen passing is horrible, most characters are forgettable, the enemy team ideas and design doesn't matter, the all fall into generic 80s cartoon villain type, the human designs, region appearance and pixel art are top tier though.
Fourth, a lot of Nintendo games are slop games with recycled ideas from the same previous games, specially Mario, Pokémon and Zelda.
Sonic game formula just doesn't work in 3d, even the best games are plain, and all the 2ds games fell the same, so it is really a hate or love franchise
Most of the Wii games are either shovelware or games that are so experimental, they feel more like a tech demo or some incompressible mess.
Most modern titles feel more like reskin of the same game then actually different games, specially on the PlayStation
Valve created and established a lot of things people complain about games today like skins, DLCs, gamble, DRM, etc. yet a lot of people praise Gabe as some kind of savior and a lot of his speeches are taken out of context, like his whole take about piracy was part of marketing strategy interview about how his service, Steam, resolved the piracy, but even so, the company is still better than the others.
Games are products made with profit in mind, and the profit of a game is the money used to make another game, if a game company doesn't profit, even if the games are well received, they declare bankruptcy.
Nintendo attack fan games for the same reason they attack Palword, they want to make slop games that are going to be sold as water in a desert and if someone complain about quality, their response is about how their games pushes their abilities to the top, but this speech doesn't resonate well when a game made by a college student or some indie company just proves you wrong and set up the bar higher.
Most horror indie games are either really short games with story that don't have any conclusion or essence to it or a new FNAF wanna be, the first one is kinda of sad because it made the whole PS1 aesthetic feel more like unfinished game demo scenery.
Most indie games are Tumblr inspired content with characters trying too hard to be quirky and adorkable, that they feel more like a pain in the ass, boring, repetitive and unlikeable personalities with ugly repetitive designs.
The whole woke games complaint is based on the fact that most gay characters whole personality is being gay and discriminated, the dark skinned characters whole personality is about being from the hood and being discriminated, even though, some are not even black Americans and the women are basically asshole men with anger issues and long hair and the whole, diversity adaption, just undermines the importance of how these tropes could add to the lore and make it seem like the only way to this type of characters to get the spotlight is either stealing from some white dude or feminine women or being someone unpleasant, men, even the 80s Japanese games were less stereotypical than this, very sad.
A lot of the time grinding in an RPG feels more like trying to elongate the time of gameplay artificially than anything else.
A lot of old games had good ideas, but poor execution, like Sonic R, a sonic game with race mixed with platform sounds like a match made in heaven, but the game design and implementation were so poor it killed this idea.
Donkey Kong arcade is the most influential game of all time, it even resurrected the gaming market from the Atari clash and a lot of game franchises were either made based on some sequence of it, like the Super Mario franchise, or a response from the competitors, like Sonic, or by themselves, like Zelda, and a lot of games mechanics, tropes, ideas were born from that also, like saving, phase-world map system, etc.
Thanks for reading it all, and sorry for its size, I didn't imagine I had so much hot takes, I would love to hear your options on that list, thanks again and bye
