Wasn't sure how to title this but I just took a peak over on SegaXtreme forums and saw there has been new updates on the translation of Grandia Digital Museum for the Saturn.

The first is what a few people might consider good news. (I'm not one of them) A new translation project was announced and posted using AI to translate the game. So for those who want a quick and dirty translation with questionable quality (seeing comments mention the quality is on slop level) they can finally play the game.

Now the second piece of news that is definitely bad news. TrekkiesUnite118 hasn't taken the news well especially with how much time and effort he has put into trying to get the game properly translated. I was really looking forward to his work but he may be throwing in the towel now that this AI project popped up out of no where.

I'm hoping Trekkies doesn't give up and am definitely fine with waiting a few more years for his to bear fruit over the AI translation. But I guess the AI version will be available for those who don't want to wait.

See, I don't have a problem with machine translation to start. I think that doing that and not cleaning it up is lazy and rough, but there are dozens of games that I wish I could just machine translate and tidy up the dialog after, so I am cautiously optimisitic about the new trend.

Apparently, Trekkies has basically wrapped up the romhacking and just needs a translator.

I can forgive the patch author for not realizing that, but given that Trekkies/team did the original patch, I would think most people want the Digital Museum patch to come from them.

Amazing news and really welcome to hear that someone took on the work of making a patch for this game.

The amount of tasks and effort involved in making this patch must have been tremendous, according to all the features and tasks discussed by the patch maker.

This includes the injection of live English subtitles to the in game movies, text re-injection, dynamically expanding text boxes, and the headless validation.

Outstanding technical achievements by the coder.

And, since there was no patch available before, this patch can now form the base for any human translation, should any Japanese translator actually wish to provide a script.

Thanks very much to the coder for bringing us this translation. Its quite the gift and I really appreciate it.

This post feels AI generated, but it's probably just me.

I agree, i feel that previous post was VERY AI. no anti ai sentiment at all in it and also no mention of the fact there is somebody doing the work "Trekkie". I just heard of this and if i was an AI trying to get people on board with the AI slop translation of the Grandia museum game, i would say exactly what that previous AI post said.
