What are some of your guilty pleasures in gaming? Like a game you keep coming back to despite knowing it's bad, or thinking it really ain't that good despite maybe getting praise from other. It could also be a game you genuinely find some hidden qualities in despite all the hate it gets.

For me an example could be Prince of Persia (2008). While it certainly ain't horrible and does have redeeming values like its artstyle and dual protagonist parkour system, it is far from the best game in the series, yet it is oddly one of the games, aside from Sands of Time, that I find myself occassionally diving back into. Maybe just because I like the characters? I mean I am totally simping for Elika and it saddens me her story didn't go further. The game DID get a DS "sequel" but it only saw the Prince looking for help in another country, and essentially ending back at square one, making it more of a mini-spinoff in that timeline's universe.

Shinobido Tales of the Ninja for the PSP is the sequel to the PS2 game Shinobido Way of the Ninja which is a Tenchu clone.

Everything about this game is really a meh from the graphics to the character design. Another about this game is how the camera hates you. This game is like Tenchu Time of the Assassins but worse. But still this game fall in to so bad it’s good category that’s why I keep coming back to this.

I'm not sure, but maybe that's gonna be The Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap. Not a bad game of course, but I love coming back to this one game. Maybe because it's one of the last games with them cute and incredible looking sprites

Minish Cap is an absolute gem for sure! Booming with color, charm, and those high quality sprites you talk of.

Senran Kagura Estival Versus, GTA games (especially GTA III), and Pokémon for GBA with the emulator.

I don't really believe in the idea of guilty pleasure games, if I like a game then I'm happy to like it. Except for FIFA, because it's basically the computer game equivalent of junk food, along with newer Call of Duty games.

I think it’s one of the weakest Zeldas, so I approve of this.

I generally don’t like to think of stuff as ”guilty pleasures” but for the spirit of the thread, mine is probably Kingdom Hearts 1. It’s really corny and silly and mechanically inferior to 2 in almost every way, but it’s so magical and nostalgic that I come back to it like once every other year for a while.

Star Wars - Masters of Teras Kasi

I know its stiff and awkward, but I grew up playing it and it holds a soft spot in my memories.

The level of jank is so high the best way to beat Darth Vader is putting away the lightsaber... and doing jumping... punches. Yes, not even jump kicks, easiest way to get a ring out is moon jump into punch.

I love PS1 fighting games! I consider Fighters' Impact more of a hidden gem than a bad game, but Vs., the Western half-reboot was kinda bad but in a good way. Kensei Sacred Fist is also my guilty pleasure.

P.S. Does playing old eroge for gameplay count? I got all endings in Brave Soul, even it its super long bonus dungeon. It played so well!

On one hand I hate you for calling the classic that is KH1 a guilty pleasure... but on the other hand you are right that compared to later installments it is very stiff and - as you said - mechanically inferior. I still boot it up just to go back to the series roots, but it's true that we have come far.

Yeah it's like the one game series ever that I personally felt that I "grew out of", but I still revisit the ones I played as a kid. I'm staying on top of the story due to my brother being a huge fan of the series :)

I'm one of those who feels like it got worse when it stopped being a whimsical crossover project and started taking itself a bit too seriously for me, but to each their own!

I know right? It's so colourful and bright! Underrated gem in The Legend of Zelda series

Yup, still is pretty good though!

Wha? Thats like best prince since prince 1, the others are so forgettable the only thing I remeber about em is that prince is too snob to eat pomegranates.

Now prepare yourselves for true jank than only a mother (and I) can love
Wars and Warriors: Joan of Arc

Thanks for reminding me, now I can finally participate in the waifu thread.

Man I also have that game love playing it.
If only it had multiplayer... oh no, that reminds of another game that I will never admit in public I enjoyed but I will still play coop with anyone who offers:

Evil Zone. It's a PS1 fighting game that is ROUGH gameplay wise, but it's very charming. Every character in its cast is based on some stereotypical anime trope, and between battles there are "Next Episode Previews" and stuff of the like. Combine that with a very early English anime dub vibe, and you get a game that is just charming enough to offset its poor gameplay. I love my copy. Even downloaded bonus costumes that came on a PS1 Demo Disc I found for $1! Score!

There is for sure a level of jank to the game. But knowing how to cheese the end boss sometimes is the only way to win. (I'm looking at you MK9, and most fighting games.)

I don't mind the jank, honestly! I like the arenas, the character models, the idea of fighting with fists vs weapons. Oh! And pulling off some sweet ass moves. Luke's lightsaber throw! Vader's lighting bolt! Unlocking new outfits, new character, running the gauntlet! Those were some fun teenage memories.

I'll throw in another guilty pleasure and will take all the hate for it. Resident Evil 5.

It's a comfort game for me. It reminds me of a summer in my 20s when my friend and I cheesed the brown egg cheat. It's a b-movie to just chill with a friend with and have fun. Why, just last year I had a herniated disc in my back, was layed up on the couch, depressed. My friend suggested Steam Link and RE5 and for a few hours, everything felt okay. ?

Polska Hidden Objects games and Time Management games.

Honestly allot of the zelda games are pretty good I yet played one that was outright bad, No I don´t count the CDI games they are not offcial games.

My favorites has to be orcale of ages and seaons. Man I wish Nintendo did like a collection and released the third game they planned.
Now that I think about it, they did said that they're still trying new things with top down Zelda games. And who knows? Maybe for the Switch 2?

That's a good one! People don't give games like these enough credit, due to them having less depth, but they can still be fun and are a part of the "vibe games" sub-culture.

Rockman 5 Famicom cover

I wouldn't call Mega Man 5 my guilty pleasure, because that would imply that I enjoy it. Nonetheless, it's the easiest NES Mega Man out there, making it perfect for when I want my Mega Man fix without committing to anything.
