Hot takes

I hate to say it considering both of them are my favorite Nintendo Consoles

Both the Wii and NDS had way too much shovelware, and all the games that are reccomended by everyone and their moms are the only ones that are made with a semblance of love and care

Enix's only good franchise was dragon quest while squaresoft had way more good games (if not franchises)
What other franchises besides DQ did Enix have before the merger?

Speaking of fighting games, I have no idea how this is viewed in the FGC, but I really don't like how they're ALL crossing over with each other nowadays. Ryu's in Smash Brothers, Mai Shiranui's in Street Fighter, Punchbrain McGillicuddy's in Goonblasters 112. It really makes each IP less distinct – now there's not so much a variety of different fighting games as there is this big amorphous blob of fighting game culture that all the characters and worlds co-exist in. (At least in mainstream big-name fighting games.)

Do people like this? What if you only want to play Street Fighter characters in Street Fighter? It all seems a little goofy to me. The fighting game genre just seems to be getting more and more incestuous as time goes on. I like fighting games, but I can't imagine for a second getting into the modern AAA ones.
My Hot Take:
Punchbrain McGillicuddy is a ripoff of E. Honda and Goonblasters 112 is the worst in the series.

Yes I know Enix made a lot of games, I've played most of them. I'm asking what Franchises they owned before SquareEnix
you'd see them in those links. i don't actually know, i never heard of them until the merger, so dragon quest is the only one that i know of before they fused with squaresoft.

The lists you kindly shared are of individual games, not franchises, but fair enough; perhaps I wasn't being specific enough.

i tried looking that up; i only got results for the games and franchises that square enix has. nothing about what enix themselves had.

Thank for trying. The original poster was saying that DQ was Enix's best franchise. The point I was trying to make was that Dragon Quest was Enix's only real franchise, outside a couple sequels.

you're welcome.
yeah, dragon quest does come off like it's their only franchise. for a while, i thought that was the only game series that they made.

they made both console and computer games. here's some wikipedia links

Oh my...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesus_(video_game)

Jesus[1] is a graphic adventure game developed and published by Enix. It was first released in 1987 on the PC-8801, FM-77AV, X1, and the MSX2 and was later ported to the Famicom in 1989 as Jesus: Kyōfu no Bio Monster[2] (Jesus: Bio Monster of Terror). A sequel, Jesus II, was released on the PC-8801, PC-9801, and X68000 in 1991.

The game's name refers to a space station called J.E.S.U.S., named after the central Christian figure Jesus. The ship is shaped like a double-edged sword a la Book of Revelation. Its inhabitants go on to fight a mysterious demonic alien from Halley's Comet.

I am intrigued. ::thinking

final fantasy 7 is bad
gameplay - boring
story - nonsense
world - forgettable
characters - unrelatable
artstyle - incoherent
sound - jarring
music - infantile
no redeeming qualities, better watch advent children
she also kinda ugly ngl, like i get that 3d models hadnt come very far, but even as a kid i saw how bad it looked. i only really liked the music, nowadays especially the distant worlds full orchestra rearrangements
