Hot takes

i got google's ai to check and see how many games there were:
"A total of 388 Nintendo 64 games were officially released, with just 85 exclusively sold in Japan."
i thought it was more around 600, but that's not a bad number of releases; considering that nintendo was making games to both consoles and handhelds at the same time.
Don't trust AI. Also this probably doesn't account for games that are the same game in JP and EN released with different names, of which there are some number among sports titles.
So while there being a surprisingly small number of games in the total catalogue does improve the percentage of good ones, it's a technicality. PlayStation had more good games in a single genre than the N64 had total and the PS1 version of shared games were almost always better thanks to the CDROM space.

It's an absolute nostalgia fueled rose tinted glasses memory that the average gamer has of the N64.

This isn't a take, it's the truth. There are nearly 400 (I think about 395?) N64 games and defenders of this console will only list the same 12 games as proof that it was great.
Not even a N64 fanboy, but when those 12 games have defined gaming since they were released till today, itsa pretty important console.

i only take the ai's word on entertainment stuff, since that's one of the few things that everyone on the internet tries to keep accurate and up to date. there were also several other websites reporting a similar number of games for the n64, the ai had a nice little sentence ready for me to copy and paste into my post.
that's not a technicality, that's just objective fact. ~400 games to 1,200 games for the n64 and psx. i've heard of more worse games for the psx than the n64. the quality control was better for the n64.

That is the good argument for it I must admit. Yeah it's only got a handful of good games but those handful are a handful of gold.

The system that homed Superman 64 had better quality control? Come now.
I think the fact that the N64 was more difficult to work on and that it had a smaller install base/demographic has a lot more to do with the amount of total games made for it.

yeah, it's been rather common for game systems to be harder and harder to work with as time passes.
also, this is my response to the superman 64 thing. 2 videos:

Yes, and...? What does this have to do with N64 having fewer games because it was harder to work on than other consoles that existed at the time such as PS1 and Saturn?

Anyways, 20/400 is just as bad a score as 20/4000 IMO. Still a library full of shit!

yeah. being harder to work with will discourage people from wanting to interact with it.
the ps1 was friendlier in terms of development, so it got more games. same for the ps2. larger storage size helped too to an extent.

I still really enjoy n64 games from time to time but it's nowhere near as good as the PS1. The only games worth playing are the 12 games that Nintendo fans talk about.

The N64 is mid and doesn't have many good games
The same games people list of it over and over again are great (even greater if you play the recompiled version of both Majora's Mask and Ocarina, and in the case of M64 play the coop version, it's just so much fun) and aside from some titles like Ganbare Goemon ,Sin and Punishment and those two Castlevanias(i hope a PC recompilation comes for those two, it would prove how good they are), and little few others that don't come into my mind right now, yeah it's not that excellent of a console.

I'm surprised that my take wasn't as hot as I expected especially on a retro game forum

I always appreciate the threads that pop up in random places on this forum asking for very specific troubleshooting advice for a lesser-known game on some obscure hardware. It's like receiving a message from outer space or something and it's always interesting to me. It's never "man, Mario Kart on SNES9X is broken" but like, "Ishikawa Suzuki's Personal Office Finance Turbo 2X has artifacting on my splenoplex gxv 5.78, anyone know how to fix"

i think ridge racer(the entire series) sucks and is vastly overrated, the 90s titles handle like a turd and dont have an understanding on why driving cars is fun in the first place
If you think Ridge Racer handles like a turd, you should try Racing Lagoon on the PS1, that game is the king of feeling like a turd.

Mosquitoes should get extinct
That's hardly a Hot Take, in fact i think that is the only think everubody in the world agrees
That would be terrible for the ecosystem as annoying as they are.

On the other hand I wish Mosquitoes to evolve so they stop hunting human blood.

Posts with 87 different sized gigantic images are annoying
I'd love to see a standardised image file size in the forum.

These tiny idiots think they can away with stealing my blood not knowing a shoes is what they get for stealing people blood , the other day one fly had the audacity to try to suck me while im looking at it like i knew it was there still tried to suck blood one slap and its done for good , but Yes as annoying as they are there is a reason they exist.

I sense irony in all those speeches about mosquitoes, you all talk about how annoying they are when there are another life form more annoying than them.

Goku's japanese voice doesnt fit him at all
