The same games people list of it over and over again are great (even greater if you play the recompiled version of both Majora's Mask and Ocarina, and in the case of M64 play the coop version, it's just so much fun) and aside from some titles like Ganbare Goemon ,Sin and Punishment and those two Castlevanias(i hope a PC recompilation comes for those two, it would prove how good they are), and little few others that don't come into my mind right now, yeah it's not that excellent of a console. The N64 is mid and doesn't have many good games

It's definitely still an unpopular opinion because nostalgia has clouded most people's judgement of the system.I'm surprised that my take wasn't as hot as I expected especially on a retro game forum
If you think Ridge Racer handles like a turd, you should try Racing Lagoon on the PS1, that game is the king of feeling like a turd.i think ridge racer(the entire series) sucks and is vastly overrated, the 90s titles handle like a turd and dont have an understanding on why driving cars is fun in the first place
Racing Lagoon is still one of the best games on the console (the story is incredibly deep and takes a psychological twist) even though the controls take some getting used to. Driving felt like shit until it clicked and I was able to breeze through the whole rest of the game barely hitting barriers. If you think Ridge Racer handles like a turd, you should try Racing Lagoon on the PS1, that game is the king of feeling like a turd.

Banjo-Tooie is okay and I really liked playing it in multiplayer with friends
Its definitely an interesting game, like in terms of stories in racing games, its the pinnacle. But its also very RPG, yes your vehicle starts off weak, but as you grind races you get better and better. But it also has some of the worst driving ever, and its possible that you can just get hit by really lopsided races, and losing sometimes removes parts from your vehicle, causing the vehicle to do even worse, and enter a downward spiral. But i think if its a matter of, racing game vs racing game, Ridge Racer has far better handling, and also much less rage inducing.Racing Lagoon is still one of the best games on the console (the story is incredibly deep and takes a psychological twist) even though the controls take some getting used to. I can't tell, the only ones i have played (64 and the PSP duology) Plays like a charmi think ridge racer(the entire series) sucks and is vastly overrated, the 90s titles handle like a turd and dont have an understanding on why driving cars is fun in the first place(which is to say dynamicism, something these games lack) and in my eyes are easily overshadowed by sega's 90s arcade racing games which have actually aged well due to how well they drive(especially sega rally). the 2000s titles are simply boring to me with the now easy and understandable driving(unlike previously where for the life of me i cant get a consistent drift to work and it feels so weird and on rails) feeling as flat as before but now easier coupled with very boring racing as this series never invested its time in developing actually challenging ai of any sort. i also feel that the presentation(outside of the 1st game) is lame but i feel like thats just because i dont like these games in the first place
I agree on the soundtrack being GOATED , the rebel army theme , the palamecia castle theme , that one boss fight theme , but really all FF games soundtracks are GOATED so...Final Fantasy II is pretty good actually. Sure it has some bugs that allow you to ignore most of the game's systems [taking off all your armor and weapons and punching everything to death] but the systems they introduced are super ahead of their time, the soundtrack is amazing for every system it gets ported to, and the story is fun to follow.
Yeah ridge racer is miles better, rr4 and the psp version are the best handling in the series. 5 is okay, but a little harder to get used to. I loved the aspect of racing lagoon where you can lose parts since it feels more fair instead of you being able to take whatever you want but the enemies can't do anything, I never really spiraled off it because by the point I hit a strong car I knew what other cars I could beat to make up for the lossIts definitely an interesting game, like in terms of stories in racing games, its the pinnacle. I had some bad luck with the random encounters 3 times in a row, where if i beat them it would've been huge, but their cars were so much better, that i just kept losing parts. But the driving in Racing Lagoon is still more realistic than something like Midnight Club 3 DUB Edition.Yeah ridge racer is miles better, rr4 and the psp version are the best handling in the series. 5 is okay, but a little harder to get used to. True that, only played Chain of Memories (TBF a crappy introduction to the saga due to the cards mechanic) and i barely got past the first set of card worldsKingdom Hearts is absolutely mid, and maybe that's being a bit generous even.
What i say might be a hot take, but i think, at least from what i've seen since CDRomance and then this site, that people here have matured to the point that they at least recognize that a good thing can have flaws and still be enjoyable, and that's good. It's definitely still an unpopular opinion because nostalgia has clouded most people's judgement of the system.
The handling is a bit weird at first but when you get it the game together with the presentation is sublimei think ridge racer(the entire series) sucks and is vastly overrated, the 90s titles handle like a turd and dont have an understanding on why driving cars is fun in the first place(which is to say dynamicism, something these games lack) and in my eyes are easily overshadowed by sega's 90s arcade racing games which have actually aged well due to how well they drive(especially sega rally). the 2000s titles are simply boring to me with the now easy and understandable driving(unlike previously where for the life of me i cant get a consistent drift to work and it feels so weird and on rails) feeling as flat as before but now easier coupled with very boring racing as this series never invested its time in developing actually challenging ai of any sort. i also feel that the presentation(outside of the 1st game) is lame but i feel like thats just because i dont like these games in the first place
I dunno, I played both Adventure 1 and 2 last year, and while I had a really good time with A1, A2 was probably one of the worst games I’ve played in many years. It felt worse in just about every way to me.3D Sonic games, at least all the main entries. None of them have bad controls, and especially none of them have a bad camera. My whole life I've heard nothing but shit about Sonic games and there cameras but NONE of them are bad at all. In fact I'd argue they're all quite good. I think the general public see it's a game for kids and turn there brains off because they shouldn't have to try or something. Then get mad when they fumble about and lose and blame anything but themselves. If you give an ounce of real effort to any of these games, the controls and camera work fine and the difficulty is very lax.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not calling them all good. I hate Heroes, Colours and Riders just to name a few. But the Adventure games, Shadow, and Unleashed (the proper version of course) are all bangers and I won't hear a bad word said against them... Ok I'll give you some leeway on Shadow but most of the missions are good. Turning your brain off may work for any game younger than Generations, but they were cooking in the 2000s man. People just suck at a game they've never played and would rather talk shit and write it off than get the hang of it.
As someone who used to be a huge KH fan and still LOVES KH2:FM as the BEST combat KH,lemme tell you some Hot Takes associated with the seriesKingdom Hearts is absolutely mid, and maybe that's being a bit generous even.
