Battle Axe - I got it on sale. The game only has 4 stages, and there is no way I would ever pay $29.99 for it. I like short games, but Bit Map Beru are charging way too much on a regular sale. Get this game for $5.99 (on PSN) or less, like I did. I am playing the PS5 version that comes with all of the quality of life updates and the ability to strafe while firing. The update get go to last gen consoles and Steam as well. It's a fun arcade style Gauntlet game. I chose the hot purple dark elf.

I've been going through Rushing Beat Shura. This is usually called the best game in the original trilogy on super nintendo, and one of the better console exclusive brawlers. I definitely been enjoying it more now. That I get a handle the combat. But I still don't like one of the characters and how they play. It's kind of redundant to have two mighty glaciers. When one plays worse than the other, and the better glacier has a run and dash attack, while the other doesn't any dash mechanics at all. With a way worse jump.

I will praise this game for having multiple paths, and you can alter storylines based on how many people you saved or not, for specific characters. The bosses are still a mixed bag and are not that fun to fight or you're better off just spamming your special attack.Because you'll almost always outlast them. A lot of them are really overpowered or are just pallet swaps of the enemies. You are already fighting and giving some minor alterations or modified dodge and attack patterns. I know that can be a staple in most brawlers, but it's really obvious here. It just makes me wish I would be fighting the bosses in the second game again. There were fewer of them, but they were much more unique, and have easier attack patterns where you're not just spamming your special all the time.

I've already beaten the game before and just did so recently, but I'm doing another play through taking the paths I didn't take before. Shura I do find better than the whole Final Fight trilogy on super nintendo, RB1, and Sonic Blast Man. I still like rushing beat ran a bit more, but sure has much more polished combat and some hidden mechanics. It's still suffers a problem of most super nintendo brawlers that limit the enemy count 3. You a think by being this late in the console's life cycle that this issue will be fixed, but only very few were able to make it past this limit on the system.

I think Rushing Beat X possibly has me in hostage mode. I keep finding reasons to go back and play thinking I am done. The combat keeps drawing me back, despite its flaws. Partially (the first 5-8 minutes) looking at 1CC run only inspired me to do better and try what the other person did. I managed to do a near 1CC Run with Kahlua. Originally, I thought she was the worse character to play as, but turns out, Kahlua is one of better combo focused characters to play and beat the game. There is so much pause combo cancelling, and dash cancelling you can do, but the game barely ever tells you.

I did the entire run on Hard, and only died once at the final boss. He ain't even hard, it just the boss before him, Juliana, can be a bitch to fight. I managed to beat my old high score again, and totaled to 207, 881. I am putting this down, as I've really got to get back to other games now.

Labyrinth of Refrain: Coven of Dusk cause i need to work on my dungeon crawly backlog and just choose one at random

Tokyo xtreme racer ps5 completely forgot it got released managed to bag it there so ive something to play through on the easter break. My clubbing days are behind me or easter used to be one of my biggest weekenders. Good game makes me wanna play some of the older titles that came out on dreamcast or ps2.

I’ve been playing dead space ps3, mewgenics, and Tboi repentance +

I have done it, I finished Baldur's Gate (the game).

The game was really starting to run long. I dipped into the Tales of Sword Coast expansion in chapter 7 and went to The Tower. Finished the first basement floor and decided that was enough, and rushed to the Undercity. Bested my dude Koveras with some archery cheese and got sucked into Siege of Dragonspear. No thank you, I have had enough.

Don't get me wrong, there's something about this absolutely busted 2nd Edition DnD ruleset that I really kinda dig. Like, it's those arbitrary attribute bonuses -- they make almost zero sense, but it's kinda fun to cheese them.

For instance, you have absolutely no business playing a fighter (or really, any melee combat class) unless you have at least an 18 in strength. Check this out:
StrengthTHAC0DMG
1500
160+1
170+1
18-1+2
18/50-1+3
18/75-2+3
18/90-2+4
18/99-2+5
18/100-3+6
19-3+7
20-3+8
DnD 2nd considers 18 strength to be pretty good. If you are of a warrior class, meaning you are a class that trains in the martial sphere (Fighters, Rangers, Paladins, Barbarians), having 18 strength is also "exceptional." Exceptional strength means that you roll a D100 at character generation. That's bonus strength and, between two characters, could mean the difference of -2 to hit (you want more minuses) and +3 damage (you want more plusses) simply on the basis of a roll you did during character creation.

