So, I posted about this on my profile, but no-one has replied. So I'm making a thread to ask the question that since the Gamecube is regarded as the most high quality and functioning of the sixth generation of consoles, should I go for that or the Wii, which is basically a fancier Gamecube with motion controls?

It depends. Typically, I recommend the Wii because you get both Gamecube and Wii, Wii Shop digital games, a bunch of emulators, and it's insanely easy to soft mod.

That said, Gamecube does have slightly better image quality.

I believe you answered your own question. The Wii is the better form, can run both gens and virtual console games if you do so wish. Plus having 480p natively is nice.
Does the Wii also have the same timeless hardware?

GameCube but I'm being bias as I have only played my kids Wii maybe a dozen times and I hate the controller

you can fix some of the image issues on a wii by loading your games through usb loader gx and turning the deflicker filter off! and once you have that solved, it's much nicer to use as an all-in-one platform as compared to gamecube, although my flippydrive just came in so I'm about to be back to the lunchbox after leaving it on the shelf like six years ago ::good

Okay, then that settles it. Wii it is!
If it makes you feel better i still use the same wii remote that came with it. Only thing i replace was the safety strap, back when Nintendo offered replacements for free

Yeah deffo Wii, Gamecube controllers and memoy cards are also compatible plus combine the Twilight Hack to mod the system... La creme' da la fromage.

With the Wii you get the best of both worlds as everyone's already said. But if we're strictly comparing their libraries, I think the Gamecube wins.

A Wii is the better option. The only advantages I can think of the GameCube has are the Game Boy Player (it's not compatible with the Wii) and it being able to output digital video without mods, though that only applies to the DOL-001 model and you will need an adapter to output HDMI or something. The Wii has HDMI adapters as well, but they are rubbish that convert its analog component signal badly into digital video.

You could also buy a Wii U, though. It has an HDMI output, and can play Wii games natively with GameCube games available via Nintendont. You can fix the botched way Wii games are scaled by default on Wii U with this homebrew https://github.com/GaryOderNichts/evwii

Looks like this question was answered rather quickly haha.
After going through hoops of video comparisions & advantages for both systems myself, the Wii is just 99% better. And much much cheaper too across the board.
The only thing I use my Gamecube for is playing physcial Gameboy/Advance games... which I haven't done in years.

So unless you have a real library of GBA games, Wii is just better! (But even then, there's probably better GBA options nowadays with all these HDMI/4k mods & consoles.)

I'm actually conflicted on this choice. On one hand, The Wii lets you play both native and gamecube games. It also allowed you to download older titles, check the weather and news, and play games online with your friends and family. On the other hand, you can't connect the Gameboy Player to the wii...

In regards to image quality, there are methods and settings that can be applied to sharpen the image on a jailbroken Wii. Plenty of vids on YouTube on that improvement.

Anyway get the (earlier) Wii.

I sure hope you ordered the right wii. Some versions do not have gamecube functionality at all.

I'd say the Wii for the functionalities, but the Gamecube for the soul...
The Gamecube if you care about the startup and the console menu's eerie ambiance, the Wii for the typical mid to late 2000's Fruitiger Aero cozy aesthetics...
The Wii library is varied and experimental, but not as solid as the Gamecube's imho...
Though, nostalgia aside, the Wii's retrocompatibility with Gamecube games and accessories is a considerable argument in its favor.

The wii for a number of reasons that people around here has already discussed, you get, more available hardware, full compatiblity with both systems, 480p display with a cheap and easy to find cable, the possibility to hack your wii and run your librarly on external hard drives instead of discs, the option to run homebrew and emulators, and much much more