THAC0 stands for "to hit armor class 0". A fully-equipped medieval knight, with shield, would have an armor class of 0. At level 1, most classes have a base THAC0 of 20, meaning that a totally average anyone swinging any given weapon would need to roll a natural 20 (basically, a 5% chance) to get through the armor of a knight. If a 1st Level fighter with exceptionally-exceptional strength (18/100) swung a club at a knight, he would have a -3 bonus to his THAC0 -- 20 - 3 = 17. So, he'd have a 20% chance to get through (hitting on 4 rolls of 20 possibilities: 17, 18, 19, 20). That fighter would do 1D6 + 6 damage (6-12). That's enough to kill a perfectly average 1st-level knight with one hit without question.

Of course, practically speaking, perfectly average people don't become knights.

Also, DnD 2nd didn't have point buy as a standard ability score generation method. You rolled 3D6 or had a number of alternate methods (like 4D6 drop-lowest). Ability scores were expected to land somewhere between 9 and 12, which means they basically got zero bonuses. If you got a score 15 or higher, those characters were special, to be cherished.

In Baldur's Gate you can reroll dice all day long. In fact, because certain classes have minimum scores and because you selected your class before your ability scores, the generator always gave you your minimums so that you would always qualify for your class. It was pretty common that you'd roll 80+ (96's weren't all that rare either) total scores (max 108), and you can arbitrarily move points around.

The point of the matter is that it's actually pretty easy to get really big numbers because they cluster around scores of 18 and 19. The tables for Constitution and Dexterity have similar breakpoints. Once you factor in racial bonuses, it becomes pretty easy to tip over from an 18 to a 19, and then things get a little wild from there.

Let's say that you want optimize for THAC0 at an early level. Roll an elf fighter.

Elf
+1 Dexterity
-1 Constitution
+1 to attack rolls with all bows (except crossbows), short swords, and long swords.

Let's say that you've got a long sword on your 18/00 bulkmaxxing elf. Your effective THAC0 is 20 - 3 - 1 = 16. You're killing perfectly average knights (PAK's) 25% of the time. You're also killing perfectly average thieves (PAR's with leather armor and a dagger, no shield = AC 8) on an 8 -- a 65% hit. Not bad at first level.

If your gigaflexxing elf also dancemaxxes and rolls 19 dex, then you're popping zits at range with the same odds.

My Archer Kit ultralad Elf had a THAC0 of 3 at level 6.
15 Base THAC0 from Class
-2 from Archer Feature
-3 from Proficiency
-3 from 20 DEX
-1 from Racial Bonus
-3 from Equipment bonuses (+2 bow, +1 THAC0 gauntlets)

It got lower. Now, sure, there are a hellova lot more immune-to-normal-missile enemies in the game than I'd like, but that's what +2 Arrows of Fire (which grow on Kobold Commandos) are for.

Meanwhile, Minsc was at a THAC0 of 12 with his two-handed sword.

You get what I'm trying to say? I kinda wanna do something with this.

Just finished X-Men Origins: Wolverine Uncaged Edition on PS3 (via RPCS3)

After suffering through Wolverine's Revenge many years ago, this God of War style hack n slasher was massive improvement. Could've done without the awkward platforming and traversal bits (they weren't nearly as refined as those found in GoW), and some of the elite enemies felt more tedious than challenging, but making such a bloody and visceral spectacle was exactly what a Wolverine game should be!

Gonna fly SPAZ for a bit.

Isn't the first time I played this -- been about a decade. But, I did listen to the developers talk about it and it got me kinda interested.

It's a low-rent sort of game; doesn't require much to get started on playing it. Tiny install, short prologue, not a lot of dialogue to break the flow. Encounters are a little routine; game flow is something like:
  1. Warp into system.
  2. Do some thing (shoot a thing).
  3. Once thing has been done for some time, spawn a response fleet.
  4. Pickup glowing items.
  5. Redeem glowing items for incremental upgrades to thing performance.
  6. Repeat.
But, it does do that well enough. Controls are a little wobbly tho. It's a ship-always-tries-to-face-the-cursor sort of game, and thrusting is relative to ship orientation. You spend most of your time looking at enemy ships (which is where the cursor goes), so you often forget what orientation your ship is in. Makes left and right unreliable concepts. I feel like the Starcom games do this better, just can't remember how exactly. It's a feel thing.

It'll be a liminal game. Don't feel too terribly hooked, but I might fight it out. We'll see.

I remember getting into Skullgirls way back in high school and playing on the 360 and ps3. I hadn't ever been crazy about fighting games before, but Skullgirls was my gateway drug. A friend of mine got me into it and I remember writing full combo notes in a little notebook and watching tournament vods in computer class lol. It's a very special game that I think I might get back into as well. But yeah there's lots to love about it from the lore to the gameplay, sound design, music, art design, and passionate community surrounding it. It's a truly lovely game from bottom to top. Enjoy it!

Thanks! Good to know a OG fan, I got into it like in 2022 when I finally got my own laptop to play it.
Back then when the game launched? I Only haved a Xbox 360 with a bad power cable, a Wii with no games and a Wii U with Mario Maker and Mario Kart 8, I survived with that for like 5 years.

If you are up to play some matches one day (In case you have the game on steam), just call me! Im getting pretty interested on fighting games lately. Avatar Legends and Marvel Tokon have me really hyped...

I'm playing the 6 Mega Man NES games in order, now going into the Dr. Cossack fortress in Mega Man IV

Been playing The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy for almost 2 months. I heard it was lengthy game, but I wasn't expecting over 100 hours. When I'm not trying to finish that, I've been trying the new Paranormasight game and Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness on the Switch 2.

currently playing the Dreamcast version of Shenmue and just reach the CD 2. also going to try Super Mario 64 once im done with shenmue, but idk if I should just go with the 64 emulator or go with the so called "pc port"

I replayed Shenmue 1 last year. After knocking on about 15 doors and buying about 40 gumball machine toys I said out loud: "Did I really used to play this shit all day back when I was a kid?" Lol

Perhaps! I live in New Zealand so the connections aren’t always the greatest lol. If you haven’t already, I’d recommend checking out Fightcade so you can play lots of old fighters online with people or by yourself. It’s great. Guilty Gear Strive is also getting a new update like tomorrow that has lots of fixes and adjustments that imo will push the game in a more positive direction. Something that SHOULD have happened with Tekken 8 but GG Strive seems to be taking the good patch this time around.

All joking aside, I've been checking it out! I want to try it out so I can play various games that are hard to play online with friends more smoothly.

Clearing out some of my backlog and one of the games happens to be Super Mario 3. I've only played a few levels before never actually sat down and went from world to world. I'm playing the "remake" of it on GBA with the E reader levels. Got to world 3 today.

I'm.....not having a super fun time with this actually lmao. The first Mario game i ever played was super mario advanced for GBA which was a "remake" of Mario 2 USA. I have fond memories with that game but its definitely been almost 20 years since I last played that game. Genuinely have no idea how I would feel about it now.

As to why I'm not having a fun time with it, not to be "that guy" but, I grew up playing SNES, PS1, and OG xbox games, it wasnt until later in life when i started to go back to NES games. While i do LOVE retro games i've found that there IS a cutoff for me and that cutoff is typically the NES. Theres certainly some games for NES I like however a majority of the games ive went back to, I haven't vibed with. This is a portable version of the all stars remake of a game that originally released in 1988......and it feels like this was made in 1988. I just think we've gotten so much better at game design since then. I know this sentiment isnt a hot take however the game im using to fit this sentiment is not one people think of.

Mario just feels so slippery in this game to me. I feel like the game is fighting against my engagement with it. Levels designed to be quickly moved through feel like im being punished for trying to move quickly, while also not being incentivized to take things slowly.

Currently I’m playing the first Lufia on the SNES. I’m only a hour in so I’m not sure what I fully think of it.

I’m also tapping away at Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and South Park: Stick of Truth.

Took me two tries, but I cleared Boss Rush Mode with Kahlua in Rushing Beat X. Clear it is 24 minutes and 19 seconds. I don't think I am going to get a faster time than this with the other characters. What they do throw at you is some bullshit at the end, but if you know how space the bosses out properly and juggle them, it's not too bad. They at least give you healing items to endure. This game clearly needs a survival mode and versus mode for the hell of it, because I am not gonna do that mode again for long time, aside from maybe Kazan and Wendy.

I unlocked the loaded trophy for RBX. I got the 10,000 fully collected. Next is the character epilogues. I should have only two character left to unlock that trophy. I will just use level select and make it quick.

Okay, I completed All Characters Epilogue Endings in Rushing Beat X. The complete the game as Juliet Trophy can only be done in free mode, but I will save her for another time.

I did a run of Abadox last night.
